could VA INT aircraft/crew problems be solved

Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:51 am

It appears VA Int needs more long haul aircraft in peak periods.

By getting aircraft in, in peak periods on an ACMI or wet lease basis, wouldn't that solve the problem ?

Not much use getting just the aircraft, if don't have enough crew.

ACMI can be over a short period, but leases are generally over longer periods aren't they ?

With ACMI, do crew always have to be paid per diem or whatever it's called & be put up in so many star hotels or can they go into rented houses/apartments for a few months ?

Isn't there already a thread on VA and it's fleet and financial woes?

VA INT need more capacity mainly at peak times like northern summer & southern summer. Just maybe they could get an extra long haul aircraft for 3 or 4 months a year, so they could compete better with QF esp OZ/USA

Maybe with 77W coming off lease soon at other airlines they could pick up a few planes.

They should really rationalise their wide-body fleet, that's a "IF" their financial situation improves.

In addition to wide-body rationalisation, it also means going in with 1 seating config. If it means dropping the "business class bar" in favour of savings on the SYD/MEL-PER Transcons, SYD/MEL/BNE-LAX and MEL-HKG, so be it.

VA are in a hard place atm as HKG and LAX are there due to the HX and DL JVs. HX's owners (HNA group) have financial issues themselves and DL are content with VA doing most of the work whilst providing VA with the co-located Check-In at Terminal 2 in LAX.

If NZ were to pull their JV by the end of 2018, it's more likely that the short-haul Intl division, especially NZ would reduced (with Trans-Tasman re-timed to feed VA's Skyteam interline partners). Tigerair may step in for some NZ flights that are more focused on O&D.

surely Tigers costs are lower than VAs, so why don't Tiger take over some TT flying yesterday ?
