If anyone wants to see an A330 flying around without a winglet, 3317 had its left winglet removed due to a collision with an AF A330 in CDG a few days ago.

Today I noticed the summer ‘19 nonstop routes to HNL from both MSP and DTW were swapped from a 763ER to a 764ER. Delta seems to make numerous aircraft changes, even far in advance, on Saturdays (for whatever future days of the week) from my experience with them over the years. My question is why does Saturday seem to be the day for aircraft changes and is there some kind of computer algorithm that goes into the changes or are they all manual? Thanks in advance.

I'm interested in this info as well....seems like they tend to match capacity with demand as best as they could, but I would love to know how they do it

I'm an industry outsider, so take this with a grain of salt...

Delta and other major airlines have network planning and scheduling teams that work together to make sure the best aircraft are deployed on each route to match capacity with demand while fitting into fleet, facility, and performance constraints. The changes they decide on during the week get uploaded to GDS and their own booking systems over the weekend. It's normal for changes to the long haul network to happen much further in advance than changes to the domestic network: based on my observation over the years, the long haul schedule can be somewhat finalized 6 months out (with small tweaks here and there based on booking info leading up to the schedule), whereas the domestic schedules often don't get finalized until 1-3 months in advance.

That's my basic understanding of how things work. I'd love to know more about the process - e.g. do airlines tend to start with the largest aircraft in the fleet, figure out how to deploy them, and then work their way down, or is there some other process that they go through? I'd welcome some insider knowledge.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

1804 will be the prototype 764 to get the D1 suites and PE. Looks like it'll be inducted the first or second week of January and they'll be accomplished in CAN.

I see the first 77HB is in revenue service. Does anyone know when the next 77L frame will be headed to SIN for mods?

I also see it was used on a 77HD route which makes sense. My question is how many HB frames would they need to insert it into a 77L route (ie. LAX-SYD)

LAX>SYD unfortunately doesn't need a 7HB. The only route that needs a 7HB is ATL>JNB. However, with 10 77Ws, they are also flown to NRT, PVG and SYD.

LAX-SYD requires two frames to operate daily. Earlier it was mentioned that 3 77HBs should be available by summer, so I imagine they will be placed on LAX-CDG and LAX-SYD. Combined, those routes require 3 frames, and can be operated with a simple LAX-CDG-LAX-SYD-LAX routing with ample ground time at LAX.

Quick correction here...DL doesn't have any 77Ws, of course, as they are 772LRs.

Just as Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day for anybody who was in New England in the 60s and early 70s, Saturday is Delta schedule change upload day.

See enilria's regular schedule change threads.

basically all of this. I would put very very little stock into the summer schedule (as for as exact AC type, especially between the 763/764, 332/333 and 77E/77L) because it might change 100 times.

as FSdan said around 6 months is when things will because pretty set in stone, but Delta has been more aggressive with type changes (so again, 763/764, 332/333 and 777/77L ) lately.

as for MSP/DTW-HNL showing as a 764 now, it could be the forward looking bookings are stronger than expected, could be moving the slightly better J product of the 763 to another higher yield route or it could be that 2 764 routes look like crap in forward bookings so Delta is moving the 76Z with small J cabin over to those routes.

or it could be that Delta is just putting them in as default 764 routes with no actual thought of operating the 764 on them.

I wouldn't really even look at aircraft types of those routes till Feb/Mar.
