Copa Airlines is still promoting to São Paulo in two of their 738s as shown:

HP-1831CMP

Their safety cards and some articles posted within Panorama include the Portuguese language.

PTY also has signage in Portuguese, along with Spanish and English. Anyone who passed through PTY will have seen that as well.

Probably a Brazilian could answer this, Why is better for CM to be an sponsor of just São Paulo FC instead of all the Brasilerão?
B.T.W. CM is sponsor of MLB not a single team.

Maybe in the case of MLB, it could be because baseball is the national sport of Panama. Football is still growing, but going to the World Cup certainly helps its growth, but I presume baseball is still number 1 down in Panama. This certainly favours an engagement by a Panamanian company, especially CM, in more commercial partnerships in baseball than in football.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind my club, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (yes, I AM a liguista), to call CM one of its sponsors, but I believe they currently have Volaris as one of its sponsors.

CM is the official airline of the Panamanian Football Association. They even have a plane:

Thats just cause everyone is hyped for the World Cup, wait till we get Shalacked by Belgium in our opening game and you'll see about that airplane. The national baseball season just wrapped up last week "we won" 25k people showed to the final 2 games. I will say soccer is fashionable but baseball is still relevant.

There's quite a few Panamanians playing in MLB teams. That could be another reason why they sponsor it.

I was still in Germany back then, so I missed that. How long did that last anyway? I mean, fast forward 5 years and we all know Nature Air is pretty much done and shutting down.

Unfortunately Volaris Costa Rica is no longer an sponsor for L.D.A, they cancelled their commercial agreement just before starting this season, only Saprissa kept them as business allies. Information from a friend with knowledge inside of the team told me the deal between the airline and La Liga was not really beneficial for this last one. No idea to exactly what he meant about that.

I think it didn't last too much: no more than one year or so.
The only fact I can remember was a summer training, where that Twin Otter transported them to Punta Islita and back.

Most people complaining Viva is leaving BLB have no idea about that. They all think is a CM move to force Viva out of the Panamanian market.
However, in the news today, Panama Tourist Authority is trying to woo Viva to fly to ONX.

Does Colón ONX really provide proper conditions to attend this commercial flight ?
In terms of the distance to Panama City downtown, it seems too far to face all the airlines flying BOG-PTY.

Unless they want to lure people to the free zone in Colón, it's a one hour drive (in normal traffic) on the Panama-Colón expressway and part of the Corredor Norte. If you're taking one of the regular buses between the two cities, you'd end up in the Grand National Transportation Terminal in Albrook (which ironically is near PAC, with Albrook Mall between PAC and the bus terminal). I've passed by there a few times when I was in Panama City.

Wouldn't be that different from what we'd expect if the new SJO in Orotina would ever get opened. That being said, unless there are limiting factors that prevent it to happen, it would make more sense to fly to PAC than to ONX, unless it's what I said, to lure people to the free zone (or perhaps to one of the nearby national parks).

I need to take that ride myself whenever I'm back, just for kicks.

ONX terminal has all the features BLB lacks and it’s a much larger building.
Passengers and airlines shouldn’t neglect using ONX instead of BLB, because there are times during the day when it might be faster to get between ONX and certain areas of Panama City than between BLB and Panama City.

If you land half of the runway you will have issues with TGU, bad procedure by the pilot, it should be a go-around and a new attempt to land or go to you alternate airport, same problem was with Taca A320 and USAF C130 accidents in the past.
A 2KM runway is enough for yesterdays aircraft accident.

Don't really know if they are constructing the terminal in Sotocano.

Palmerola worked as temporary substitution of TGU for most airlines.
The lack of proper facilities there and poor ways of communications with the capital city detered the idea and TGU rapidly returned as its main airport.
I didn’t hear news about the new airport which is being constructed in Comayagua.

Lasted about 2 months and mainly used to take them to their training camp. It was in the news and frankly one of the most hideous looking things in the sky. I saw it while landing at Islita a couple of times. (Note: I'm a Limon fan, not an LDA, so not hating).

Considering the vast majority of those who travel by regional air transport within Costa Rica are foreigners, I don't think they'll really care if they see an LDA or Saprissa livery, cause they won't know what it is.

On the other hand I really wished that Volaris Costa Rica and Avianca would sponsor more of the local sports, not just football, but other sports as well. They would get some nice attention.

I don't think Palmerola was used as the alternate. Airlines landed in SAP and passenger where translated to Tegucigalpa on bus.
But that was 10 years ago and don't remember exactly.

Due to the construction strike it will open partially on Nov. But will fully open on May-June of next year.

The extension of the 2 line of the metro to the airport has not been started nor awarded to any company. But the licitation has started, so they need to evaluate and select the builders.

I thought they already have construction of the viaduct to PTY under way? When I was in a taxi on the way to PTY, and the guy took the Transístmica instead of the Corredor Sur (regular taxi, not airport taxi), I saw that some parts of the viaduct to Tocumen on Line 2 were well under way, some of them with the raw structures even done.

Indeed, most of the major structural work for the metro line 2 is at a very advanced stage. However, as Kilgen mentioned, in order to reach PTY airport, there is an extension loop of the metro line which hasn't been awarded (or started) yet. Basically, the metro line turns away from the airport at the entrance of the corredor sur highway. That will be the exchange point for the airport loop. As far as I know, there is no info on expected date for metro service all the way to the airport.

They have started the second line of the metro which will be open next year. But it did not have a direct connection to the airport.

The connection project is been scheduled to start as soon as a someone wins the construction bid.

How close will the line under construction be to the airport?

It's about 1.5Km between the metro line and the new terminal.
Perhaps only a connector would have been enough but the government wants the line 2 extended to the terminal, even if it's forbidden to ride the metro with suitcases/baggage.

Then they will have to change the rules, at least for line 2. In Hamburg, when they built the S-Bahn from Ohlsdorf to HAM, you'll see many people coming back and forth anywhere with luggage in the train. Then again, the S-Bahn in Hamburg (and in Berlin), while built like a metro, is legally considered heavy rail, while the U-Bahn (the actual metro) is legally considered a tram. But I also remember that there were no restrictions about luggage in the U-Bahn unless it was something extremely oversized (and these same regulations were valid for all companies running their services under the HVV banner, like Hamburger Hochbahn AG, S-Bahn Hamburg GmbH/Deutsche Bahn AG, etc.).

I could've saved myself 35 Dollars for the taxi ride from Vía España to PTY. When I took the taxi from PTY to Vía España after I arrived, I also paid 35 Dollars, so I would've saved a total of 70 Dollars and instead paid 35 Cents per ride if that line was operational today. My hotel was about 400 metres or so away from Santo Tomás station, plus I could've switched lines without paying the entire fare (or at least I would've just paid the difference if that line charges extra to/from PTY). Even the ride with one of the Corredores buses would've saved me a lot at 75 Cents per ride (but I believe the Corredores lines do not allow luggage either, so as of right now, you MUST pay for a taxi).

Looks like CM is going to start flying to PTY-PVR on Dec 16.

FromTwitter:

Taking bets that PVR was in some Brazilian Tour Operator wish list, either that or CM is going to ask something from Mexico and needs to show them some token route.

I think the journalist rather meant Riviera Nayarit.
The Riviera Maya is close to Cancun.

Looks like there is a possibility that CM will fly to Salta in Argentina. Looks like the Argentinian Government has granted authorization for Salta to Panama flights.

Two airlines have been mentioned: CM and Flybondi, but most likely is Copa.

From Twitter:
Radio 10 Salta @R10Salta
"Primero tiene que haber acuerdo bilateral de rutas aerocomerciales y recién se autorizan las rutas aéreas. Básicamente era #CopaAirlines y otra más. Son dos las líneas interesadas de volar y hacer la ruta #Salta - #Panamá", @JuanMLavallen #Turismo @GobiernoSalta

Great news for Northern Argentina.
IMHO, depending on how CM performs in SLA, there might be a possibility of PTY-TUC too.
