What a silent and boring year in terms of aircraft orders or even rumours

G'day

Nothing unexpected or exciting, but still  - Lufthansa converted options for 24 Airbus A320neo and three A321neo aircraft into firm orders, delivery in 2023 and 2024. 7 A320neos and 3 A321neos are destined for Swiss.

Seems like LH is buying more A320neo with confidence even though with PW issue! Good to see they are buying both CFM and PW now.

Anyone has final figures how many neo (both A320neo and A321NEO) LH Group has ordered collectively, breakdown for each member airline and how many have been delivered and pending delivery?

The 320neo continues to sell well. The widebody portfolio has not had the same luck this year. That gap that the 330neo is supposed to fill looks that much bigger right now.

The A321neo has passed the 2000 orders mark. One in three NEO orders is already an A321 (32,8%).
In the previous generation, the A321 accounted for only 22% of CEO orders.

So it turns out the top-up order for five A350-1000s placed by Qatar appears to be the long range variant.

If I calculate it correctly there were also 15 cancelations. 7 should be for the 787 as the net total ordera for the 787 only increased by 8.

It was a puzzle because there were plenty of UFO to revealed and revealed to UFO transactions, but these were the 787 cancellations last month:

cancelations:
China Development Bank: -6 787-9
GECAS: -1 787-9

changes:
Avolon to UFO: 1
CIT to UFO: 1
UFO to Bank of Communications Leasing: 1
UFO to China Eastern: 4
UFO to Hainan: 5

I'm not looking at the 737 cancellations, too much work.

Kind of unusual for GECAS to cancel a 787...would seem they could place it, no? Also, CDB just ordered this 787s last year.

This was actually already announced in August, it was even posted in this thread, but I forgot that I had read it. The 787s were to be converted into 22 737 MAX according to the Flightglobal article that was the source.
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/artic ... 8s-451012/

That might have changed into 21 737 MAX, as that is the number of the September UFO MAX order.

AS for the 1 787 cancellation by GECAS, it could indeed have gone to Boeing Capital.

767 also out sold the A330 and A350. Boeing is killing it in the Wide Body sector.

I was wondering if there was an excel sheet or monthly numbers for older A320 orders since I couldn't find a way to access historical data (from 2008 to 2013) on their website. Apologies for going off topic, I need the sales data for my master's project.

Airbus gives historical full year orders from 2006 on their website: https://www.airbus.com/aircraft/market/ ... eries.html

Download the O&D Airbus Commercial Aircraft September 2018 file and one of the sheets in the excel file is historic orders.

If you need historic monthly data best bet is probably to go to Wikipedia’s A320 orders and deliveries page and look at its history (click view history next to search bar on upper right of page) and see how it changes every month. That will be time consuming and may not always be 100% accurate but the easiest way to get historic monthly data that I can think of at this time.

In part because of freighters.

Although the 787 is proving successful on its own as a passenger widebody. But it seems all the older models find new life as freighters.

Is Airbus not being as aggressive or are airlines not able to get delivery spots from Airbus because of full order books?

Out of all the wide body aircraft on the market the A330 should have the most near term delivery slots available.

I suspect Boeing is being very aggressive with 787 pricing, which to a degree destroys the economics of the A330, whilst at the same time makes it better value than the A359.

If we consider Boeing have only sold 100 passenger variant wide bodies and Airbus is around the 50 orders mark, both OEM's have a long way to go to support wide body production at ~350 deliveries per year.

8 frames total delivered at less than 1 per year is hardly huge but much needed for Airbus.

Kuwait order includes:

10 B77W
15 A320NEO
8 A338
5 A359

I believe that all the deliveries for the total order will happen between 2019 and 2026,

I think it's old information mixed with new order, the 10 77Ws they had on order with Boeing have already been delivered to the airline.

To clarify, the 10 77W and 15 A320neos are not new orders, nor have they ordered 5 more A350s. Kuwait has/will convert 5 of their current A350 order (out of 10) to 8 A338s. KU’s future fleet will as of now consist of 10 77Ws (all delivered), 15 A320neos (previous order), 8 A338s (new conversion), and 5 A359 (remaining from previous order).

Interesting conversion, and good news for Airbus. I'd be very curious to know the financing details. I'd think 359s (or 339s) would be far easier to finance than 338s, either through lease or purchase.

Perhaps KU pay in cash - or oil!

This is unclear if this will result in a new order via leasing companies

Pobeda has agreed to lease 20 737MAX8, 15 from SMBC and 5 from GECAS, some of these frames could potentially include the 737MAX200

Boeing seems to have stopped using the MAX 200 moniker. The frames must now just be MAX 8s with an extra pair of doors behind the wing.

Yes this is correct, no more MAX200. Sometimes referred to as a “high capacity” MAX 8 now. Currently only Ryanair and VietJet have firm orders for it I believe. Possibly another smaller carrier.

According to Reuters, Vietjet signed an agreement today for 50 A321neo during the french Prime Ministers visit in Hanoi.
This is supposed to be a firm order after the MoU signed at Farnborough last summer, but we better wait for Airbus confirmation of that.

"HANOI, Nov 2 (Reuters) - VietJet Aviation VJC.HM signed a $6.5 billion agreement on Friday to buy 50 Airbus AIR.PA A321neo jets, the Vietnamese budget carrier said.
The agreement, signed during a visit to Hanoi by French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, is part of aggressive investment in the Vietnamese airline's fleet, which has provided lucrative business for both European aerospace group Airbus and its U.S. rival Boeing"

Confirmed by Airbus:

Vietnamese carrier Vietjet has placed a firm order with Airbus for an additional 50 A321neo single aisle aircraft, finalising an MOU signed at the Farnborough International Airshow last July.

With last two months of 2018 to go, B has three times as many net orders as A, can we give the winner trophy to Boeing already?
