It looks like UPS has started to use SBD with one or two flights a day.

They haven't been there all that long. Apparently it's a few dailies which I haven't been able to determine why as UPS' west coast hub is only a few miles away at ONT.

Not sure why UPS flies there but it is usually UPS902 a 763 from HNL. That flight used to be an MD11 into ONT.

SDF-SBD-SDF will be flown 4 days/week until further notice. There's just a bunch of things to ship and road traffic deems it necessary to utilize another airport in the region.

I didn't know about San Bernardino, SBD, former Norton Air Force Base. Looking it up, the UPS service is currently the only commercial service at the airport. Volaris announced service to GDL from SBD's passenger terminal, but the service has not begun.

SBD has a 10,000x200 runway rated for the Airbus A380.

:airplane: This operation was announced in November as a seasonal operation at SBD. However, I've watched from my home UPS landings continuing into the new year. Yesterday, UPS had three flights into SBD -- Two 757s from OAK and BIL and the 767 from HNL. The activity occurs with arrivals starting at 16:00 and departures beginning around 18:30 and ending by 20:30. Most departures leave for SDF however last night one was scheduled to RFD. The announcement back in November said UPS was renting a 55,000 sq ft facility at SBD for their operation. It is true that Amazon has a very large Distribution Center(s) both at the airport and within a mile from SBD. SBD also is located in the triangle of three major SoCal freeways: I-10, I-215 and I-210 so shipments can easily depart the airport in all directions. Its great watching 757s and 767s arriving in SBD along with the Fire Bombers.

Also of note, Amazon Prime has established a major hub at ONT as well. Last week I counted eight 767s along the flight line in front of the old Terminal building near the Cellphone Parking Lot. So the IE is handling a lot of airfreight operations between UPS, Fedex and Prime and they all fly over my house so spotting is fun. :airplane: :airplane:

ONT has really become a major network node for Amazon Air. Our friends out there must be thrilled.

Yup we love it and we are hearing at the tower that we may be up to 15 flights a day by summer time including one to HNL by GTI.
