For those who were actively following the A380 in the late '90's and early '00's, does this seem right? No reason to doubt FG...

Check your sources before quoting mainstream PC media totally disconnected with the French reality in TLS. FG was sacked.
Common knowledge in TLS and, needless to say, in the French press - but of course, you always downplay what they say.

Unfortunately the article doesn't clarify the role of Foregeard vs the role of Leahy.

Noël Forgeard is a nobody within Airbus & was soon shown the way out.
The real masterminds behind the A380 were Jean Pierson & his "mercenaire", as he called JL

Excerpt from Wikipedia:
"From April 1998 until June 2005 Forgeard was CEO of the aircraft manufacturer Airbus SAS."
If Forgeard was a nobody within Airbus, it is amazing that he was the CEO for seven years and presided over the A380 launch decision.

That is because you rely on wikipedia & are not privy to what happened into those years.
If you Google what the French said in that time, after all it's on their turf, you get another idea, Even wikipedia french version states the insider trading & golden parachute scandals that made the headlines while I was in Europe. For those of you who don't know, he did not have the balls to lead Airbus. In any case, he is not regarded as a successful CEO & was replaced the moment a more suitable candidate was found. I also happen to know his successor, Louis Gallois, but sorry, cannot disclose what he told me.

Anyway, ignoramuses feel free to stay on superficial articles, there was ample evidence at the time for those who DID follow Airbus management. FG was actually "sacked" ( "limogé", "remercié" ) for very good reasons, I wonder if Leahy will give his opinions on this.

Dude. Chill. No matter how bad a CEO, no CEO is a "nobody" at their company.

If you want to rise above that level, you probably would understand he is a nobody relative to other men within Airbus.
Read the analysis on Airbus & you will see FG left no legacy, Airbus/EADS were just above his abilities. Over and out.

If that was the case, he's been a remarkably loyal soldier. Always willing to tarnish his credibility pumping up the A380 and its prospects...
Maybe as an American he wasn't subject to the nationalist/regionalist pride motives behind the A380 and - in private - saw the business case more clearly.

So you're saying that Wikipedia is wrong and Forgeard was not Airbus CEO from April 1998 to June 2005?

Their article certainly talks about the Forgeard insider trading scandal.

You mean, he got fired?

It was believed Noël Forgeard got fired due to the A380 delays. And the insider dealing issue didn't improve his position.
