Just had a look at the MAN wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Airport - it shows Thai Airways starting December 2018? Does anyone know anything about this?

If you look back at the previous posts it has already been discussed in great detail, although it has not been officially confirmed by either MAG or THAI the start date seems to have become public hence the reasoning of the addition of THAI on the Manchester Airport Wikipedia page albeit without a citation.

Depends on your airline. Some offer it free to passengers in Business and some don’t.

The good thing is, it’s not just Wikipedia stating the routes could happen. GDS is also helping in the case of Baltimore and MSY Airport in the case of the other.

Excellent figures, even though easter fell within the month. However, the second half of easter fell in april, so if march was helped by easter then april will see an equal benefit as those that departed on fri-sat will return in april, win win .

One thing we may need to keep a look out for this summer is that though the ACL report shows around 1% increase in seats is how many times will there be an equipment upgrade. Looking at the arrivals since 9.45pm on 12th April through to 9.45pm on 14th April, we've had/got scheduled the following list where I would consider larger than anticipated aircraft being used on our services:

Do we have any record of what is actually meant to be flying those routes? Some routes to look to have established patterns e.g. A321 on certain LH services. If there are frequent upgrades, there may be scope that passenger numbers may increase at a slightly higher rate than we expect. Of course we know TK is scheduled to be operating 3 weekly A330s but they only start from June so how many times will they use them prior to then, and would they actually use it more than 3 times a week in summer?

The AirTanker A332 that LS use from Manchester positioned back to Brize Norton yesterday, presumably ready for checks and decals prior to heading here. It's been on lease to Eurowings.

I'm perplexed by the BA route to DUB. It's on an Embraer 190 and is a lot less frequent and more expensive than EI or FR. AFAIK it doesn't even offer good connections.

Fairly straightforward. It operates LCY-DUB then does the DUB-MAN sector followed by some MAN based sectors then MAN-DUB before doing DUB-LCY. It's just a way of earning some revenue on an otherwise positioning flight.

Embraer it’s really just a positioning flight one weekly in summer. To and from Dublin where it normally operates to the City.
It’s part of the developing BA cityflyer weekend usage on holiday flights from Manchester garnering some revenue however small to cover the positioning legs.

BA Cityflyer have some of these positioning flights at a number of other regionals and Stansted as well.
If they didn’t do these legs quite few of the fleet would be parked all over Europe at the weekend . Indeed some still are.

It’s all about resource utilisation, they aren’t competing with partner AER LINGUS for feed indeed its not even codeshared by AER LINGUS right now.

Oh and to just to add Dublin is heavily point to point traffic contrary to Anet myth 101 . No need for feed to support these flights or those of AER LINGUS of which just one daily flight makes significant connections possible into their main TALC bank.

Confirmation of the new La Rochelle route with a 12% increase in capacity to 2.8 million searts. Jet2's website confirms 2 extra aircraft and a 2nd A330 in operation.

It is indeed really surprising that there isnt direct connectivity between MAN & BOM/DEL. AI used to have flights to MAN many many moons ago & SQ used to have SIN-BOM-MAN flights twice a week but that stopped in early 2000s I think.

Question for this thread: is a 789 on the horizon for QR instead of their current 788s?

The reason I ask is I have flown MAN-DOH 5 times now at various times of the year and flight has been 100% full every time. As Doha airport continues to grow as a hub and the odd bit of increasing O&D traffic, wonder whether this would warrant the extra capacity.

Matthew Qatar are very flexible with their aircraft however due the the UAE/Saudi blockade their higher performance models are rather stretched at the moment yet they do have excess narrow bodies parked up.
We have from time to time got an occasional 77w however these are increasingly used on South East Asia runs these days.

Yes 359 I would say a possibility too, if any. Interesting that Cardiff gets 359 straight away.

time for some rough analysis...

So in 2017, there were 2,945,744 passengers on JFK-LHR and vice versa. It's not unreasonable to divide that amount in half to get a one-way total. So call it1,472,872 passengers out of JFK. Converting that into the connecting number of passengers results in 603,877. Not knowing the market share for MAN is a bit unfortunate so doing a bit of guesswork: 10% market = 60,387 passengers, 5% market = 30,194 passengers 1% market = 6,039.

Using the same principle for MAN-LHR, we can say there were 332,600 passengers who flew ex-LHR to MAN. I believe transfer traffic makes up 75% of the total numbers which equates to just under 250,000 passengers. I'd anticipate that JFK is likely to be the number 1 connecting route so I'd tend to think we're looking at 60,000 figure connecting.from JFK.

So what are the implications for MAN-JFK? If we say 60.000 passengers are routing JFK-LHR-MAN then in follows that a similar amount will be routing MAN-LHR-JFK Now what type of aircraft has the potential to carry 164 passengers each way every day at a profit to make up the extra 120,000 passengers a year I reckon A321NEOLR. So which airline operating JFK to LHR could potentially be operating them?

The latest CAA statistics are out covering March. Focusing in on 1 route only... Dubai which saw a 10% rise in numbers to 94,816 in the month.

I give you 4 scenarios for the 3 daily flights:

1. 3 x 519 seat A380 + 0 x 615 seat A380 = 96,534 available seats. Loads would be 98.22%
2. 2 x 519 seat A380 + 1 x 615 seat A380 = 102,486 available seats. Loads would be 92.5%
3. 1 x 519 seat A380 + 2 x 615 seat A380 = 108,438 available seats. Loads would be 87.44%
4. 0 x 519 seat A380 + 3 x 615 seat A380 = 102,486 available seats. Loads would be 82.89%

So.... exactly why has EDI "nabbed" the expected MAN flight numbers and times for the 4th daily service?

I find it hard to see where the MEB4 go from here at MAN. To me, they've probably created a critical mass whereby MAN can demonstrate a tangible one stop market to a number of key destinations - which them become served directly.

HKG is the best recent example of this, and you could see a similar pattern following with BKK, BOM and DEL in the next year or two. Perhaps the MEB are concerned about launching another daily rotation which may be undermined by a direct competitor stealing a large slice of its target market.

They say the route will initially operate via BRU. Do we know when they will start operating it directly? Or will that be decided one they have a better idea of loads/revenue etc?

Think it going to be a wait and see route. Currently BRU is served i believe daily via Vienna. I just wonder if BRU has a problen getting sufficient passengers to use the current arrangement

We won't have to wait long to see ET in MAN this year... one of the Champions League exodus to Kiev is actually using MAN and not LPL. An ET A350 will be here from 0730 until 0900 on the 26th May. The other confirmed news about ET is that it's gonig to be Terminal 1 as MAN stated that on their FB page.

So...shall we be "greedy" and see which other African routes could happen in the next 10 years. Cairo would probably be restarted, the South African destinations were on the Evening News list to look out for.(presumably aiming for Thomas Cook) alongside ADD but 'm just wondering if there would be sufficient demand for Lagos or Nairobi.
