Has anyone noticed if due to the hurricane DL has sent any larger birds to North Carolina (RDU, CLT) or South Carolina ( CHS, MYR) to pick up the additional load fleeing the hurricane?

With the flexibility in DL's fleet I could see them sending some 757-300's | 767-300's or A330-300's on the routes to load up with as many pax as possible to get them out of the path of the storm?

Well nothing was listed in yesterday's Noteworthy Aircraft Activity, so unless there are some upgauges today, then it's probably too late now!

This is an interesting tidbit. N176DN is the 6th oldest 767 active in the DL fleet and its going for a new paint job. This means that DL plans to keep some of these oldest birds for a couple more years. Delivered 12/15/90. Almost 28 years old and will likely live to its 30th birthday and maybe more.

If anybody wants to see ship 1401 and 1402 side by side. Come out to SLC in the morning from 10 to 11 Gates D1 D3. You will see the last two domestic widebodies. The flight to ATL and HNL leave within an hour of each other.

You'll have to go soon - the ATL-SLC-HNL-SLC-ATL rotation gets upgauged to the 333 later this Fall.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

ATL-SLC-HNL is shifting to 763ER-low J on 10/1. The 763s then move to ATL-PDX/LAS as well as an evening ATL-SLC rotation.

For what it’s worth, I love this thread. Such cool updates and insight into equipment management at a global airline.

Any word when N706DN is done with mods? It's been in SIN for awhile.

It's going to be another 50-60 days before it is completed. Being the first LR, it has to go through STC activities. 7005 will be done before 7106.

I maybe wrong but it seems like a lot of A330-300 flights are being canceled lately... has DL been having maintenance issues with these birds on a fairly regular basis?

That would have been fun to see reaction of pax boarding shiny rebuilt Delta One 7HD for the short hop to and from Orlando from ATL instead of the expected 757.

What is the longest route DL is using the A330-300 on? JFK-TLV? Which is the 242T bird?

I come to really enjoy delta's A330 fleet. It's big and very dynamic, offering huge bang for the buck.

All within a few miles of eachother, JFK-TLV, LAX-CDG, LAX-AMS and LAX-HND. All operated by the HGWs.

I enjoy flying on the A330 as well very comfortable plane and the DeltaOne seats are the best besides the new suite product.

My question is why A330's often seem to get canceled a bunch recently I believe more commonly than the other fleet types.

DL usually puts some widebody aircraft on domestic routes around Thanksgiving. Has anyone noticed this to be the case yet this year and if so could you please post what routes/flight numbers they will be flying on?

I’m not sure what you’re gauging you’re concern on, but in looking back over the last couple of weeks the 330 fleet seems to have very few tech cancellations. Anecdotally from reading this excellent thread, the A330 fleet had a good number of irregularities in June. Things have calmed down a bit since then. My guess about the cause of ongoing irregularities that DL's A330 utilization is quite high, and the fleet operates out of (by my count) 9 U.S. gateway cities. So it is difficult to keep the few operational spares you have in the airports where you might need them. It doesn't help to have a spare in SEA if ATL-EZE goes tech. This has been a longstanding complexity of U.S. airline operations in general, where you have fleets spread across many large metropolitan areas. It is far more difficult than KL, for example, where all widebodies rotate through one airport - AMS. The only way to improve dispatch reliability is to temper utilization, but that comes with its own costs due to reduced productivity.

Yeah, I get the spares issue but your original question was about the 330 fleet getting cancelled more than others. From my observations, it’s more luck than anything. And what I mean by that is it seems airplane issues come in waves. Like there were a few major engine issues earlier in the summer, but there have been very few since and quite a while before that. Sometimes it can even come down to a particular airframe having issues, like I’ve seemed to see N1608’s number coming up a few times as having issues of different sorts. But it may not mean the whole 76T fleet is messed up.
