763ER-low J: unscheduled swap from high-J on CDG-BOS-CDG route (N394DL)

So this is how they are rotating the low-J B763 that does CDG-PIT-CDG and CDG-IND-CDG? Just replacing a high-J B763 that normally does BOS-CDG and putting a low-J frame on that route.

Why not just switch BOS-CDG to a low-J aircraft on a permanent basis if it gets swapped so often? Seems like it would make more sense, especially if they are using that route to get the aircraft necessary to operate PIT and IND from CDG.

Anyone know why DL2793 (MCO-ATL) was upgraded to a 77L tonight?

Actually these swaps are temporary and unscheduled. The IND/PIT-CDG flights rotate in the system through SLC where the CDG/AMS swaps occur.

Just for a little clarification, the MSP diversion on the 77L was not for a medical but for a crew change after a 4-hour delay at AMS. Per posters in other threads, 777 crew deadheaded in from DTW to MSP. The SYD-LAX flight cancelled due to a lightning strike, which in turn caused the cancellation of the Paris turn out of LAX. DL is stretched thin on most widebody fleets this summer and we are seeing fairly regular operational irregularities due to few operational spares.

I believe this flight diverted to BDL because of WX. BDL also saw a couple B6 A321 diversions and a E190 come through close to 10pm.

This cancellation was due to some sort of labor issue going on in EZE.

very little slack in the fleet during the summer schedule to allow for military charters. look for them to return in the fall.

With the first 772 back from D1mods, any idea when the first 77L starts? I see N702DN went to SIN for maintenance is that to include cabin mods?

It ferried there due to having been hit by lightning at SYD. It's doubtful if DL can spare it for a two month + mod visit also.

Ship 7004 (the first 7HB in the 28C/48F/220Y configuration) will be flying DL72/28Jun ATLAMS and back as DL73 on 29Jun, subbing in for the regularly scheduled 77L

Correct me if I’m mistaken but I believe this is the first revenue service for 7004 since the mods!

With the first 772 back from D1mods, any idea when the first 77L starts? I see N702DN went to SIN for maintenance is that to include cabin mods?

It ferried there due to having been hit by lightning at SYD. It's doubtful if DL can spare it for a two month + mod visit also.

It's now ferrying from SIN>NRT, so it was just a quick visit to check on the lightning strike(s).

I was just at FUK and I saw the DL bird sitting near gate 56 and was wondering what the deal was. I know they dont RON at FUK. Will DL fly two FUK to HNL's or ferry N180DN somewhere else? I actually got a picture of N180DN at FUK this morning but not quite sure how to post it on here.

Two questions.

1. Will DL order more A350’s? It seems they are happy with the plane and 25 is a small amount. I could see it replacing most of their 772’s eventually and becoming the backbone of their wide body fleet.

2. Will DL ever reconsider the 788? Not quite sure why they don’t fly this one. It would make a lot of sense on routes such as the recently announced MSP-ICN as well as their p2p TATL routes.

First 77L (7106 N706DN) is scheduled for September once the heavy summer season ends.

Also heads up for everyone, the first midlife reconfigured 77E, 7004 N863DA, will be flying it’s first revenue flight today, DL1775 ATL-LAX.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but I believe this is the first revenue service for 7004 since the mods!

It looks like it's doing a domestic round-trip revenue flight from ATL>LAX>ATL today/tomorrow, with the ATL>AMS>ATL flights today/tomorrow having disappeared:

Delta only has firm deliveries scheduled for 15 A350s. The remaining 10 are deferred indefinitely, and may end up being converted into different aircraft. Until those 10 are accounted for, I would not anticipate any additional A350 orders.

The 788 is extremely unlikely at this point, as the existing A330 and 777 fleets are adequately equipped for the international routes Delta flies. Delta doesn't have much interest in long range P2P flights, instead preferring to route passengers through partner hubs. It is also too much aircraft for TATL 767 replacements, which is why there is so much interest in the NMA/797 development.

What is their widebody strategy going forward? Are they going to try and simplify their fleet down to a few types like AA, or are they going to fly a bunch of different widebody types?

I don't buy that the 788 is too much plane for TATL routes, BA/AA use the 788 on TATL and do just fine. The 789 I would understand, but the 788 is perfect for TATL. It all depends on how they configure it. It also could be used for some of their Asian routes that are too small for a A350/777, such as MSP-ICN and perhaps a hypothetical route like SLC-ICN.

Anything further than 5 years down the road is pure speculation. In that time frame, the only RFP likely to come in will the replacement of some of the remaining 763ERs that will not be replaced by the 339s that start coming in the next 18 months. And DL has been pretty clear about those. Its going to be the NMA unless Boeing screw things on either price or overdevelopment. All the other widebodies are young and have plenty of life in them.

Strategy wise, you're looking at the following for the foreseable future:
763ER-low J: low premium routes (Hawaii, thin TATL, thin South America)
763ER-high J: higher premium thin TATL routes + some NYC-LAX/SFO
332: thin longer range routes (i.e. the DTW-NGOs of this world)
764: TATL/South America/NYC-LAX&SFO routes
772: higher volume routes (TATL/Asia)
77L: deep long routes (JNB/SYDs of this world)
333: high-volume TATL routes & some South America
339: West Coast-TATL/Asia to start off and then like the 333
359: East Coast-Asia mainly

Not all the 76Ls are being converted to 76Z. AFAIK, none of the N---DN registrations are being converted. Here's the list of those already converted, with the aforementioned two to follow at the end of 2018.
N169DZ, N171DZ, N172DZ, N173DZ, N174DZ, N175DZ, N176DZ, N177DZ, N178DZ, N1603, N1604R, N1605, N16065 (2018), N1200K (2018), and N1201P.

My point is just that. We (F/A’s) are being told they are ALL being converted to 76Z config. I just didn’t remember the time line for completion. Thanks

Figures they told you guys wrong. There's only 2 .ore tails left for us to complete. Network didn't want to spend the extra money buying more seats and closets to convert the rest.

I finally found the recent memo. (June 28) It was about adding a extra jump seat to the 767 fleet and in the memo it states that mods will begin 2019 through 2021. In the memo it stated that the 76L will be converted to the 76Z and will have the third J/S added during this modification. In reading this, it sounds like by the end of this upcoming mod there will be no 76L configuration (by the 2021) Either by mods or retirement.

Could well happen. the remaining 76L aircraft will be some of the oldest 763ERs left in the fleet and most likely to be those replaced by the first 339s to be delivered by 2021. there are currently 15x 76Ls. 13x after the remaining conversions. 11x after the two to be retired end of this year.
