AV expands in Argentina: new LIM-MDZ started today

Mon Apr 02, 2018 4:42 pm

This morning at 4AM N743AV landed at MDZ as AV927 from its hub in LIM; new daily service and the first international service with Avianca in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires.

With the new Argentina Colombia bilateral just signed last month, the airline is expected to announce BOG-COR services in the coming months, as well as additional EZE flights (sorely missing now that LATAM stopped flying between EZE and BOG).This is in addition to the expansion of AV Argentina domestically as well as GRU.

LIM and MDZ are now joined with 12 weekly flights, 7 on AV and 5 on LA.

So I'm still wandering that when AV expands in Argentina could see their A320's to be based in Argentina in near the future.

Actually, two ex AV Brazil A320s will be joining the fleet (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1387007). AV needs those to start flying to GRU, one of the most competitive routes out of Buenos Aires. Avianca's Brazilian arm can't fly the trunk GRU-EZE route as the Brazil side is maxed out of frequencies on the SAO-BUE city pair (all airports on both ends).

I'm glad to see LIM-MDZ getting launched! Certainly the LIM hub needs some expansion as it has been a bit stagnant the past couple of years. Remember this route was almost launched by TACA years ago but Cristina's government prevented it at the last minute.
