7375A is now back at ILN - possibly for storage until 387AM gets out of paint shop. Just a guess

Well, there may be a reason they're holding it before painting, but I doubt that paint shop capacity is the reason. Dean Baldwin has 3 locations, and CAM has used all 3. And most have room for more than one widebody at a time. That said, there certainly could be scheduling issues if another carrier is burying the painters in business, so you could be right.

One thing to wonder - Why doesn't Amazon run any ground linehaul routes between the Las Vegas area fulfillment centers and the Phoenix Sortation Center (PHX8)? At least I don't think they do since I never get any shipments from there. I would think it would make sense based on geographic location. We have ground links with the Inland Empire fulfillment centers, as well as those in Northern California and parts of Texas (both of which were added last year).

Could it be due to capacity constraints at Las Vegas? I have heard somewhere that Las Vegas sends a lot of packages to Southern California, which the designated Sortation Center is ONT5 in San Bernardino. Perhaps with the demand to Southern California, they can't handle much of the Phoenix area demand which is otherwise mostly split between the local fulfillment centers and the Inland Empire, with some load from Northern California and Texas.

On the rare occasions that I get a shipment from an atypical fulfillment center within ground range, they have either shipped via UPS Ground or OnTrac. From my recent memory, once I have gotten a shipment from somewhere in the San Diego area and it was via UPS Ground, and twice I have gotten shipments from Reno and once it shipped via UPS Ground the first time and via OnTrac the second time.

FWIW - Atlas Air has purchased from ILFC LN 595 (ex-VIM Airlines). It has been sitting @HHN since Oct-17. Now re-registered N662GT. May or may no go to Amazon.

Guessing it has something to do with sea freight routes dominating their distribution network -- more east/west than north/south movement.

Amazon does run some ground linehaul routes from Northern California to PHX8 (so far I have seen Tracy and Sacramento). I believe this started the spring of last year, although Sacramento might be a more recent addition.

I have heard somewhere that Southern California gets a lot from the Las Vegas area fulfillment centers; perhaps they don't have the capacity to handle the demand from Phoenix in addition to SoCal and Las Vegas itself, so Phoenix mostly feeds off the local fulfillment centers and the Inland Empire, with some added capacity from Northern California and Texas.

Photos? Anyone? Anyone?

PS Cmairplaneman: Any idea what work AMES is doing on the DL 767-400s and UA 767s that have been coming to ILN over the past several months?

Not really sure about the DL/UA ops at ILN. For sure they are in for maintenance. It could be for some sort of a mod on the 767 or just regular maintenance (which I doubt) because DL usually does it all in ATL. A UA 763 went for a test flight after being at ILN for about 3 months. Some don't stay very long and some stay a month or two. A 734 (ex British) just arrived from the paint shop. It came from PEMCO so it might have gotten a cargo conversion. Let's see what happens to that bird.

The 734 is going to ATSG investment West Atlantic Airways after Okay didn't take it.

The DL aircraft that just left was there two weeks. As you say, that last UA one was there 3 months.

No clue what 387AM paint scheme is... I am also curious about it. Also interesting how there is no pending tail number change for this bird. Usually they change to CX or CM and occasionally AZ but who knows..

The next ex AA 763 for ATSG, N376AN rolled off the conversion line yesterday, should be out on a test flight soon, will keep an eye for it. Aircraft arrived in TLV 09NOV2017, just a over 4 months which is impressive considering other aircraft took closer to 6 months (No pre work done at BFM before arrival in TLV)

Wow...that is fast -- and closer to what they used to say was their time frame.

Thank, Yochai!!

That should be it for ATSG for at least a couple of months. And I guess we will see N369AA heading over to you relatively-soon now that 376 is done.

I expect that you'll be seeing N380AN and N373AA heading your way eventually as well.

On the Atlas side of things, looks like N1427A is getting ready for delivery from TPE.

Thanks, Yochai! That's about 5 months to the test flight, so IAI/Bedek is moving them along more quickly these days.

Frankly, I thought that we would see 1427A and 1013A finished at TPE and QPG well before 1511A was complete, but that hasn't turned out to be the case.

1511A has PW engines, so it (and 1619A) will be one-offs for Atlas.

Just saw a nice photo of N1427A from two weeks ago being towed around at TPE. Going over to paint if I'm guessing correctly, which means it should be all-done around now. It has been there at EGAT for the BCF conversion since 10/1/17, so it would be about 5 months and 2 weeks for the conversion, and then figure two weeks from 3/11 for paint. If all goes well, should be on its way back to the US shortly.

This was the first 767-300BCF to be done at TPE, I believe. It's at least the first one for a US carrier. N1489A is also there -- since 1/27/18.

https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8882988

Does anybody have a simple explanation as to why -- in the time during conversion and before painting -- the BCFs get coated entirely, without the tail logo being scrubbed, whereas Bedek takes the old logo off the tail (except for the rudder -- I know for balance), and doesn't coat the whole plane? The Bedek approach seems more-sensible to me, but that's why I'm asking. Not coating the whole plane lets us see where they did the sheet metal work.

So N1427A (for Atlas/Prime Air) did a test flight today around the perimeter of Taiwan. Nifty profile. Looks like that will be the first to be shipped back to the US of the 3 that should be coming in the next week or two.

This was, I believe, the first conversion to be done at EGAT in TPE, the new/overflow contractor on the 767BCF. (QPG is where they are usually done.) Took about six months, presumably including painting. That's longer than QPG usually takes, but this was the first one.

Nice track of flight:
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N1427A

Meanwhile, 1511A at TLV and 1013A at QPG are likely to be next, followed by 1439A at TLV.

That's on the Atlas side, and we're also keeping an eye on N376AN at TLV, 'cause we keep an eye on the CAM aircraft because you never know where they're gonna go (well, we know some).

It appears there will be some route changes in the next month or two. ATI will be flying to TPA and a number of ONT routes will switch to other carriers. I don’t have the bids in front of me, but there are numerous tweaks. SEA gets a new route or two, I know that. I’ll dig through and see if I can spot any other obvious changes, but there are definitely some coming in the next few days.

Curious if there's any changes to PVD. Currently 2 flights daily, Atlas ONT-PVD and ABX CVG-PVD. Hasn't been an ATI flight since January.

And as HKCanadaExpat reported in the excellent 767 thread, N1427A has now been delivered to MIA (on 3/29/18), departing TPE about 24 hours after its cool circle test flight around the entire perimeter of Taiwan.

Nice photo of the aircraft, painted, landing after its test flight. https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8897680

I'm assuming that Atlas will be picking up some new routes, and that routes are going to be added to the network. Atlas has a bunch of metal sitting around underutilized at this point, with 7 more on the way.

I didn’t see any in the bids on our end. Sometimes stuff pops up mid-bid if Amazon decides to mix things up, but other than that I can’t say for certain.

Well, candidly I'm just following Atlas, Kalitta and CAM, kind of an outgrowth of following Prime Air.

At Kalitta, I don't really know their plans, but 760CK, 761CK, and 762CK were already done, then 763CK was delivered from MEX on 3/4/18. 764CK is down there being converted; figure completion sometime in June. So that's two in 2018 for sure. There is one more frame that Connie has stored which could certainly be done this year if he wants to, and there are rumours that he's acquiring others, but that's all I know.

At Atlas, 1427A was just delivered from BCF conversion in TPE, the first one of 2018. There are six more in conversion at TLV, TPE and QPG, all of which will be done in 2018. There is also one (1499A) that should be going for conversion soonish. So that's seven to do, plus one just done, which makes 8 for Atlas in 2018 for sure. As noted in this thread, Atlas has reserved 4 additional "A" numbers beyond the known conversions, but no confirmation of what to make of that.

CAM put 379CX in service with Northern Air Cargo on 2/8.
387AM arrived back in ILN from paint on 3/18/18. It's going to Amerijet, I believe, but not like immediately, and it should get a renumber before going into service.
7375A should be coming back to ILN from paint today (3/30/18). Can't confirm where it's going.
376AN, 374AA, 377AN, and 383AN are all at TLV being converted. All will certainly be complete in 2018.
369AA is at ILN waiting to go over to TLV, presumably when 376AN comes back, which should be soon-ish.
I also think we will see CAM send 380AN and 373AA for conversion this year.
So...that's 3 so far converted in 2018, with 5 more for sure and I think 2 more expected. So that would be 10 for CAM in 2018.

Hi, Whip. MIssed you.

No, as you know, of course they don't fly for Amazon. But in following Amazon's Fleet Growth -- the title of this thread -- I became interested in what the volume and potential throughput is at the conversion houses. IAI/Bedek opened an expansion line at MEX because of the significant volume at TLV from primarily CAM and Titan/Andromeda, and its first, second and third conversions have all been for Kalitta, so I paid attention to it. Moreover, CAM, Kalitta, and Titan/Andromeda have been the primary converters of 767s for US operations in the past two years, so it's of interest. And that interest grew out of following Amazon's fleet growth. If some other US carrier/lessor gets into the 767-300 conversion game in a significant way, I will probably end up learning about them too.

Sure -- and your question makes sense. Kalitta has always been rumored to have been approached by Amazon about doing some flying for them, but the rumors always were that Connie wasn't interested in giving them the stock warrants that they wanted. Clearly, they are an excellent carrier and a potential service provider. I should have made clearer that I was just commenting on them because I had some (minimal) knowledge of their 767 fleet activity.

I thought that it was bought by CAM for conversion and then sold. Its US registration (N376CM) was cancelled in late 2017 and the FAA has it shown as having been exported to Israel. I don't know who bought it. The recent ATSG financials all reference having sold in 2017 (2016?) an aircraft that they had planned to convert. I think that's the one, and I have never been able to get any color as to why they did that. However, it's important to note that when CAM leases an aircraft to a foreign carrier while still retaining ownership, the FAA database shows it as having been "Exported" when it is reregistered elsewhere. That's what happened to N370AA, which is actually leased by CAM to Cargojet. FAA has it as "exported to Canada". So that notation doesn't necessarily mean a sale, but if I'm correct, that's what happened. I should look at HKCanadaexpat's excellent database in his 767 thread here; he may have more info on it.

N1511A did a test flight yesterday following conversion, will be delivered to KPSM tomorrow morning pending delays. N376CM presumably sold to the Israeli Air Force to be converted to VVIP aircraft for the ISraeli PM and presidential use and is currently being converted for the purpose but I am unable to confirm this at the moment.

No indication at this time that ATI will have more than 20 767-300s for Prime Air. All but two of the 9 767-300s that I think ATSG will have converted by the end of the year are pre-leased to other carriers, according to the last ATSG financials, IIRC.

Right now, the breakdown is: Six 767-200s operated by ABX Air, Six 767-200s operated by ATI, and Eight 767-300s operated by ATI. So that's 20. ATI also maintains an extra 767-300 (395CM) that it uses for government charters and as an emergency/maintenance spare above and beyond what Amazon schedules in as hot/maintenance spares from their 20. ATI also maintains an extra 767-200 (255CM) for the same reason. So 20 leased to ASI (formerly AFS), and two kept partially-available by the carrier to keep its performance metrics up. ABX has some slack in the fleet, so they can cover the leased aircraft if need be with another 767-200 from their fleet.

I recently placed an order on Amazon on Saturday night. It shipped Sunday morning at 4:16 AM local time and arrived at the Sortation Center at 10:36 PM local time. There doesn't appear to be any Amazon Air scans in the tracking, so this might be a record distance, since I have never seen such a huge amount of time between the ship time and the Sortation Center scan. The longest distance I have seen by ground so far is from San Marcos, TX. It is now at the Delivery Station. I wonder which fulfillment center could it have shipped out of.

To my surprise, it shipped from ONT9 (in Redlands, CA, though with a San Bernadino address). I wonder what took it so long to get from there to the Sortation Center. Was it marked as shipped before it actually shipped? I know ONT9 is a Non-Sortable fulfillment center, which deals with oversize items or items with irregular dimensions.
