How is the F9 BUF-AUS segment doing? 2x per week has been running since the spring expansion, and it doesn't seem to be going away in the winter.

Good question .... I wish BNIA would make the passenger numbers public. I believe other airports do that.

Oh wow I missed that! Thank you for the update! I figured JAX and AUS were going to be short lived.

and wow A321 for all Orlando flights. That's great news! That route for WN, F9, and jet blue must make a killing.

I noticed that AA is sending their A321 twice a day in the mornings.

Wow that's quite the upgage from an E170 or CR9. Is this the first time ROC has received scheduled A321 service? Will there be an A319 on the other days?

So @VS4ever does some fantastic analysis of statistics in the Boston Aviation thread. I believe they use federal numbers but i am not sure, if your interested I would reach out to them to find out more information.

I will be heading over their later to see the last AC flight, but I will also report back on the final renovation updates!

Sorry it took so long, but I have compiled all of my pictures and videos from today into a thread of 8 tweets.
These include images of C-GORN arriving Rwy 22. Continuing on to show a video of startup, and taxi of AC7291.
It continues to highlight the canopy and the new arrivals area. I can't believe the progress they made in the last two weeks! However that's not to say there isn't a little bit of work left. Lastly I have linked to Cheryl Difinolo's twitter page which posted images of the strong museum of play exhibits.

Thank you for getting the pictures and video! I'm flying to Rochester this week. I'll get photos of current status when I'm there.

Thats good news .... definitely nice to see some bigger planes being used by AA and Frontier with the A321s.

I think its a sign that F9 with AUS and JAX were not as popular as they thought they would be ..... so they wont give BNIA anymore random routes and see if they work. Still shocked they didnt go back to Miami though.

I forgot what thread .... but I did look up BNIA for July. It showed an 100,000 passenger increase for july. But I looked back the rest of the months and it didnt show anything.

I am assuming that this expansion was the one announced last year?

Good for BUF! These sound like sensible improvements and expansions that won't burden CPE and will help the airport do its job even better. BUF's approach to arriving passengers makes more sense than ROC's new flow pattern, in my view.

ROC had a setup like BUF is about to build, where arriving pax immediately exited the secured area after exiting their concourse. Departing and arriving pax were separated, much like the renovation that was done at PVD. Now, ROC arriving passengers have to go back through the food court and through departing passengers for the new central exit escalators.

Back to DC today. Here are photos from ROC that I took on my departing trip today. Whether much of the renovation was needed, it certainly looks nice. My first thought was, they made the airport interior look like a giant Starbucks. Which isn't a criticism. And it was certainly nice to get out of the Uber car under a full canopy.

Buffalo Airport Just tweeted, that it received the #1 JD Power award for customer satisfaction among medium sized airports in North America!
It may not be a Super Bowl ring or the Stanley Cup but #Buffalo is now home to the J.D. Power award. We ranked #1 in customer satisfaction among medium sized airports in North America.

Yeah I think these are just general updates that were eventually needed. Like a new / updated baggage claim was definitely needed for BNIA.

I don't know what you mean by the situation, but I have used it recently, even before construction was done, so I assume nothing has changed post construction. I would think now that cars can use the normal drop off/pick up area, it would just be quieter and more pleasant to watch planes there now, although even before construction, they were also selling that area as a cell phone lot.

Recently (two months ago) they put up a fence around the hill in the observation area

Good video. SYR's renovations look really nice.

It's too bad they didn't keep the historic early 60's crenelated central building facade in some way, but the new design looks clean and contemporary.

Emergency landing at ROC yesterday due to possible bird strike. An American (Envoy) EMB-135 had to return after departing for Boston. 41 aboard. The plane returned and landed without incident, 14 minutes after departure.

Unfortunately, they didn't do much with the actual gate areas. they have new flooring and seating, but still has the low ceilings and old signage.

As far as SYR's gate areas go they're not bad and more seating was added and some walls have been removed. Also those gate areas were built above the original ones which are now used for offices and raising the roof in the gate areas would have added a ton to the cost which is probably why they didn't do it. As far as the observation area goes the fenced area is where they put some solar panels and the parking area is still the same so not much has changed.

Buffalo airport is ready for renovations! Starting December 18th! If you click the link, the airport I think is adding 2 gates ... even though the story doesnt mention it. Its highlighted in the blue on the right hand side. Right now, BNIA doesnt have any gates faced in the direction that the renderings show.

The sustainable master plan report that is on the BNIA website indicates that a new concourse south of the west wing where they currently park RON aircraft could evenually be built. Obviously they are planning ahead but any new gates as far as I know are not a part of this expansion, correct me if I'm wrong. The report is a few years old so who knows if a revised version has been prepared.

If you're talking about the grey rectangles that give the impression of a doorway for a jetbridge I don't think that's what it is. If you look at the renedering you can see the footers for the floor going in above around the grey rectangles. So they aren't anywhere near an outside wall. I doubt there is any plan to build new gates because it no doubt would have been mentioned.

Its highlighted in the blue on the right hand side. Right now, BNIA doesnt have any gates faced in the direction that the renderings show.

If you're talking about the grey rectangles that give the impression of a doorway for a jetbridge I don't think that's what it is. If you look at the renedering you can see the footers for the floor going in above around the grey rectangles. So they aren't anywhere near an outside wall. I doubt there is any plan to build new gates because it no doubt would have been mentioned.

ahh gotcha.... my bad. they did look like jetbridges.

I apologize, I meant the east wing

Yeah, I saw the expansion photos from the website. You are correct about that. The rendering just looked like gates, when in reality they werent.

And I agree they dont need the gates right now. The current airport gates wise isnt maxed out.

The article about the expansion did mention they were over 5 million passengers already! Which you can thank F9 for that. If by years end BNIA could get up to 5.5 million. That would be a huge win for the airport.

All airline stats seem to make sense. Southwest and Jetblue leading the way ..... The Legacy carrier never seem to expand their routes out of BNIA. (Yes, I know AA has added seasonal Miami for the spring and adding DFW. )

United and Delta, I honestly cant think of a seasonal or added route in recent memory.

Frontier will always be a wildcard. Due to them changing routes every few months. (It seems like)

another link to the BNIA expansion ....... it has renderings included. The renderings are interesting. The Departure East renderings are sort of confusing. I dont get the concept. Many passengers just go through security and go to their gates. The departure east rendering wants you to go up an escalator and go into a giant room to hang out. I dont see much use for it.

This is interesting and just indicative of the changes in air travel over the years. At one time American was the dominating carrier at BUF with a pilot and a flight attendant base. Now it is just a shadow of what it was and is also indicative of a different philosophy and travel patterns. Thanks for posting it.

It is only called Departures level east, because it is upstairs, not down. It is actually for arrivals. The big room is for people waiting for arriving passengers. Security will be in the center where it is now, but arrivals will come through new hallways on the east and west sides of the existing main terminal.

Ahh that makes sense. So instead of families clogging up the center of the terminal near security. They will be waiting in the departure level.

American Airlines is starting to come around ..... more than United or Delta. Dallas and Miami (seasonal) seems to be a start. Also getting a321 service a couple times in the morning to Charlotte is also progress.
