Alaska just posted a photo on instagram showing their newest a321 in the more to love livery! Unless the wall was reflective, it looks like there is another one sitting in the background! Great job AS!

I'm more intrigued by the oddity of seeing Chester on an Airbus, than the livery... but oh well, better than EuroWhite.

Good for AS, good for Airbus, good for everyone. Hope we see more oddballs out there!

Yes, it is indeed two planes. Both N926VA and N927VA will be painted in this scheme.

This special scheme is nice and all, but I'm more looking forward to seeing one in the standard scheme. The Alaska paint looks pretty snazzy on the A320 and I'm sure it'll look even better on a sharkletted 321NEO.

I haven’t kept track of the merger, I’m a little out of the loop. How much longer will they be operated seperate, will AS keep them on the existing virgin routes or will they be moved around the AS system.

Maybe all the AS/VX Airbuses should get a special livery. Of course that would be expensive. But as av-geeks, how cool would it be to see Chester on the tail and each plane dedicated to say a city served by the combined carriers?

I keep thinking this is a way to acknowledge Virgin and it’s employees/legacy without putting anything that may trigger licensing fees on the outside. Smart move

Yes, as long as it is registered in Germany, it has a German flag.

Interesting point. And there's the 737 out there with the same colors. While it's meant to reference AS and VX, there's a bit of irony with it being on a 321 now....more to love vs. the....737?

Yes they do it when they ferry planes for painting, but i think that the rules in America are a little different, and after paint the aircraft can already fly with its final registration visible.

Aircrafts from Toulouse don't have it, so it might be a German thing only.

There is a curious case regarding the current Lufthansa A321 with retro paint (D-AIDV) that during the testing phase had two German flags on the tail, one from the actual retro paint and another stick one because of the provisional registration.

I really like the blue Chester tail. It would be cool if AS could incorporate this tail on the new AS livery... at least a few frames.

Interesting! Never really thought about it, but I've never seen pictures of a test bird at TLS with a French flag. The more you know...

Also, on the topic--this livery is good. Saw the 739 coming into SEA for the first time recently, hopefully these two will make an appearance soon!

The requirement applies to all German-registered aircraft. Displaying it in a different place (such as LH do on the fuselage) requires a variation approval from the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt.

I was going to ask the question, why not put it over the US flag? But I'm guessing this is the reason? It has to go on the tail? Are the rules specific enough that the flag needs to go near the top center of the tail?

How tough would it be to have an airline sport this kind of livery fleetwise? I understand that white is cheaper and better for performance, but some airlines have fully painted birds. Is the fading between colors much more expensive to apply?

AFAIK a 4-color livery is included with any new 737. Having a polished plane or more colors is extra, at least from Boeing.

A Ferrari is faster than my toyota, however i cannot utilize the marginal utility a ferrari offers.

There is nothing in AS's network that can't be flown now, that an A321 can do. The 737's are lighter and more efficient on shorter legs anyways.

Yet many airlines still Bulk load the A320neo family, containers aren’t much of an advantage.

Does AS mix their two premerger fleets? For example, if I was on a route that was AS only premerger, would I be able to fly on an A32X? Or do they only use repainted aircraft on these routes? Do the A32X stay within VX routes?

As of right now, all previously AS routes are on Boeing, and all previously VX routes are on Airbus. Boeing/Airbus routes will be getting switched up starting in May I think, and flight attendant crews will be cross-training July-December of this year (this I know for sure)

$$$ Why? AS rebranding a couple of years ago was one of the best we've seen in awhile. I liked VX every time I flew them, same with AS. VX fans need to get over the fact they are gone.
