Qatar Airways takes delivery of first A350-1000, mulls additional aircraft

Tue Feb 20, 2018 9:34 pm

Qatar Airways today has taken delivery of the first A350-1000. Aircraft is equipped with the new Qsuite product and has 44 additional seats over the smaller A350-900.

At the delivery ceremony in Toulouse, Al Baker mentioned converting existing -900s on order to the larger -1000, and might even order additional A350s on top.

The QSuite looks nice unless you're seated next to a stranger on the side where there's no divider between them. Looks a little too tight there.

Wow, the beautiful pencil-shaped aircraft is ready for service! Congratulations to Airbus and Qatar Airways.

That 9 across coach cabin sure looks more inviting than a Triple 7's 10 across sardine arrangement :)

Never mentioned as an option before. So this is more of a distraction than anything else, is it?
And for a good reason: from their optimin distance to all destinations .. ULR is uninteresting.

Talk is about more A350-1000.

Looks great, wish there were more images of the -1000 floating around!

Even with the slight delivery slip, the entire program as a whole is impressive. Certification less than a year after the first flight, and revenue service only a few months later?! The changes over the -900 are more elaborate than most seem to give credit for. Met or exceeded all performance parameters and weights (actually bumped MTOW little.)

The whole thing just seems to have gone really smoothly, with a nice final product at a PERFECT time. In spite of less capacity, a 35T lower OEW and significant fuel burn advantage over a 777-9 should prove tantalizing for some operators - especially with it being available today.

We need some more aerial shots of this thing - looks really graceful with those huge wings, should be a nice platform for some amazing liveries down the road.

Beautiful plane. Prefer it to the -900. My bet is that this will be their next "A321LR" product.

The QSuites concept looks interesting, especially the "family cube" in the center section. Is there a big untapped market for family suites and office meetings on a plane?

Stunning aircraft :)

There's a video on youtube uploaded today with a big tour inside the QR aircraft. I found the forward galley and pilot rest very interesting, have not seen such a Galley #1 config before... is it also used on the A359?

Yeah, nice plane. I was touring the test article F-WLXV two weeks back at the Singapore Airshow.
Cockpit was impressive, with the captain so proud over the amenities in his "office".
I sat in his left seat for while, hearing him wax lyrical over his ride.
Over at the cabin, specifically the Y section, I noticed a duplex toilet with a collapsible partition that would enable two persons to occupy it simultaneously. The crew explained that it is designed for persons with disabilities and his/her helper should the need arise, otherwise that middle partition is usually locked and the two toilets function as normal singletons.

As this Qsuite is in the same layout as the B777 but in a narrower aircraft, the A350, where is the space lost, are seats narrower, aisles narrower or something else?

The triple bogie landing gear is great. Excited to see what it in BAs livery. The Q Suites look great. The red mood lighting tho, not a fan.

Great looking plane.

If you all haven't already - absolutely MUST check out the laser projection show they put on for the delivery ceremony, just awesome (even in the rain!)

All seats have a divider. The middle seats have are fully enclosed but the partitions can be removed on request.

On the 777 there are dividers in the center section that can be pushed down so I presume the 350 is the same. Excellent and private

Dont A330s have something similar? I seem to remember a removable wall in the center lavs in the US A333 (5 or 6 years ago)

I understand that, they're just awfully close together. In the seated position you would be too close together and that would be awkward.

Don't get me wrong I think it is an amazing new product and those seats would be perfect for couples traveling together.

Really a nice plane. Lots of capability combined with good efficiency when compared to it's predecessors. (e.g. A340 and 777)
