That and RVR is down to 600-700. Probably the main reason EDV diverted since that’s way below their mins.

OZ 222 trying again. And in.

Issue is also RVR - Runway Visual Range. Only around 1000 feet and when combined with shear below threshold for some.

I should also note that JFK is inundated with fog and rain, leaving only the 22s as available for use with winds from the south.

AF22, SU100, and KE81 all landed on their second attempts after circling.

In another hour, the airfield will completely go to pot with heavy rains, which are already battering EWR.

I believe more snow is on tap for the NYC Area? Hopefully everything goes smooth than or we have a repeat of what happened last week.

All rain since it's about 60 degrees. However, tomorrow night, it dips back to 15 degrees. (All temps Fahrenheit.)

At least with diversions to Newark, passengers can choose to terminate there and take the train to NYC. This also underscores the need for a new Terminal A at EWR.

As if that's an 9E problem. That's Cat 3 category level ILS. Very few regional airlines are equipped for that

I'm sure if it was ATL it would all be Delta's fault too, since they control the weather down there as well. ;)

I’m well aware of that. I didn’t say they were the only one impacted by the low RVR. They were the only regional flight mentioned in the OP.

Generally CAT II and CAT III approaches are prohibited with reported wind shear.

If you are flying Delta mainline today from JFK, the great news is that your flight will very likely be operating. If you are flying on a DL regional today, please know that your flight was likely sacrificed to make said mainline flight operate and/or show optimal metrics. Please contact DL to rebook as, at best, your flight will be cancelled, but at worst you will be severely delayed and forced to spend hours of your time stuck inside the hell that is Terminal 2, or for the lucky few, crammed into a CRJ on the ramp.

I listened to the ATIS, didn’t hear LVP in force, and Wx at CAT1 minima. The b wind didn’t sound that bad, 190 18G24 with RW22L in use.

Why land to the south with a tail wind when they can land toward the north and still not interfere with LGA?

Looks like they sat at Dulles for 3 hours and went back to JFK, and after a few more circles are short final.

There is a break between lines right now so it looks like they are getting some of the diversions in, but all flights are held at origin until at least 6:30 eastern - so it is going to be a never ending night. What a horrible January in all ways for JFK.

Sitting in the back of the aircraft complaining that they had a middle seat and were uncomfortable, and that the in-flight crew
should be bowing down to them and giving them comped drinks for the inconvenience of a roller coaster ride.
