Yes but this is about LAX, AA, and a route never flown by a US carrier before. Whether LAX-PPT has had a nonstop on a US carrier before is the question.

Yes, that is the question. I don't know the answer. I simply tossed my guess into the ring with PPT. If a US carrier has, indeed, flown LAX - PPT before, then my guess isn't valid.

It was a charter, but HA used to fly LAX-PPT from 1999-2001 for Renaissance Cruises, who has been flying HNL-PPT since the 1980s. They had 2 specially configured DC-10-30s with 84 business and 172 coach seats. Occasionally, these 2 aircraft would be used as subs on LAX-OGG.

Very unlikely at this stage considering QF is using the 3rd BNE based 789 on x3 extra BNE-LAX terminators on top of the daily BNE-LAX-JFK.

AA wont fly to TLV from anywhere.

EZE is a terrible idea. Garbage yields from the West Coast and it would cannibalize the DFW flight since it gets a lot of its feed from California.

One very well-known Argentinean aviation blogger posted last Wednesday 21MAR, that soon two new long-haul routes were to be announced from EZE.
The clues given were, Boeing aircraft (later specified Boeing 787-9), never flown before, one to start in July winter holidays (Southern hemisphere) and very controversial routes.

As you may see on the link, he posted yesterday that today (27MAR) the announcement would be made.

It seems as if these two would go together.

I guess there is the possibility that somewhere in AA route planning they are trying to make DFW-EZE unprofitable...

Since LAX is AA's Asia gateway Taipei looks promising. China Airlines moved one of two daily flights to Ontario and it has not been flown by a US airline since Northwest did with a 744 in the 1990's briefly. Seoul would be hard to believe since the two Korean airlines have lots of A380's on the route. Osaka would be by second guess since JAL flies only a 787 and no other airline flies it.

I would be so entirely surprised about that. Brazil is picking up but I do not believe it is an major way. Then you have the likes of Avianca, Gol and Azul flooding the US market - especially Florida, with a lot of capacity. I see the US-Brazil market headed for disaster with many of the routes announced this year cut in 2019, and no carrier in the market making money for 2-3 years until the impact of Free-skies is absorbed.

There are still many possibilities in Asia: based on the "first US carrier" clue, it can be Seoul, Taipei, Manila or even Osaka (although I doubt it would be KIX).

I wouldn't be surprised to see LAX-EZE announced. That's really the last big hole in LAX-South America, and if any airline were able to make it work I think it would be AA. Perhaps winter seasonal only and less-than-daily, with the aircraft being reallocated to TATL flying in the summer?

Many of the above guesses have had US carrier LAX nonstop service previously.

Bueno Aires - flown briefly by UA 747SP.
Tahiti - flown by several over decades including Pan Am and later CO using DC-10s
Santiago - flown by Pan Am 747
Taipei - flown by Northwest on 744.
Osaka - Both Northwest and United
Seoul - Northwest and further back Braniff

Everyone here is focusing on Asia and South America, but what about Europe? There must be plenty of European destinations that were never served by an American airline from Los Angeles. It could just be Berlin Tegel. So far there aren't any flights between Los Angeles and Berlin, so there's a hole to be filled. Otherwise Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are also possibilities.

AA isn't going to fly something from Europe that they don't already fly from an east coast hub. KEF is a special exception as that flight is specifically to go after WW and FI.

if TXL can't maintain JFK service from LH its not going to get LAX service any time soon. WAW would be from PHL first, and I doubt PRG and BUD are getting doubled up just yet, and they would be from ORD or CLT long before LAX. AA doesn't even service LAX-CDG or LAX-MAD, two far stronger cities.

AC has been successful from YVR due to low ME3 competition and ability to get transfer pax from cities like SEA and LAX. Also highly doubt AA would start LAX-DEL( ULH with low yields) before ORD-DEL or JFK-DEl, which have far larger O&D numbers.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1389091&p=20256141&hilit=american+american+airlines+hub#p20256141

Also the thread above stated that AA is not planning to Expand service to markets that don’t touch a hub or New hubs.

I mean, AA is part of the TATL JV and there's IB service to MAD. Though I suppose it could go year round (I would use that a lot then). I think it's from a lack of aircraft on the IB side more than anything.

Actually AA is doing just the opposite. They are decreasing service to Brazil. The daytime MIA-GRU flight ends in August while they are pulling out of CNF completely. Also, JFK-GIG is going seasonal and DFW-GIG will not be operating seasonally anymore.

Which is very surprising but also is going to be a major talking point in their case to get the LATAM JBA approved.

I suspect LATAM will announce MIA-CNF shortly.

Further, Avianca Brazil is adding a 2nd daily MIA-GRU in the winter.

That's quite a bit of expansion in their Lat. Am. network.

To start, the OP of this thread gets his/her wish, now that AA started MIA-GEO
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1385637

LAX-EZE is long overdue. It's crazy that there are absolutely zero connection from West Coast to Buenos Aires (with the furthest west being DFW).

Other than that, a little bit surprised by COR myself, but I guess no more PTY connection required now. PEI is filling in a missing dot in Colombia, especially since the only US flight from PEI right now is AV's PEI-CTG-JFK.

Remember AA has to fund some of the new Long Haul flying, and that will come at the expense of existing South America flying. LAX-GRU will reduce to 4x a week. MIA-GRU day flight drops.

There are two sides to every coin. AA does not like to talk about the dark side of the coin, just the shiny front side.

one good sized Mexican city that lacks consistent service to the US is CUL. I wonder why any of the US3, especially AA, don't fly there.

I think Volaris might be only offering CUL-PHX/LAX a couple times a week.
