LH new livery to be ‘revised’ after only three weeks

Wed Feb 28, 2018 9:39 am

Too dark in adverse light apparently.

https://www.businesstraveller.com/busin ... ree-weeks/

Not a great ad for their branding research group.

Well, next to the blue tone - if they now replaced the silver stripe with yellow as per the initial design studies, they might just be onto something!!!

It's not going to be dropped, it's going to be adjusted to better match the original concept. So if anything they are reaffirming their decision.

Exactly as I wrote in the original thread. In my opinion, the dark blue color was too dark.

I can understand the proposed adjustment, although I like the current shade of blue. It reminds me of the very classy BMW color Nacht Blau.

I like the new livery (at least in good weather conditions...) but they really should have tested this before, as they did in the past.

They could have easily used the B737 stored behind the butterfly hangar in Frankfurt...

I honestly think a lot of a-netters with a decent bit of graphic design knowledge can do much better livery jobs than these expensive design agencies airlines employ for no doubt huge fees. How many of us have said the LH rebrand look was too dark.

99.99% of us. Just shows LH got it wrong and should’ve stuck to the original considering it wasn’t broken! (I know they are only adjusting the tone of the blue)

I am pleased about this. Needs a tweak. It's too dark as we've all said and we're all missing the yellow :)

The LH group doesn't seem to have a good track record with new livery introductions... there was the whole 'my Austrian' disaster, and now this...

This foolish claim once again... No, you couldn't and judging from the previous threads, there's no one on a-net how could do it either...
There's a reason why companies all around the world are paying millions of dollars to these design agencies.

All in all the rebranding is well thought out and will be a success in the long term. The readjustment of the shade of blue won't change that. But i understand why they do it. It is indeed too dark under an overcast sky. These mistakes are annoying but they can happen. So you stay calm and fix it.

I for one am happy that Lufthansa is working with professionals instead of the armchair-"i told you so"-experts on a-net.

Just an opportunity to start a new discussion. People would also like the discuss the #fail at marketing that is in place, and not just the livery itself.

Good excuse for LH ones who approved this "new" livery and are now changing it after only 3 weeks.

The shade of blue is too dark in some situations. So they'll change it. The over all concept, strategy and design is great and rather well received,if you ignore emotional aviation enthusiasts (which, let's face it, are not the prime concern for LH).

If you want to see people getting it wrong rather badly, go visit the old thread.

Well, as we all know, it's not really about the blue at all; it's all about the Yellow Surprise.

Seriously, my first reaction to the new livery was "this is going to look terrible on a cloudy day", and apparently that was correct.

Well, this armchair expert thinks that a lot of the proposals in the previous thread were a heck of a lot better than what we actually got! Good to see some sence at Lufty with their professionals, rather emabressing nonetheless! As someone with german roots, allow me to say, what is it all coming to ? First we get ´BER (or maybe not)´, now we have Lufties Colourgate!

People need to realize that it was a complete rebranding and not just a new livery. The livery is of medium importance at best.

In the total corporate overhaul of LH presentation to the world of its clients it is probably even less than medium important. And the upcoming tweak is a very minor one making the blue just a tad lighter in weather conditions other than clear sunshine.

My thoughts exactly. With luck, they'll eventually tweak it back to a design with universal appeal - in other words, something a lot more like what it used to be. -ir

The new shade of blue looks nice in the photos. Unfortunately they are changing it. I have a feeling a lighter shade of blue will not look as good as the current dark blue color. A bit more yellow would also be nice.

Well, allow me to say: There are more examples for the disappearance of german "perfection" and straightforwardness in the past years: Dieselgate (mainly Volkswagen), Stuttgart 21 (new railway station, similar case as BER...)

By the way: This statement of that LH-spokesman (in the link to airliners.de above)
"After landings in Hong Kong and New York, we realised that the blue paint sometimes looks much darker than it did in the test environment and especially in adverse weather conditions.”
is kind of snobby (to be polite)... Is there never bad weather in Germany - and if so, is it a better bad weather than elsewhere??? :biting:

I do find it amusing how many a.netters suggest the livery doesn't matter because the overall rebranding works for them. Well yeah I guess those yellow boarding cards make all the difference eh ? ;-) And before I get truly bored with this whole sorry saga. People go on about how simple and clean the livery is, like it's original which might win more favour, but it's not even that. We've been through the list of airlines it reminds us of already and there I was at GLA last week when an Air Contractors 'Fed Ex' ATR came in minus the Fed Ex titles and I thought "There's new Lufty again !" ;-)

It does look brighter compared to the almost black of the original. It’s not a very creative or exciting livery, but it looks modern and professional.

I was hoping for it to carry more down the fuselage with a ribbon of yellow sort of like the new AS scheme. So bland and disappointing for a legacy carrier.
