Vietnamese carrier Vietjet has placed a firm order with Airbus for an additional 50 A321neo single aisle aircraft, finalising an MOU signed at the Farnborough International Airshow last July.

Great to see, but there are more MOUs from the Farnborough show, like the A220 deals. Still a lot to firm up.

Airbus is going to lose the widebody race catastrophically this year, but there's still plenty of time to catch up on narrowbodies. I wouldn't be shocked if Airbus wins the narrowbody race; after Vietjet, they only need 200 more orders.

They need 200 more plus however many Boeing gets in that time.

I have learned to never underestimate Airbus' December month when it comes to orders, or deliveries for that sake.

NO. Lets see what happens in November and December. My memory says that Airbus in the past has announced some significant orders towards the end of year.

I prefer to see what actually happens...

Yes the one that magically sells 450 planes in an order placed at 11:59 on New Years Eve. Every year he seemed to have a 'hail Mary" that was the winning score.

As usual Boeing's sales of wide body models was higher than Airbus, so in terms of order value Boeing won the sales crown for 2017.

There is a big Indigo conversion from A320NEO to A321NEO of 125 frames, making 150 in total now.

Also AerCap the same for 8 units.

The Kuwait Airways A330neo order also isn't a conversion from their A350 order, which was wrongly reported in some articles.

There was just 1 cancellation of a A320ceo by Israir Airlines

That's pretty well done, especially because it seems a more "modest" year with regard to sale.

I think the A321 conversion bt Indigo is only the tip of the iceberg. I expect a good majority of NEO deliveries to be the A321.

Yeah the A321Neo seems to hit the sweet spot. :-) I must say, I find it the airplane with the most fascinating appearance of the A320 range.

Boeing October update

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/#/orders-deliveries

Aviation Capital Group 3x 737 MAX
Boeing Capital Corporation1x 787-9
Business Jet / VIP Customer(s) 1x 737 MAX
Turkmenistan Airlines Turkmenistan 3x 737 MAX
Unidentified Customer(s) 1x 737 MAX
Unidentified Customer(s) 2x 737 MAX
Unidentified Customer(s) 1x 777-200LR
Vistara 6x 787-9

Yes you read it correctly, that's an order for 1 777-200LR

GECAS cancelled 1 787-9, probably taken over by Boeing Capital.

The 777-200LR is very interesting. Probably for a private/government jet, but with Etihad's parked there is already availability. Of the current operators, I could only see DL and ET.

That 77L has gotta be for a government somewhere. If DL or ET wanted a singleton in that class they would order an A350-900. If AC wanted one, they'd order a 787-9.

Neither DL or ET is getting a single A350 next year or within a short period of time - you can with a 77L.

Well that confirms at least part of SQ's add-on order for 19 787-10s is destined for Scoot. Not surprising, couldn't see much use of more than 30 787-10s for SQ mainline. Will be interesting to see how many of the remaining 17 787-10s will actually be delivered as -10s.

Not a conversion. A350s differed to 2025-2026. The best of all world's for Airbus and RR.

Which would seem to support the idea that the last batch of A350's will likely be replacements for 777's. Those planes are getting refurbished now and 2025-2026 would be a good time to start replacing them.

Congrats to Boeing and Jeju Air. I am not sure if the A320neo was in the running but considering Jeju is an all 737-800 operator, not surprised to see them select the 737MAX.

Yes, A320neo was in the run. However, most of South Korean LCC, even KE* as premium airline, run a big fleet of B737. Therefore not a surprise Boeing got this one. When time comes for Easter Jet, T'way, Jin Air to renew their fleet, Boeing will get them too. Only difference is Asiana and it's two subsidiaries Air Seoul and Air Busan which operates Airbus A320/A321 narrowbody exclusively.

*Side note, KE also has 30 A321neo. It was a surprise when the order was announced few years ago.

Cheers!

IIRC they selected 12 737MAXs. Doesn’t indicate if it’s orders or leases.

I agree.

Well the old heavyweight isn't there anymore. And I mean that figuratively. JL had a lot of internal powers that allowed him to close deals, I'm not sure bout the new guy(s) in sales town.
Further to that, at upper management level Airbus does seems to have some issues at the moment. That is not an ideal environment for closing year-end tough deals.
And lastly, the export-finance support situation also has not been fully resolved yet.

Not saying it can't be done, but I'm not holding my breath . . . .

If I'm not mistaken, there is an MoU of 180 NBs to China waiting to be firmed up.

The press release seems to have been removed by Airbus, but they haven't deleted the tweet with the now dead link.

The difference between Airbus and Boeing was 302 in thet totals up to the end of October. If Boeing dries up and Airbus has some more of these orders like the one from Avolon to firm up it can still be bridged.

Airbus will most likely update their monthly totals in a couple of hours, they usually do this late on the Friday. We might see the Avolon order there, otherwise it will show on the year end totals in mid January.

edit:

It's on Avolon's website, click the .pdf in the link for the full press release.
