I believe it's a rescue flight for a HNL-NGO flight that went tech in HNL.

Yup, that looks to be the culprit (DL611 HNL-NGO was indeed canceled: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL ... /PHNL/RJGG).

I did notice that DTW - LHR was something like six hours late. Perhaps this is the flight that went? People could not have been happy to be leaving at 1 in the morning.

I think the answer sits somewhere in the middle. The prototype just finished and is now stretching its legs. DL probably didn't know for sure how long each would take until now so did a lot of "plugs" in the schedule between 76L and 76Z. I think we'll see the schedule now tighten up as they figure out how many they want/can complete pre-summer. In terms of routes, i'd look at SEA-AMS, SLC-CDG, ATL-SCL, ATL-BRU, JFK-ACC, JFK-BRU & BOS-CDG. There are all routes that are "migrating" from 76L to 76Z. Timing of those migrations likely to be adjusted to reflect conversion schedule.

At last count I had 13 frames to be completed by June 1st.

That lines up with the loaded schedule. If that holds, there will be 16 76Ls and 33 76Zs in June. So utilization would be 15/16 76Ls and 32/33 76Zs, which leaves one spare frame for each subfleet.

Instead of taking four A330-900neos next year, Delta will take none. This is likely due to Delta becoming the launch customer of the 251 tonne A330-900neo, making the A350-900 redundant on many of its current and future routes such as LAX-PVG. So I'm expecting maybe one, possibly two new Trans-Pac routes next year, most likely some shuffling with KE as I'd be shocked if the ROK Government denies the DL-KE JV.

I am surprised by the decision to delay the 339 in order to get the 251t version. I thought that the 339 deliveries would in part be replacing 763 flying, which made the 339 desirable because it is lighter and cheaper than the 359. If they make the 339 do 359 flying, then what happens to the 763 long haul operation? SEA-PVG on the 763 in the year 2030?

The 763 is becoming/has become the new DC9. Looks like the 797 can’t come soon enough for DL.

Delta 275 returned to gate in DTW with a seat belt problem in business class. I know this for fact as I am on the plane now. And hoping to make my connection to the Manila flight or they hold the flight. I guess there is 70 people on this flight going to Manila.

Not even close. NW's DC-9-30/40 fleet averaged close to 40-years-old when NW began to phase out the type, and many made it past that milestone before the fleet type was gone. DL's 763ER average 21.5 years, nearly half as young.

DL took delivery of a large number of late model 763/764 for its domestic network, which were eventually moved into long-haul use. Do not confuse the type being old with the planes being old...

Well, maybe some of Delta’s 767 fleet will be over 30-years-old before they’re phased out, maybe replaced by the 797.

N504DN operated the first A350 flight, DL27, from ATL>ICN earlier today. This replaces the B772ER/LR which previously operated the route.

Flew this on 3/23 on the 7:25AM from ATL-MSP which was the 753 sub from day prior. ~100 empty seats, wish I had skipped the Comfort+ upgrade and sat in the back somewhere to take a whole row to myself. This was one worn out and tired 763 - guessing she is nearing retirement.

Doesn't the 772 have the old IFE and seats vs the A332?

The 772s have the Herringbone seats which all face inwards, away from the windows, and are a different make from those in the A332s/333s. The first one to have the D1 Suites installed has been at SIN for five weeks already, and may be there for another two more months! I'n not sure what the difference is between the IFE in the current 772s vs the A332s/333s.

Utilizing an increased MTOW aircraft on JNB-ATL won't help, that flight is performance limited due to the high field elevation at JNB.

Can anyone tell me what N180DN is doing? I frequently fly to MNL, about every month or two, and we have had 763ERs for sometime now. I like to track the tail #s of each plane I have been on, but last Tuesday I fell asleep before jotting down that number. So going through FlightAware today trying to find the tail #, having to copy and paste the whole fleet and when doing so I came across N180DN. Last flight was from Provo, UT (PVU) to Colorado City, AZ (AZC) last Tuesday. I am intrigued as I live in the Provo area and can tell you that there is hardly any widebody aircraft, let alone anything larger than an A319 ever coming in or out of that airport. First thought was maybe a BYU or UVU athletic charter, but there is no collegiate team in Colorado City, nor is there a large enough athletic team at either of those schools besides BYU football that would require a widebody 763ER. Anyone have a clue?

However FR24 is showing no flights since it arrived at CAN for a heavy mx check over three weeks ago! I would tend to believe FR24 on this info, rather than FlightAware!

Thanks audiaudi! Makes sense to me. Where does Delta send for mx checks? I know CAN, but what other airports? Is SBD do any mx checks or just storage? What about AMA?

Widebody checks these days occur mainly in CAN, PVG, SIN, QPG, ATL, MSP, ILN. Widebody painting also at AMA.
As for your other query, DL does fly a number of military charters to non commercial fields including Colorado Springs. Perhaps that what you saw.

This must be an error? Especially if you look at the altitude and speed of the flight... Doesn't match up with a 767, and a 767 couldn't make that flight in 26 min either...

There isn't even a DL flight # associated with the FlightAware link I posted, so I believe it was bogus!

On a side note, I noticed Delta's annual report released last month showed they will take only two A350-900s next year and two more in 2020. I remain sceptical Delta will take more A350-900s unless they are replacing the 77L fleet, which is very unlikely, as Airbus officially confirmed they are raising the MTOW on the A330-900neo from 242 tonnes to 251 tonnes, allowing the A330-900neos to fly on routes as long as ATL-NRT.

It was never likely the 339 would be replacing the 763 directly on most routes. I do think SEA-ICN/PVG/PEK will move from the 767 to 339 but the majority of the 339 "replacing" the 767 will come from the 339 replacing 333s which replace 764/332s which replace 763s.

On top of that the 251t 339s gives Delta the ability to add capacity to its newest JV hub in ICN to a big chunk of the US. Example, MSP-ICN(and HND) should be easily doable for the 339.

Quick question on 777 rotations. How are they getting the airplane onto the CDG-SEA-HKG operation? I figured they would rotate it through CDG from either DTW or ATL, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have the same question about MSP-HND. I see above that there is a schedule upgrade from MSP-SEA. Will we see this regularly to get airplanes between operations?

Its currently getting rotated through the odd scheduled/unscheduled upgrades on MSP-SEA flights as well as ferry flights on the same segment. Not great but it works.

I noticed this too, they seem to have 3 isolated routes when you include ATL-NRT. The MSP-HND cycles to LAX also.

ATL-NRT is a 77L route (despite the current 772 unscheduled swaps due to unscheduled maintenance on N703DN) and rotates nicely on a ATL-NRT-JNB-ATL-LAX-PVG-DTW-PVG-LAX-SYD-LAX-ATL cycle. The 772 routes do remain segregated with MSP-HND-LAX-HND-MSP and SEA-CDG-SEA-HKG-SEA.

Oops, yep sure enough, like you say the 77E has been subbing a bunch for the L and I guess I assumed it was assigned to the route. It looks like SEA-CDG is going to a 76T this fall and HKG will remain a 77E for the foreseeable future. Do you happen to know how they’ll cycle the planes into SEA once this happens or are they just going to leave a couple of planes on that route and do occasional swaps?

Quick question on 777 rotations. How are they getting the airplane onto the CDG-SEA-HKG operation? I figured they would rotate it through CDG from either DTW or ATL, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have the same question about MSP-HND. I see above that there is a schedule upgrade from MSP-SEA. Will we see this regularly to get airplanes between operations?

Its currently getting rotated through the odd scheduled/unscheduled upgrades on MSP-SEA flights as well as ferry flights on the same segment. Not great but it works.

In the summer schedule, the routing should be MSP-HND-LAX-HND-MSP-CDG-SEA-HKG-SEA-CDG-MSP.
