Southwest Flt 8500 OAK-PAE 2/11/18

Sun Feb 11, 2018 11:25 pm

Today I was flying from OAK to BUR. At the next gate was WN8500 going to "Snohomish County Airport". Anyone know what this flight was?

Couldn't it be an aircraft ferry ? So far it doesn't show up on flightradar for today however there's been several WN8500 lately, but not on the West Coast: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/wn8500
I have discovered that once people are truly captivated in their ignorance, they are generally unwilling to let the facts interfere.

Lots of maintenance work done at PAE. Used to be BF Goodrich, looks like it's called ATS now. You'll see a bunch of SWA on google earth there.

You will eventually see scheduled service to that airport, as Southwest has announced its intention to fly there when the new terminal is open for business. If you are not familiar, this airport is home to the Boeing big jet (777, 787, 747...etc) production facility. Also know as Paine Field.

WN sends planes to PAE all the time for mx. If you're monitoring the SEA area on a tracking site, you'll see several PAE-bound flights in a given week. Many of them come straight over from SEA. I live almost exactly halfway between the runways at PAE and SEA and have actually seen WN birds (AS as well) level off from a SEA departure and immediately set up for a PAE approach during north-flow.
Picked a hell of a week to quit sniffing glue.

When I first saw the title, I thought it was going to be a PAE announcent, but after reading the title I would agree with the above about the ferry flight for maintenance.

You see a bunch of many Boeing aircraft there. As it is where the 747/767/777/787 are built and final delivery services as well as refitting go on there.

Yes IIRC a lot of landing gear work was done up there on the 727's in my experience. Back in the day of course.

There's already been a PAE Announcement: https://myeverettnews.com/2018/01/25/so ... this-fall/

8000-8200s are typically charters; 8500s and up, IINM, are typically ferries.

WN8700 appears to be the primary 'ferry' flight from Boeing to WN, though they're flown from PAE to PHX instead of DAL from what I've seen on FlightRadar24:

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/wn8700

Ships 8552, 8554-8558, 8560 and 8561 have since gone from SEA to PAE and on to PHX, typically within a week. as WN8700. N8553W ferried to PHX as WN8701, while N8559Q ferried as WN8703.

How many more 738s will WN be getting from this current order? N8563Z, N8564Z, N8565Z and N8566Z are the next ones due within a matter of weeks, depending on when they get the final signoff.

Yup all -800s go from BFI-PAE-PHX
MAX go straight from BFI-PHX

Still a good handful of -800s to go. They will almost fill up the 85XX range

I see AS and WN fly maintenance flights out of PAE all the time. AA has a few planes parked at the south end. I think I’ve seen HA here a few times too.

The big former ATS and BF Goodrich hanger is now the Boeing KC-46 program headquarters but ATS apparently has other facilities at PAE still.

I'm guessing the -800s make the PAE stop for split scimitar winglet installation?
