Sure. Well thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree on 5x being a lot in the winter, I think even in past summers 4x has been the most. I'd hate to see BA go (its an old BCAL route) and also find it hard to kind of believe overall, but with the JV anything is possible.

BA isn't leaving DFW, they will continue to operate one of the frequencies. It wouldn't make sense for BA not to fly into the 4th largest market in the country.

The AA flight from MIA will be a 772 and BA is staying in DFW.

No, just those 3. No others exist. None.

Maybe - just MAYBE - the engines on the A319s of the 3 airlines he mentioned are the engines that AA prefers on their A319s? You probably should apologize for your post.

It's F9

Just looked up the schedule on aa.com (which was just updated). It actually appears as if the remaining AA flight to LHR from MIA will be on a 77W and that the remaining BA flight to DFW will be a 744.

Will AA ever add service to HRL? HRL will be the only destination other than DAL and MDW that has service on WN but not on AA after AA starts service out of ECP on June 7th. While AA doesn't serve DAL or MDW, AA does have its main hub at DFW and a hub at ORD.

AA flies to BRO and MFE. That pretty much covers the Valley.

Nice to see MIA-TYS return. It operated from 2010 to about the time American went into bankruptcy. At one point it was running twice daily. I’m assuming it’ll be operated with an ER4.

Selfishly hoping for LAX/MEM from AA considering their growth in MEM. That would cover all their Hubs outside of JFK. I think American grew somewhere around 30% from MEM in 2017

While I do agree with you that BA won't be leaving DFW, they would leave DFW if for some reason it made sense for the joint venture to utilize a different aircraft that didn't happen to be a BA aircraft.

To clarify, American Eagle will discontinue it's one daily Miami-Dulles flight, but American Airlines will continue it's two daily mainline flights.

Yep, and they seem to get a premium flying those routes to DCA over IAD. Hence why AA rather
Focus much of it’s flying to DCA, which they consider a focus city.

PHX-IAD is long and thin when DCA and BWI cover the region just fine and it would cannibalize those two markets for AA to add it. NYC simply isn't worth the competition when the Shuttle is going to provide the best yields going hub to hub. Why PHL and ORD are not there, I couldn't tell you as even 2-3x Eagle flights would cover the demand.

DCA is considered a hub by AA
About American Airlines Group
American Airlines and American Eagle offer an average of nearly 6,700 flights per day to nearly 350 destinations in more than 50 countries. American has hubs in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C.

I agree with your point since AA also does connect some passengers to other East Coast destinations through its DCA hub in addition to serving non-hub destinations nonstop from DCA.

Thats not what an internal memo from the MIA station manager suggests.

"As we continue to position ourselves for long-term success, we also have made the decision to discontinue service to Washington Dulles (IAD). Our customer loyalty and capacity is stronger at Washington Reagan (DCA) where we have nine daily flights; we can better utilize the IAD aircraft elsewhere. We will still continue to be the leader in seat share between DCA/IAD and MIA/FLL when this change takes effect on December 19."

In my opinion, the lack of DFW-BUF was one of the bigger holes in American’s domestic network. I always found it perplexing that BUF had flights to LAX, LAS and PHX (on other carriers granted) but lacked service to DFW. Anyway, nice to see that get filled.

I was also shocked DFW - BUF took so long. They have been trying to get that route for awhile now.

Frontier has a winter route from BUF - MIA. AA did try the BUF - MIA last winter for a short period of time. But yeah, Canadians love flying to anywhere in Florida. It would probly do VERY WELL.

And considering the size of the DFW market, it wouldn't make any sense for BA not to operate one flight on their own metal on the route. If DFW was a smaller market like CLT, I could understand why AA would want to operate all the flights on their own metal, but DFW is a large global metropolis. For onward connections, BA is better as you don't have to change terminals at LHR unlike AA.

This makes very little sense. DCA is a good 20 to 40 miles from the catchment are that IAD would serve. Areas like Reston, Great Falls, Leesburg, South Riding, Ashburn, etc. are all flush with cash and are much closer to IAD than DCA. This is akin to saying that AA shouldn't bother serving SNA because AA serves LAX.

I’m struggling with thhis one too. At dead least, there’s should be 2-3x on this route. Doesn't have to be mainline-175/CR7/9 would be fine. I know a few people in Northern VA, probably half of which are UA and half are former US/AA who prefer (and in one Guy’s case, increasingly) prefer IAD. I

You probably mean anywhere Orlando area and south. If you drive just 80 miles north from Orlando to Ocala, well, it's a very different place.

Just announced

This weekend, we will add six daily winter seasonal routes from MIA starting Dec. 19, including Houston, Texas (HOU); Grand Rapids, Michigan (GRR); Buffalo, New York (BUF); Providence, Rhode Island (PVD); Omaha, Nebraska (OMA); and Fort Myers, Florida (RSW). We are also adding new routes from CLT including daily service to Champaign/Urbana, Illinois (CMI), starting Dec. 19, and Saturday service to Ithaca, New York (ITH), starting Dec. 22. And, we’ll bring back Saturday service from LGA to Nassau, The Bahamas (NAS), starting Dec. 22. All routes will be available for sale beginning July 15.

HOU-MIA seems interesting to me. I’m guessing they’re going after connecting traffic to the Carribean around the holidays. I figured when AA expanded at HOU it was going to be CLT or ORD to get business travelers.

Still waiting on COS-PHX...

Still waiting on MLI-CLT, since apparently every other similar sized urban area in the Midwest has flights to CLT now.

Glad to see the ITH-CLT route added. Hopefully it is successful enough to go daily.

PVD-MIA has been talked about for so long I can hardly believe they are actually going to add it! Any idea on flight schedule details?

How has CLT done since the merger? Grown or shrunk?

Up about 200 flights a month from 2015. It will grow much more once additional gates become available.

Not sure about that. I don't have 2015 numbers, but as far back as 2012, US at CLT had ~631 daily flights. As of May '18 AA had 675.

Added twice daily to SBN in June of this year. So thats 677 flights on AA and Eagle.

I was asking because we were told by EXPERTS on here that CLT would be shrunk/right-sized

I averaged mainline monthly departures for the year and subtracted, that was all I did. I didn't factor in Express which is where I think much of the recent growth has come from. But either way flying has increased in the last few years.

I wish they would bring weekend service back on DCA-SBY during the summers. Call it the beach express or bay bridge buster.
