Is this the first A350 service to ORD? Taking this flight in September and looking forward to it?

Did Finnair bring in the 350 last year, or am I mistaken?

Finnair has not sent the A350 into ORD at all. I believe JFK was the only NA destination last year.

Hi, I’m not sure if anyone knows this but I’ve noticed that one small section of Terminal 1 has been cleaned. It’s right by the beginning of the sidewalk as you drive up. The roof has been scrubbed clean and has its actual light gray tone back. I’ve seen it for a while now and anticipated more cleaning to ensue but nothing more has happened.
Does anyone have any inside info about this.?
By the way, if they do get around to cleaning the whole terminal it will look amazing.

In other news this weekend we saw:

Norwegian has started LGW-ORD service with a 344 seat 787-9.

BA resumes 2x daily 744 LHR-ORD

IB resumes A340-600 MAD-ORD

AA resumes ORD-CDG, ORD-FCO both with 788

LX resumes 77W A333 mix service ZRH-ORD

There was also a one off AA A332 PHL-ORD-PHL

Sweet!! Great tarmac video in general....how'd these guys get this kind of access? This is one of the better ramp videos I've seen.

Awesome find and thanks for sharing.

All good stuff. Welcome Norwegian.

Isn't the BA only temporary until the A380 arrives, I believe next month?

Also, isn't it a little earlier than years past for AA to resume those CDG and FCO routes? Weren't those were usually April start dates before....? Summer comes early I guess....

Does anyone see additional DY service coming eventually? Perhaps to CDG, AMS, OSL, CPH, etc?

I anticipate additional Norwegian service. Perhaps CDG, OSL, MAD. I wonder if DY will ever base 787s at DUB/EDI for longer flights.

They have sent A350 to JFK once. Their only regular A350 destination in NA has been Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, the once a week service started this winter season. They also use A350 to the Caribbean, Havana and Puerto Plata. SFO has got a couple of A350 charters.

But, I can never understand how someone can safely drive and shoot video at the same time...

Yes BA A380 should replace one of the 2x daily 744s for the summer season, I believe it will be flt 295.

And I honestly had the same thought about AA CDG, FCO.

It’s surprising that they (NZ) aren’t going to depart from T1. Considering this is a UA JV flight like those of NH&LH. Can a 789 fit in concourse B/C easily?

Time of day. When new gates are added...

LH and NH are the “prefered” partners at ORD, but NZ and SQ are getting “cozy.”

Look for some more announcements in late 2018 to affirm the “partnership.”

Yes they can fit into Concourses B/C. However, until the global terminal is finished, it makes more sense for it to depart and arrive at Terminal 5.

Woohoo!! Awesome... a very warm welcome and thank you to the NZ folks. I'll definitely be on this flight one day, possibly next winter when it's summer down there.

Big things poppin' at ORD this year. Some very well-substantiated reports of Qantas being next, or at least, taking a good hard look. Cat's out of the bag now.

Yep just found this...according to this site, May 4 is the date. Looks like it will be 296/297. Either way, looking forward to seeing the whale on the tarmac in Chicago.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not but from just parusing schedules I see that AS will operate SEA 5x this summer. I’m fairly certain this will be the first time they do that. Also they will do ANC 2x. I’m not sure if that is daily though. UA will also do ANC 2x so on some days there will be 4x do ANC along with UAs 1x to FAI will make 5 a day to Alaska. Pretty cool.
Also I saw DL is putting a 738 on one of its SEA flights and SLC will have mainline on 3 of 4 flights. First time I’ve seen that in a long time. Also some 717s operating to LGA. The first time they’re putting mainline on the LGA route.
AA will have 2 738s to both ABQ and ELP. I think that’s the first time in a long time those 2 cities will be all mainline.
There’s some other nuggets like UA putting a 319 to DLH and 3 of 4 CHS flights will be mainline. Also FCA ( Kalispell) will be a 738.
I’ll keep looking to see if I can find anything else interesting.

Wow, so much news! I can't believe ORD is getting flights to New Zealand, that is amazing.

And now that the City Council voted in favor, no wasted time in shutting down 15/33!

Congrats to Chicago!

Not the FAA diagram yet, although they have now erased most of the former 14/32R and renamed the taxiway "C" (previously "U").

Same here, Planeboy.

I've been excited about the runway improvements over the years and look forward to the new modifications, but this is still a bit sad. :(

The first flight I can remember started on old 14/32R... in fact, a lot of long-haul trips originated for me on that runway. IIRC when Olympic served ORD in the 1990's, the first 747 I saw took off on 14/32R.

You can add one mainline flight on American to IND with a 738. :)

So they could be used for remote boarding, assuming they have the equipment (buses, etc) and space for transferring into the terminal?

Thank you for sharing.

The amount of Jumbo 747s they show at T5 compared to the new T2 makes me worried that the only airlines we will see at the international T2 is UA, AA and their select core partners. Other Star Alliance and One World airlines like LX, TK, QR & AY etc. will still be at T5. If that is the case, I think it is a huge mistake :(

That will depend on the design. Not sure if they have hired architects yet to design the buildings or if they had to wait until the bond was issued. If they did hire architects, I bet they aren't very far into the design process. T5 could be on a different track since that has already been in the works to some degree.

This wouldn't be a big deal if they would just connect T5 to T3 post security with an underground walkway or a two way bus for all passengers.

I sure hope not. I would at least hope Scandinavian and now ANZ will make it into the new T2. With that said however, the video on the new webpage did highlight the new Satellite 1 as being part of “a centralized area for international traffic”. All of Satellite 1 gates are heavy gates. Certainly United won’t be using all of those Heavy gates. Maybe this will create the capacity T2 needs to fit all SA and OW carriers in T2.

If memory serves me, I seem recall that the new Terminal 2 (or whatever it will be called) will provide space for all international flights for both Star and Oneworld partners, with enhanced T-5 for Skyteam and unaffiliated. Perhaps someone can confirm or contradict?

I'm passing through O'Hare this afternoon and from the UA club in T-2 I have a clear view of the southern end of 15/32 where crews have barricaded it off from traffic and are preparing it, I assume, for demolition or for remarking that section for taxiway use.

Incidentally, saw my first ORD Cape Air and KL 777 after taxiing in from my first 10R landing. A good day for an O'Hare fan.

Out of curiosity, what language is being spoken in the video? Polish?

Fun fact...I believe ORD will be tied with PDX and MSP for the most commercial passenger flights per day to the state of Alaska of any airport in the country not named SEA, with 5 each. MSP should be DL’s 3X MSP-ANC, SY’s 1X MSP-ANC, and DL’s 1X MSP-FAI. After that it should be PDX with 5X PDX-ANC (four frequencies on AS, one on B6).

I was thinking, could ORD regain the "world's busiest" status after the implementation of the O'Hare 21 project?

How does traffic landing on 10R cross 10L? Does the 10R traffic back track to taxiway DD like 10C?

Correct. Today we did 10R>Y>P>DD (or CC-not sure) and in to terminals. Its a long trek.
