Heavy overnight snow, up to 30cm in some parts of Dublin. Taxiways on the airfield and approach roads to the airport currently impassible

Airport authority appears to be working to get the runways and taxiways cleared, but not departures/arrivals as of right now.

EI100 (EWR), EI136 (BOS), EI104 (JFK), EI130 (BDL) all went to Shannon. Looks like ET504 (ADD) did as well.

EY45 (AUH) has been circling for quite sometime near DUB. UA23 (EWR) has just started circling over central Ireland.

EY45 still circling, has been for along time. UA23 did one loop over central Ireland and is now over Great Britain. Going to LHR perhaps?

Our runway and taxiways have now been cleared and flight operations are resuming.

Please check with your airline for latest flight information before coming to the airport as there will be a knock on to the flight schedule today.

A lot of overnight snowfall here in Dublin. Up to 25cm expected today and coupled with a storm which is approaching (Storm Emma), there’s the potential of further disruption into the weekend ahead here arbor DUB.

Looking at the photos on irishtimes they have a max 3 cm of snow, the country is at standstill and their Prime Minister appeals to people to stay home. Funny really.

Well depending on where you are in the country its quite bad on the North East coast where as other areas have seen no snow. Many roads and motorways are dangerous to be on ! So yes those in red alert areas are advised to stay home and rightfully so.

What exactly is "funny" here? We are expecting 25cm of snow today. Met Eireann have issued a status Red Alert for Ireland. Of course it is prudent that our Taoiseach asks persons to stay at home rather than having people trapped in work later in the day unable to get home. I don't see anything "funny" with that. Furthermore, where I am located in Dublin, there has been about 14cm on snow.

Funny that a country is unable to deal with such a minor weather issue instead they issue dramatic appeals as if there was a natrual disaster. I guess that irishtimes must be showing some manipulated photos because clearly there is no 14 or 25cm on video / photos in article below.

25 cm of snow - as forecast in Ireland per reports - is a huge amount for a country that isn't used to it. You can't compare Ireland and the UK to Canada, Norway, Switzerland, etc. - which regularly get that amount and much more and are used to it.

Actually, the FUNNY thing is that you are so clueless. We are not a Scandinavian country which is accustomed to receiving snow on a regular basis.
You look at 1 photo and issue throwaway comments as a result. That's what I find funny. Thankfully we don't have someone like you in our Government.
I am reassured that our Government and authorities have taken sensible precautions to ensure the safety of the general public based on the expected
weather events over the course of the next few days.

As ever snow is very disruptive in countries which only have it infrequently. If you live in central Europe/Scandinavia etc you have winter tyres etc. In Ireland/England very few people have these as we get so little snow.
In addition each time it does snow we have a lot of drivers who have never driven (can't drive) in such conditions. They cause additional headaches.

I have seen the amount of snow clearing equipment at Heathrow and they still struggle - but a lot of that is how close to capacity they run.

WOW what a response. I live in south dublin and had over 15cm of snow this morning. It took me almost an hour to travel 22km into work across the m50 & I didn’t find any of it “funny”

Met Éireann issues red alert with 25cm of snow forecast

Met Éireann has issued a Status Red weather warning for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow.

It issued its highest alert after heavy overnight snowfall led to accumulations of up to 16cm in the east of the country.

Further snow is forecast throughout the day with the heaviest and most frequent showers in the east.

Met Éireann is forecasting up that to 25cm of snow will have fallen by midday tomorrow.

Airport closed again; DL 44 has been circling for a good 20 mins (at least); EI 124 diverted to SNN, as has LH from MUC. TK and a few EIs holding, while EK 161 now inbound.

Airport operations on hold again as they clear the runway again. Diversions occurring, some planes holding and trying to wait it out.

EI136 BOS-DUB which diverted to SNN early this morning is now re-diverting to SNN.

I live in Malahide, very close to Airport and there are some very heavy snow showers. AC842 from Toronto is circling along with UA126 from Washington, EI120 from Orlando and DL44 from New York JFK. WOW852 from KEF is gone to BFS.

EI 151 still holding, as are TK 1975, EI 120, UA 126 (for about half an hour now); DL 44 and AC 842 gone to Shannon , while EK 161 circling ... at FL330! LX 400 inbound now. (10.48am)

AC842 (YYZ-DUB) now diverting to SNN.

There were small accumulations of snow around the SNN area earlier this morning but it is starting to melt away now.

Yes 15 mins ago DUB updated that they cleared the runways and are open again. Expect further closures and delays,cancellations throughout the day and indeed over the next few days depending on how much snow falls.

Yes thats what Im hearing DUB-HAM just aborted take off and returning to gate as with some others too. I guess EI dont want aircraft away from base not knowing when they will be able to return. It could be 2 days !

DUB just announced ''EI has said there will be very significant cancellations across its short-haul operations to/from Dublin today, but it is aiming to operate a full transatlantic schedule.''

My partner is on the Etihad flight later, which is currently incoming . Hopefully it doesn't divert - long haul flights do seem to be getting through. He's never been so glad to ave an aviation nerd for a boyfriend..

I'm a bit confused as to what's going on at DUB now. It doesn't appear to have snowed in the last while, but nothing is landing. EI105 did recently take off, but the inbound EY41 has started circling over the Irish Sea, much like QR did before they diverted earlier.

And UA 23 that went to BRU has now canceled the BRU-DUB legs. Today's UA22 DUB-EWR is canceled as a result.

EI105 to JFK took off a little before EI119, and it appears that DL45 has pushed (likely getting de-iced). The EY flight looks like it is back on track to land at DUB.

EY still circling near Drogheda,Duleek,Stamullen. Wonder if they will go to SNN.

I’m on Tonight’s DUS DUB, which is cancelled. Nothing from EI at all. The agent in DUS told me that EI is a mess today, and don’t expect anything from them as they can’t cope with the cancellations.

The EI letter they handed me in DUS is in breach of the EU legislation as didn’t tell me my rights, just said talk to insurance company. No hotel or other mandatory requirements offered and when I requested I was told to book myself.

I rang the German Aer Lingus number, and was told, yes “I can change your ticket but I have to charge you to change”. Another breach of EU legislation.

Ah yes, the caring airline.

(BTW, EI seems to have cancelled all their European flights tomorrow. Next flight from
Düsseldorf is on Friday evening)

Here in Maine we routinely deal with 12+ inches of snow and life goes on, however many inches we still keep going, but in North Carolina one or two inches of snow causes drivers to abandon their vehicles on the interstate. Autres temps, autres moeurs. Why have a big snow removal infrastructure if this happens only once per five years?
