I'm kind of disappointed honestly. I expected it, but still. Wow air's return fares to KEF are starting at INR 26K inclusive of only a personal item (not even your usual 7kg carry-on). The minimum increase is to INR 41K, inclusive of a personal item, a carry-on and a checked bag. IMO, not that much more competitive than the one-stop options like Finnair or Lufthansa, which give you included meals and probably have better service, especially when you consider that if you're not flying from DEL, you'll have to spend another 6K minimum to fly there, while Lufthansa/BA/AF offer one-stops from other metros too.

And when it comes to TATL connections, it's even worse. Check the Wow website for yourself. Personal item-only fares to eastern US/Canada start at 49K. If you want checked bags and hand baggage (still no meal), it's 65K minimum. This feels like a joke. Lufthansa, BA, AF have bigger operations in India, they give free meals, checked and cabin baggage for almost the same price that WOW is charging for personal items only, and seeing what people are saying about KEF, these airlines have better connecting airports.

I don't know if WOW will be able to make India work unless it actually charges lower fares.

Yeah well this is what I thought, if their main target is the Indian community in US who want cheap flights to India, they really need to lower their prices and they really need to include baggage.

If a working class person is coming back home after 1 year to see his family, he will bring stuff, 20KG is $56 per leg per flight, so that would be $112 Extra just for one way for just 20KG

As it is a low cost I understand they charge for the check in baggage, but it is absurd they are charging for a carry on baggage too.

Most Indians carry unnecessary stuff because airlines are giving two free checked bags. There is no need to export rice, lentils and tamarind to the USA. Similarly now with most electronics, household, personal items easily available in India, there is no need to export from the USA.

You never know, Indian IT majors may switch their worker bees to WOW basic, that would be major loss to ME3.

Did a dummy booking DTW-KEF-DEL for March 2019, Friday dep, Sunday return. WOW 22 hrs $541-$1600, $741 with two bags, seat selection, priority boarding. Kayak cheapest $872 on DL/KLM 27 hrs

For those on FF programs it is a difficult choice, for those without any FF status, WOW may be an option.

If you're Indian, you would know that carrying gifts for family is a huge part of Indian culture. WOW charging such huge amounts for cabin and checked baggage will just deter those who do bring gifts. And if not checked baggage, at least keep cabin baggage free. How can a long haul traveller travel with just one tiny bag? Also, two bags, seat selection and priority boarding seems to only be available on WOW premium, so I don't know how you got just a $741 fare, unless that's one way.

Let me rephrase it for you.

Forcing limited mobility elderly parents bring grocers from India, on cheapest connecting fare thru CDG(knowing very well AF/France will treat them badly particularly during IRROPS) is the Indian culture.

Actual gifts could be just jewellery or designer ethnic clothes, which are in the personal item or cabin baggage anyway.

Jet Airways is supposedly starting flights to MAN and SYD from BOM, Khalnayak would be happy to hear this news.

If they actually start flights to SYD at a good price, then well I am in.

If this is true, then awesome! But, do they even have slots and free aircraft to so do, or will they be taking off the 777/A330 from some routes.

Even I am curious to know that which route they will cut off or which route they will make the frequency less, again all of this is just a rumour, supposedly they will use the A330 for MAN.

How is the BLR - AMS route doing? I have a feeling they might cut that off or lesser the frequency.

Does DEL-AMS have too much capacity? Because i feel like a daily 747 and 777 is overkill, but maybe 9W uses the 777 for the YYZ connection. They could take a 777 off the BOM/DEL-HKG route, or maybe the third daily BOM-LHR route. They'll definitely need a 777 for SYD, A330 doesn't have the range.

A330s are easy to get for 9W, I would think. They could take one off from it domestic routes, or replace one of their Gulf A330 routes (like BOM-DOH/DMM) and replace those with two 737 flights.

It is a rumor and will be....
First of all their 77Ws and a333s are fully occupied on various routes. Three a332s have been leased so even if those ones are taken back I highly doubt the range of that variant.
And yes BLR AMS is just doing fine . It's frequency was increased last year only after a few months from launch so a decrease in frequency is unlikely.
I would've been extremely happy to see 9W expanding but there must be a logic behind everything. One can say that 9W can stop deploying wide bodies in BOM SIN and use it for BOM SYD instead. But will 9W have their first flight to Australia with a ten year old product? I don't think so.
Currently they are working on a plan to upgrade their long haul J to something modern and world class as hinted by the CEO. So any new long haul by 9W before product up gradation is unlikely. They have a whole lot of product refreshment plans and it will take time for them to implement all of them. Maybe 2 years. This is being done to compete against vistara etc .
9W must be declared as India's national airline. They will indirectly fulfill JRD's vision!!

DEL CDG has less capacity so the capacity is more towards AMS. Flights to LHR , HKG ,DMM etc are more lucrative than SYD. So doesn't make sense for 9W to shift capacity from the lucrative ones.
It is better to utilize 737s for domestic . The mistake Indian players have been doing are deploying NBs in all short haul int'l routes. So all those NBs which could do more domestic runs were doing flights to gulf etc which do not require more frequency but require capacity. The lack of capacity in domestic is one of the reasons for the formation of newer airlines like vistara .

Moreover, a rule that has a provision for exemptions within itself is not a blanket rule. Vide Section 8.1 (b)

I don't know about AMS, but 777 for SYD will be too big and well A330 doesn't have the range. Taking the deliveries of the B787 would have made more sense.

I definitely could see the A332 oprating BOM-SYD-BOM nonstop. A332 flies routes like FCO-EZE which is nearly 900km longer than BOM-SYD. However, BOM does have short runways, so perhaps that can have an impact on the A332's ability to take off for this route.

AFAIK 9W operates A332/3 on BOM-Middle East sometimes. They could use a couple of these planes for starting MAN and SYD.

Also I am surprised they chose SYD over PVG.

Looks like the route was stopped around 2012. But QF did experiment with BOM i.e. they had tried out SYD-DRW (Tech stop)-BOM, BNE-SIN-BOM, SYD-SIN-BOM and SYD-BOM between the A332 and A333s.

Nikos Kardassis to join 9W once again
http://www.business-standard.com/articl ... 055_1.html

The airline is exploring service between Mumbai-Sydney and Mumbai-Manchester – both routes without a non-stop flight at present.

The first article to publish the fact we were discussing. Well they are still exploring and haven't declared when they will start the routes. There were earlier rumours about them exploring non stops to NY but nothing has happened till now. I think all these plans have been kept for future i.e after they reconfigure their 777s and get back their leased a330s. I can see a good int'l expansion by them after 2019 . They are slowly learning the potential of their fleet though too late.

They have to refurbish their interiors quickly (or) speed up 789 deliveries (or) lease surplus capacity from Etihad. Status quo is not going to work.

They are doing it . 20 more months and 10 77Ws will be refurbished . The first few might be done by the end of the year itself. The 737 MAX product will also let pax specially FFs regain confidence in this airline.
All I wanted to say is 9W will go for more long hauls in future but not "imminently" as predicted by some people here .

Jet Airways has confirmed the start of BOM MAN BOM flights, with four frequencies a week launching on November 5 offering 254 seats on a two-class Airbus A330-200. Flights will depart BOM at 02.30, arriving at 07.55 and depart MAN at 09.35, arriving at 00.40.

Agreed. I wish EY would lease aircraft to Jet. Talk about a turnaround in luck. Anyway, at least Jet is seeing that they can't sit idle as ULCCs come into the market. With MAN and SYD (if it launches) all they are really missing is a 737 to NBO and perhaps (its a big perhaps) JNB & PVG form BOM. I also think a HYD-AMS should be launched. That basically rounds out the major Indian source cities to the west (still don't think AMD and ATQ are ready with enough J). I hope they install lie flat J in some of their 737MAX. Would at least make the J experience on say BOM-NBO and BLR-HKG bearable. Looks like the GOI holding back extra seats to ME3 is finally paying off. Both Jet and AI have launched a good chunk of flights, new carriers have started routes from BOM/DEL and finally let's see if Indigo and Spice make something happen. What ever you might think about the ME3, at least you can't say (finally) that Indian carriers aren't doing anything. Oh Kudos to Tamil Nadu for lowering jet fuel tax - here's hoping Jet can make MAA-CDG daily.

Man that was the most ridiculous report I've ever seen. Features like lie flat beds, PTVs are purposely disabled in domestic flights by 9W. They provide IFE streaming in your mobile. Fly int'l in that same a332 and every feature will work well and fine.
Worst thing no one corrected this fact except me in the comments to let that foreigner know the right thing. Still can't understand why there is a common hatred for 9W. I hope 9W's upcoming product gives a tight reply to all those haters.

I flew AMS-BLR in Feb, 9W A330 interiors are in bad shape. I don't think there is any hate, this guy took social media (mostly PR peeps I guess) recommendation and booked 9W. Also CC shouldn't have threatened him about consequences for filming, she could have asked politely, like many do.

Hence my suggestion, fix cabins, PR is not going help.

Agreed. They need refurbishment .....will be done.

The guy was a foreigner ...doesn't know what happens in India. Even you don't know because you don't live here. I didn't want to bring this topic but have to so sorry.
In India ( domestic flights precisely ) FAs suffer from harassment yes HARASSMENT day in and day out. There are innumerable people who stalk, click videos ,post them under obscene titles etc. Each such thing takes a troll on her mental peace and provokes her to shift away from her normal way of communicating with a passenger. Take this word from a person whose spouse is an FA in the same airline , barring few no Indian FA wants to be rude to any traveler . Yes what that FA did was not completely correct but at that time she didn't know whether that man was innocent or one of those creeps .
Trust me ,I know a little bit of what happens behind the scenes. A passenger(innocent or not) tries to shoot a video comprising of an FA and then the FA asks him to stop . But that's not the end. This incident revolves in her mind till the end of the trip and only she knows how it feels to get back home after a trip with watery eyes.
I bear no grudges with that guy who made the trip report. I am frustrated looking at the comments by the people who described FAs in the worst way as possible.
9W must be declared as India's national airline. They will indirectly fulfill JRD's vision!!

= What nonsense are you talking about? I am a foreigner and used to write plenty of reports on India. I don't have time so don't write anymore. Anyways, the FA was out of lime and Jet Airways has a history of these divas. Of all airlines in India I have flown, 9W either has some good crew, or some poor ones. Not poor ones you find in say AF, but poor ones from Asian standards.

Naresh Goyal has also said:

-BOM-MAN will go daily on 26th March 2019.

-MAN-DEL could be launched as the current bilateral allows one more daily flight on DEL-LHR but once that’s launched, then additional capacity will be added to Manchester.

-Also open to launching ATQ-MAN if demand warrants. Likely to be indirect competition for Air India’s ATQ-BHX route.

All in all, exciting times for Manchester.

Their 77Ws in Y feel too crowded in the 3-4-3 config. Though its a trend these days..
This is where AI's 77Ws and UA's long haul 772ERs have an edge (though they have poor IFE systems as compared to 9W).

Also, the cabin needs a refreshed look.
Example: When you enter say a VS 789 v/s a 9W 77W you do feel the difference!

They have to refurbish their interiors quickly (or) speed up 789 deliveries (or) lease surplus capacity from Etihad. Status quo is not going to work.

Never mind. My only request - please don't keep on abusing an FA if she is "not so polite" . We never know what she might have been going through. I can write to you pages about the dark sides of being an FA in India. But I fear it might be out of the topic and finally you'll find it nonsense . As I've earlier said the people's comments to the video posted actually irked me.

UDAN has added 25 additional airports to the list of operational ones in India

Good to see the connectivity scheme gaining traction despite the usual scepticism from certain quarters.
Air India is a national embarrassment

So as Bombay Airport did not have any slots, what route did 9W cut off or what route they reduce the frequencies in order to start flights to MAN?

Must have adjusted some of their mid night red eye flights. Anyways those ones were quite low yielding (just check the fares some day). They were kept just to ensure that their 737s are flying (earning money even if just peanuts) and not sitting idle on BOM tarmac. 9W is able to well utilize the BOM slots unlike any other airline.

The A330 which they are going to use, where is it being used now? or it is the one which they gave on lease? I guess to Turkish Airlines?

Yes it is the one which is currently leased to ...don't know exactly . I had previously heard Air Serbia. However wiki says Turkish Airlines.
