It was really a collaboration on refreshing VN's widebody fleet in which Boeing suggested VN order eight 777-8 and eight 787-10. In the end, VN decided not to add additional planes and instead converted eight of their outstanding 787-9 orders to 787-10.

Last December VN launched a new RFP for four frames between the 777X and the A350-1000 to start a non-stop service between SGN and LAX. VN also noted that their decision to order both the 787-9 and A350-900 was driven in part by political considerations to help address their balance of trade with the US and the EU as Vietnam is a major exporter to both areas. The FAA is also expected to grant FAA Category 1 status by May 2018 which will allow Vietnamese carriers to launch US services.

#VietnamAirlines has preliminary deal for @BoeingAirplanes #777X. Specifically, 777-8s.

Is there a news article for this?

I was under the impression that Boeing made an offer for 778s and 787-10s that Vietnam Acknowledged. There was never a signed MOU.

Perhaps Boeing can issue a press release on the matter, that would clear things up.

I know its an order thread but correct me if I am wrong but I think Qantas did just let some 787 options expire?

Yes they have decided to let one of their 787-9 options expire rather than convert it to an order in the interests of reducing CAPEX as they are also looking at an A321neo order for Jetstar.

Ah yes, now I remember.

This latest RFP for just 4 aircraft is quite odd as VN also selected 280t A350s for US service.

They are probably going to end up taking both the 777x and the a350 once they get their clearance to the U.S....

Airbus orders for January:

5 A320ceo (Spirit Airlines)
15 A320neo (CALC)

5 cancellations for A320neo

27 deliveries, incl 4 A350-900s and 2 A330-300's

http://www.airbus.com/aircraft/market/o ... eries.html

On a passing note I think that means NEO sales just passed 6000 frames.

I thought Sichuan already had A350s coming or is this a topup? Is this the first order between Airbus and Boeing?

The two frames A350-900 MSN52 and 55, NTU SriLankan, intended for Sichuan, are owned by AerCap.

So this 10 frames could be a direct order from Sichuan.

More on the Sichuan A350 deal:

Note that Sichuan signed A350 lease contracts in 2017 (3x Aercap + 1x ALC), this one is a direct order with Airbus for 10 aircraft.

Almost certainly. They're cheaper without engines but much less useful.

True. Although it appears EK hasn't decided on which type yet, according to the article posted.

As with all Trent 900 operators, Emirates' are "leased" under Rolls-Royce TotalCare support contracts and Emirates also uses GE OnePoint to support their GE90 and upcoming GE9X fleets. However, I can find no references to the GP7200s being under such a contract so I am assuming EK buys them outright and Engine Alliance has built a GP7200 MRO in Dubai (the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre) to maintain them.

Rolls is said not to be interested in any major PiPs to the Trent 900 post EP3 whereas Engine Alliance has said they are willing to do so if Emirates' picks them, so that might be playing a role. EK is also evidently paying more for their Trent 900s than they were for GP7200s per a Bloomberg report.

probably the same customer switching to MAX
note the 737 allocations on the Boeing page reflect 10 NG which are the P-8s, the 1 Max is probably a typo and should be 17 max

considering how long it took Boeing to publish the page such sloppiness is maddening

Those 737 numbers are net orders - the 10 737NGs are the 7 P-8s for the USN and 3 P-8s for the UK, and the 1 737MAX would appear to be the BBJ.

The unidentified order for 17 looks to be an order transfer from one customer to another and not a NG to MAX conversion. The MAX total only went from 4306 to 4307.

I had a look at all the orders, the Jet Airways order went down by 17 in January compared to December, it went from 71 to 54 (which was already down from the original 75) They might have already transferred some to a leasing company which will lease them back to the airline.

The Eastern Airlines order for 10 MAX is now also gone in the January update, which is only logical since the airline is gone. But I can't find were the order went as it was not booked as a cancellation. The unidentified orders went up by 17 from 805 to 822, but that was the Jet Airways transfer. I couldn't find any other changes. Something is missing here and I can't figure out where. Maybe someone else can have a look at all the numbers.

The two frames A350-900 MSN52 and 55, NTU SriLankan, intended for Sichuan, are owned by AerCap.

So this 10 frames could be a direct order from Sichuan.

Question: in such case where the original intended operator scrapped an order, do these ntu birds get delivered in their original customer interior? Or the cabin in stripped out and re-done?

Did they already have about 20 odd on order?

Nice to see the A330neo gaining some orders. They picked off a few small orders torward the end of 17.

Sri Lankan transferred these over to aercap after it was too late to straight up cancel, but prior to final assembly. It's possible they just simply didn't install the original interior. But I don't know that for sure, it just sounds logical to me.

Airbus' sales summary of February:

Headlining the new business was Emirates’ firm order for 20 A380s, reaffirming this United Arab Emirates-based carrier’s commitment to the jetliner programme and underscoring its role as the aircraft’s largest customer. Deliveries of these latest-ordered A380s for Emirates will start as early as 2020, securing a sustainable production rate of six aircraft annually during the next 10 years.

The other transaction in February involved 20 A320neo jetliners for an unidentified customer.

A lot happening in the conversions and cancellations area for Airbus. Virgin’s A380s gone, Hawaiian’s A330-800s gone and the last A350-800s converted to A350-900s by Asiana, who also converted one of their A350-1000s.

Regarding Asiana, they seem to have converted the 8 A350-800 and one A350-1000 to A350-900. Now 4 A350-900 in operation and 17 A350-900 and 9-1000 still on order.

Can we call this a cleanup of the orderbook, after Leahy left?
The A350-800 was very clearly canceled by Airbus when they launched the A330NEO.
Is it correct that Virgin converted their A380 orders into A35K orders?

It's a bit odd that the 8x A380 for Qantas (orders 20, deliveries & operational 12) are still in the orderbook.
Most likely they weren't ready to cancel or convert the remaining A380 orders.

Yes the A358 has been formally cancelled by Airbus a long time ago so it was inevitable.

Virgin had no intentions of taking A388 after A35K and I believe some deposits were transferred. Maybe Airbus wanted a net positive month on the A388 and after Emirates order this month it is still net positive rather than a -6 in the order book??

As for Qantas they have stated on numerous occasions that those last 8 orders will not be taken. They will be formally cancelled at some point no doubt.

The new Airbus sales chief believes that big orders for the A350-1000, its latest widebody, are near. “I have always been convinced that the A350-1000 will be a great success,” he said. “The market is likely moving to a decision point in massive campaigns from large customers,” Schulz predicted.

Any guesses about these massive campaigns? BA? JAL? AF/KL?

BA and JAL have already ordered the A350-1000 so I don't see them ordering more in the near future, especially as neither have any yet.

A piece in today's flight global suggests that Virgin Atlantic might be looking for more than its current order for 12.

It says it is "in discussions" to acquire additional A350-1000s, as it prepares to introduce the first of its current batch of 12 from spring next year.

It seems like Air Lease Corp (ALC) is the only lessor with A350-1000 orders, so unless VS is leasing from ALC, I'd say it's going to be incremental orders for the -1000, leased or not.

Turkish Airlines has inked deals for 25 789's and 25 A359's plus 5 options for each.

Deliveries will start next year, though no breakdown on what is delivered

Interesting that Turkish Airlines already have a delivery schedule for 60 planes even if only 50 is firm at the moment if above is correct.

I think this whole order is still "only" a commitment.
Quote Flight Global:
Airbus, in confirming Turkish Airlines' A350 selection in a release of its own, describes the carrier as having signed an MoU covering 25 aircraft and options on five more.

I thought this was the thread to look for concrete orders at Airbus and Boeing, not for speculations and rumors.

Considering 2018 is a rather slow year in terma of orders, some meaningful rumours will keep this thread alive.
