What's an AA 321T or a 319-O?

Fri Feb 02, 2018 12:14 pm

Hi

I know that an AA 319-EOW is a 319 that can be used over extend areas of water (but not etops) but what do the following codes refer to?

AA 321T
AA 319 -O

Also are there any other aircraft codes like this that might be unique to AA?

Thanks

Alex

321T is the code for the transcontinental fleet that have reverse herringbone First, Business and MC. Mainly flying JFK-LAX, SFO-JFK and a few others.

The A321T is the transcontinental version of the plane, used to operate JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO services on American Airlines. That version of the A321 seats 102 in a 3 class cabin configuration. Low density, premium-heavy, transcon dedicated aircraft.

In a similar vein, I've been struggling to find the differences in the Aer Lingus A330 fleets since they refer to different types on their website. And Iberia did the same for a while, using non-standard codes. Anyone able to shed some light on either EI or IB?

An A319-O is an L-AA A319, I believe. I could be wrong, though.

When an airline uses a different (non standard or unoperated) type visible on their website (eg IB and their “A345s”) it is usually done to signify a different interior configuration. IB’s “A345s” were A346s with the old business class iirc. AZ did something similar with their 763 fleet, with some referred to as 764s due to differing interior.

Thank you for clarifying. I do recall the AZ 764 indeed. I guess it would confuse when they use a standard identifier, for a non-realistic aircraft, such as AZ not having 764's in their fleet. Iberia without the A345's. But Aer Lingus does have 333's and 332's and use letter/number identifiers such as AA does with the 321T, and DL does too. At least their seat charts acknowledge it but EI doesn't show seat charts online so I was using seat guru which of course doesn't refer to the lettering. No worries as will it all sort itself out.

On some of EI's A330s there are crew rests for ULH(West Coast) ops, so the only real difference is an extra row of seats on the A330-200 EI-EWR behind 3L/R, but it's blocked off as bassinet seats anyway. The newest A330-300s(EI-GAJ, EI-GCF), the HGWs, also have the crew rests so are missing a row for the stairs down in the same position. Other than everything else is the same, the seatguru maps are accurate.
