Wed Jan 03, 2018 9:45 am

From the end of March, QR plans to deploy the A350 to ATL.

Wow. Was hoping for LAS to finally come, but it'll be hilarious to see DL's reaction to QR's A359 in ATL!

It’s good to see that QR got over its petulance with Airbus and the A350 to take more of them. For a brief while they switched the BOS flight to a 787-8 but over a month ago went back to the A359.

Looks like it will be an approx 20% reduction in capacity going from a 42J316Y 77W to a 36J247Y A359...

They probably figured a lower CASM aircraft = more $$$.

Why would DL fight back against QR flying a smaller plane to ATL?

Didn't ATL open the second A380 gate? $14M down the drain.

QR has 8 a380s. Why would you expect them to use one of those 8 to ATL??

I see. Why did they throw a temper tantrum when DL didn't give up the lone gate last minute?

That was a one off.

Regardless, QR throws temper tantrums repeatedly, its AAB's forte. Reading too much into a QR temper tantrum would be expecting QR to fly one of their 8 a380s to ATL of all places,

That's a capacity loss, but better for the customers with a better onboard product. I guess QR traffic to the US isn't what it used to be?

Will QR expect being able to use whatever gate the choose at the last minute lease contracts be damned?

had nothing to do with QR.

Had everything to do with the eventual plan of moving international operations off of E and converting the concourse to domestic use later in life.

More like a right-sizing. The A359/A35K is the perfect-sized plane for them for where the B788 isn't significant. That's a 94t (A359; 44t for the A35K) savings in landing weight and landing fees, and probably two FAs too. The A350 seat is also wider at 18" compared to 17" on the 3-4-3 B77W (the B788s are likely replacing the A332s that are being shifted to Meridiana).
