Help identifying the owner of this 737?

Thu Feb 22, 2018 6:52 pm

Apologies if this has been posted before but any ideas who owned the B737 and how it got there, you A-netters are a resourceful bunch

It was only a mystery to the Daily Mail and then only because they couldn't be bothered to do any research (or they didn't want to ruin a sensational headline). Hardly a mystery to anyone who can use Google. The answer to the mystery was in the comments section of the article.

It reminds me of the KC97 (aka Boeing Stratocruiser) that lived at the northwest part of KLAS for years, later to be turned into beer cans. It was to be made into a restaurant/bar.

Wasn't that a Globemaster.

Could be. I was there the day they towed it into position, circa 1980-82. I took a pic of it but can't find it at the moment.

Quite a few people on the “comments” section are helpfully suggesting it might be MH370...

you can see the reg at 4:24

Hold your cotton pickin' horses there; I see TWO abandoned 737s in that video.

PK-RII is the one which is described as a mystery because it "has no identification or branding on it"
..... except for the registration PK-RII clearly visible in this Daily Mail photo
Image

As for the mystery of how did they get it there; you can just make out three suspicious cut-lines across the fuselage. Google Earth shows the FOUR fuselage sections very loosely re-assembled, no tail components, and the wings laying flat on the ground, on 25/03/2013. It's not exactly difficult to imagine cutting the airframe down into bite-size portions to make transportation easier, but it's still nice to nail it down with satellite image evidence and an approximate date. I can even hazard a guess as to where it made it's final flight.... see below.

So - what about the SECOND 737 mentioned both by the Daily Mail and featured in the video?
That one does appear to be PK-RJO based on the "JO" on the nosewheel door. (also mentioned by LH982 in post#2)
This second Boeing 737 sits 8km North, in Kedonganan an area of Jimbaran Beach, famous for it's grilled Seafood restaurants, although the 737 is actually right next door to a Dunkin Donuts.

Of course, if the Daily Mail had also mentioned that a further 2000metres north we find Ngurah Rai aka DPS/WADD, second busiest airport in Indonesia, the mystery of how this 737 ended up where it did becomes slightly less mystifying. But why spoil a good story with factual details......
Indeed, it appears that it will be set up as a full-size flight simulator.
"Will be opening soon. AirCREW Sensation - Be an Airliner Captain for a Day Flight Simulator in Bali"
I presume they are targeting rich tourists, not actual pilots, because there is no way they are going to put an entire 737 on a hydraulic platform. :shakehead:

Did anyone else notice the door configuration?

When did 732's come with such a large over-wing door? Some seems to have modded the aircraft.

Yes, it was a C-124 Globemaster. Not a KC-97. There was a KC-97 cockpit stored near Henderson Airport south of KLAS, but it disappeared about 5-10 years ago.

According to airfleets.net, PK-KJO has been ‘stored’ since 2007.

Crawling through an aircraft which has been dumped for that long is seriously dumb.

First risk is corrosion.

Second risk is meeting dangerous insects or animals.

Crazy.
