Very sad to report news that a Gulfstream G150 captain died at KTT airport (Kittilä, Finland) in a ground accident today Jan 4th, 2018. The aircraft door somehow hit the captain fatally when the captain was entering the plane.

The 150 doesn’t operate in the manner of your video. It doesn’t have the folding stair beyond the door.

There is speculation in the press that there was a malfunction in the door opening mechanism. Under normal operation, the door should not slam down.

I would presume it was very cold on the ground and while these aircraft are operated at temps greater that -40C at altitude, could be on the ground in very cold (likely -10C) ground temperature it meant certain components likely didn't work as they should. What a sad situation for the victim and their family.

All the mainstream has some additional details. Some of the information is incomplete or possibly incorrect , mostly about the exact owners or operator of this plane. But I recap some from two articles I chose.
The deceased was a 50 year old german national. No passengers were on board when this happened.
Plane flew passengers from Moscow and was supposed to fly to Jekaterinburg afterwards. No passengers on board when this happened. Temperature on the ground was around -23 celsius. One paper describes the door slamming had much force and airplane parts flying to 10 meters away. Ambulance was called. The Safety Investigation Authority of Finland is investigating this . Soon details will be released . If there is a full investigation it will take a lot longer.

This sounds very strange. Like there would have been a lot higher air pressure inside the plane, when the cap opened the door - causing the pressure to escape and smack down the door. Would this be theoretically possible to achieve with the plane's own airflow controls, or would it require an external source, like a small explosion of some kind?

I don't think one can really conclude that from the described articles (not saying it is not possible either ). Further it describes "loose parts or pieces" . So it is entirely possible only gravity was involved here.

There is speculation in the press that heating of the cabin combined with the cold weather outside could have created a pressure differential large enough to break the door's safety mechanism when opening the door. The accident investigators say that they don't know a similar incident either in Finland or elsewhere. Obviously we have to wait for the investigation results whether there is a design flaw, operation error and/or defect in question.

New information has come out. Nothing really groundbreaking or fully unexpected.

Technical investigation and testing done on the aircraft during 11th and 12th january. Pressure difference had a part in the accident. Further details are being looked into. That would be looking at the voice and data recorder , and take some statements. The operation , use and documentation of the pressurization will be looked at some more. Final investigation will be finished in 6 to 12 months.
The aamulehti newspaper article has more information than the short statement on the webpage of the Safety information authority. I get from that someone has talked to manufacturer of the aircraft. It also mentions the aircraft had been heated and that some valve has been tested and that the valve worked in those tests. And no technical fault as such has been found yet.
