In terms of the distance to Panama City downtown, it seems too far to face all the airlines flying BOG-PTY.

Wouldn't be that different from what we'd expect if the new SJO in Orotina would ever get opened. That being said, unless there are limiting factors that prevent it to happen, it would make more sense to fly to PAC than to ONX, unless it's what I said, to lure people to the free zone (or perhaps to one of the nearby national parks).
I need to take that ride myself whenever I'm back, just for kicks.

Palmerola worked as temporary substitution of TGU for most airlines.
The lack of proper facilities there and poor ways of communications with the capital city detered the idea and TGU rapidly returned as its main airport.
I didn’t hear news about the new airport which is being constructed in Comayagua.

They have started the second line of the metro which will be open next year. But it did not have a direct connection to the airport.
The connection project is been scheduled to start as soon as a someone wins the construction bid.
