Interesting who and when decides that an order logged in the books "may" not be delivered. Not surprised by the criteria applied seeing the numbers though.

Both Airbus and Boeing log orders that don’t always turn out. Them having a larger order book is in their interest. Airbus generally the worse offender. For example the Iran Air order has been booked by Airbus but not Boeing and likely to be cancelled within the next few months. Among others have been ordered and removed with no real chance of a delivery. Also the 400+ A320neo on order by Indigo from an airline with a current fleet of 150 relatively new aircraft also seems dubious. If I were a betting man I bet they don’t take all those aircarft. A few other too but I can’t think of off the top of my head.

Bloomberg reporting Airbus is the favorite for the Vistara single aisle order worth $6.6 billion.

Good if this turns out to be true. A little bit of both: NB Airbus and WB Boeing. But to be honest everything is being speculated now. Let's hold our breath till official announcement.

BTW, anyone has A320neo Vs. Boeing 737Max family breakdown? I lost track with recent orders.

Airbus Total: 6090 (318 Delivered)
A319neo: 56
A320neo: 4104 (277 delivered)
A321neo: 1930 (41 delivered)

Boeing Total: 4504 (120 Delivered)

No precise breakdown on model as Boeing lists all as B737MAX

MAX 7: 58
MAX 8: 2336 (119 Delivered)
MAX 9: 136 (1 Delivered)
MAX 10: 407
Undisclosed: 1567

Also the Boeing Breakdown is up until April 2018. Airbus is up to May 2018.

Also keep in mind, especially for A320neo, there are airlines with 400+ on order that may not all get delivered from both manufacturers.

Thank you very much for the breakdown.

Surprised.... A319neo and B737MAX7 are still alive with 56 and 58 orders respectively.

It might take several years before Airbus will remove IranAir order from order logbook just like Iraqi Airways order for five A310 despite the production line has closed for several years. Few more comes to mind Kingfisher Airlines A345 and A380, Virgin Atlantic A380.

Like what Prost have mentioned some airlines log a huge order to lock in favourable production slots and turn over their fleet every 10-12 years. AirAsia funneled some of their A320 delivery to its leasing subsidiary and leased back to mainline service, build up the fleet and sold off the subsidiary for USD1.18 billion recently.

If a down payment has been made with the order, it makes certain difficulties to take the order of the books. That is usually the difference between a firm order and the rest. Even option can involve a payment. If a company like Kingfisher goes bankrupt, the order can be a part of the bankrupt's estate. Their are accountancy rules regarding this.

Why cant this topic be kept solely for aircraft orders ? When this topic pops up, when I click on it, I just want to see an aircraft order announcement, nothing else. Why this cant be ?

I know it my be slightly wishful thinking but it could be CI (China airlines) order for additional A350s. They have nearly completed an order of 14 aircraft and they Did put their B777-300ERs on sell and re-lease a few years ago. The number 15 is at the higher end of what I thought they could order but realistic to replace 10 B777s in 5-6 years and also planes for some expansion. Their new route to ONT really needs a A350 not a B777. The only thing that didnt sound right was the expectation to order some A350-1000s. But definately capacity above 315 seats is a big no no for them almost all their routes are quite thin out of Taipei.

We might want to brace ourselves for more A350 cancellation. AirAsia X will definitely cancel their 10 A359 on order since they have 66 A330neo on order. Is a matter of when it happen, not will it happen.

Didn't HNA Group or something recently order 15 A350s? Could this be them being firmed?

Yes it is. HNA ordered 15 for Hainan. Don't know why people are speculating others or even a whole thread on this being for Virgin Australia which is ridiculous.

If the past few months has been any indication than May’s number will probably be released on the 12th. Boeing seems to be releasing their monthly numbers on the second Tuesday of each month.

From last week, Ural Airlines signed a lease deal with SB Leasing Ireland for the MAX 8.

"Russia’s only all-Airbus operator signs for 14 Boeing 737MAXs"

Some other articles suggest it's a new order with Boeing, either by Ural Airlines or SB Leasing, but because of the conflicting reports it's hard to confirm without any official confirmation from the parties involved.

Is this lease for fleet replacement or addition to current A320 fleet? If it is fleet replacement, good job on Boeing in flipping an all-Airbus customer. Second Russian customer after S7 Airlines.

I think the BOC Aviation 787 order was another order transfer. 6 UFO 787s matches the reports about Vistara, but they were said to be looking between the 789 and 787-10. The 2 788s suggest it is probably a top off from an existing 788/789 customer.

There are 3 seperate unidentified 787 orders. 2 for 1 787-8, both with RR engines and 1 for 4 787-9s with GE engines.

1 of the Unidentified 737 MAX orders is for 14, it's probably the Ural order mentioned above.

The BOC 787 order is indeed another transfer from Air Europa, they cancelled 3.

How the heck does Boeing find 20 delivery slots of a best-selling widebody in two years for a non blue-ship customer? I know there's a rate increase but, holy sh*t that's a fast delivery schedule!

As P & T noted, probably EY, Their first order of 41 787 have 20 delivered, so 20 frames delivered in 2 years. So EY has likely deferred to a far off time or has cancelled all that can be cancelled of that order.

I think the point is more of why a “blue chip” airline / important Boeing customer didn’t get the likely EY slots over Bamboo. Maybe Bamboo paid more, who knows.

Maybe EY sold the slots directly to Bamboo. With boeing only announcing the change.

Agreed, a good week for Boeing but it makes me wonder if Boeing has any orders left for announcement during the FAS. Maybe the three orders announced this week is only a teaser and they have something big up their sleeves.

Maybe EY sold the slots directly to Bamboo. With boeing only announcing the change.

Airlines generally can’t sell their production slots to other airlines. They are Boeing/Airbus’s slots, not the airline’s.

How the heck does Boeing find 20 delivery slots of a best-selling widebody in two years for a non blue-ship customer? I know there's a rate increase but, holy sh*t that's a fast delivery schedule!

Companies constantly have to balance existing vs new customers. The argument could be made that a brand new, previously Airbus only customer is equally as important as an existing customer. And if the slots are coming from deferrals it's not like an existing customer is being bumped from the established delivery schedule.

The article clarifies that the undisclosed customers for the A359 and A32Xneo are both new customers, but does not offer the same clarification for the undisclosed A339 customer. Go figure.

Or to replace the ones that Level took on behalf of IB?

For LEVEL, IAG has announced that they will grow the LEVEL fleet of A330-200s to seven in 2019.

Boeing revealed their monthly numbers, but the user defined report is still stuck in May. So it's hard to make a detailed break down of the orders. But they booked some large 737 orders, including 1 for 75 737 by Boeing Capital.

Boeing booked:

75 737- BCC
1 737- BBJ
11 76F- FX
9 77F- FX
75 737- Unknown
20 737-unknown
30 737-unknown
2 76F- unknown
10 77F- unknown

All 737s Maxes. All unknown orders placed on different days (so 76F and 77F orders unlikely to be related).

One of those 75 737 orders is probably Jet Airway’s. 10 77Fs for QR? I’m guessing a lot will be revealed next week.

A part of the Fedex order was already booked last year. Could they also behind the other unidentified order for 10 777F?

Fedex ordered 9 777s and 11 767s last month. They are not going to order 10 more 777s (12 days before they placed their known order btw) and not tell anyone. They would have revealed it with the other 9 they ordered.
