Sounds like it's a mechanism to allow private companies and local/state government to increase CBP activities if they're willing to pay for it.

I imagine this would be useful in some place like PIA or BMI where a few entities are driving most of the traffic.

I'm assuming it's because of new WW, WN, Apple, and another possible airline entering potentially causing strain

Landing yesterday morning, I saw what looked like an all white 757 (could only see the back 1/4 of the fuselage and tail) parked under the white open hangar on the Boeing part of the field, just North of 12L/30R. Anyone know what it is? I looked through arrivals and couldn't find anything. Do not recall seeing it when I left on 6/10. I looked at arrivals over the past month and only see DL and 5X.

I'm pretty sure Boeing's "Catfish" (N757A) has been at Lambert for the past month or so, so there's a good chance that's what you saw.

New airline coming to America from the JetBlue guy but don't expect any service here. STL is in flyover country for coastal elitists.

Normally when security opens, unless they are are running the dog(s) up and down the general security line. Then they close it.

I know ticket counter opens 90 minutes prior to first departure of the day.

Swift Air now schedules a 767 (was a 737-800) into STL from Punta Cana. Cool to have a heavy coming in that’s not UPS or Fedex.

I believe they are having issues with their 737 fleet, most routes are being replaced by the 767 for the time being

Yeah that might be the case. Somebody I was talking to just said that more 767s will be coming in from Swift.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to try to stop by sometime to watch it take off or land.

Also, a new PFC is out. Nothing too exciting (snow equipment) and some rework to T1 pickups and baggage. Hopefully it helps baggage times from the plane to the claim.

https://www.flystl.com/uploads/document ... Notice.pdf

BIGGER news, in my opinion, though is that I emailed the person listed in this asking about if anything was going on with renovating C29 and C30 in the previous PFC. He told me bids were recently released and the plan is to have it activated and opened by March 2019.

That would line up pretty well with an April or May start for a new airline.. And line up in time for when new routes to Europe usually start.....

why would one flight to Europe need two gates?

Glad to hear that about C29 and C30. I am assuming that we won’t get a new airline for domestic or international service this year (I hope I’m wrong though). This renovation should definitely give us something new.

It wouldn't need two but if you are going to renovate a gate you are also going to do the one across the walkway from it. It wouldn't make much sense to just redo the waiting area for one gate then have one non renovated right across the hall. They want to be able to just move the wall in the concourse and have everything on the used side renovated.

They also currently do not have any gates in renovated areas that are not being used (except A9 which has a really small holding area so it is only used for a random Delta arrival). So they need to have more gates available in general for other carriers to start Spirit/Jetblue. The PCF also mentioned this, not which airlines, but that they need more gates for future expansion or new entrants.

They are renovating C27/28/29/30. C28 already gets a bunch of use from AA, so they should have done it long ago. I get the feeling by timing that they aren't just renovating these gates just to renovate them, otherwise they would have done 28 before now. They never have before. They need a gate or gates from someone to start service in spring and while they are doing it they might as well just do all 4 so they have an extra or two ready to go. I wish they would just do the rest of C because they will almost be to the end of it now anyway but I guess they think 4 more is enough.

Updated my Load Factor Spreadsheet for March.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Notes. (Outbound,Inbound)

First month for PBI on Southwest. 92.57% and 82.79%. So I would expect that back next year. Maybe even add a Sunday flight.

Still don't totally get why AS PDX-STL is getting cut. Started back up in March and ran at 83.77%/90.16%. Summer numbers would be even better but oh well.
Southwest was 87% and 90% on PDX-STL. I would doubt they add a second one because of length, but if summer is in the 90s then maybe seasonally?

Denver ran high on all airlines.
Frontier 97.5%!! and 91.5%
Southwest 93% and 89.5%
United 89.5% and 91%

STL-PIT on WN was at 89% both ways. Still waiting on a 2nd daily on it.

BLV ran over 90% for the month so things are looking good there.

"please stayed tuned in for new destination announcements in the near future."

Not that we know what "near" is, but I thought it was of note.

May numbers are out.

1.4 mil for the month.

Up 7.2% over last May
Up 5.2% on the year

On pace for 15.5 mil this year, which would put the airport at his highest levels since 2003. Hopefully summer numbers can push that a bit higher.

That is what I have heard going around also. I also hope destination announcement(s) is actually more than one, whether that be WN next week or something else besides the August one. Personally, still waiting on another carrier to get on BOS (Jetblue or Delta).

Found this on the airport. There is a short interview with the airport director.

Key points:

Pretty happy with service to the coasts but looking to add shorter routes. IND, SDF, JAX mentioned (this was before F9 added JAX)
Talked about TATL and threw out some cities like AMS, London, DUB, and Paris, like most airports do.
Said the Wingtips Lounge is doing well.

There is some other good data in the article. Worth a read if you are interested.

WN did serve IND and SDF nonstop from STL in the past, and WN could bring back nonstop service to IND and SDF. WN could also add CVG-STL nonstop service in addition to bringing back SDF-STL and IND-STL nonstop service. WN bringing back IND-STL and SDF-STL nonstop service and adding CVG-STL nonstop service would improve connectivity to WN destinations in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas from Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

It can take 4 hours to fly to IND, SDF, or CVG from STL on WN with a connection at MDW, and WN adding nonstop service to IND, SDF, and CVG would significantly reduce travel time to these markets from St. Louis. WN can get St. Louis-area travelers to IND, SDF, and CVG from STL within 1 hour if these destinations were served nonstop from STL. WN also can stimulate additional demand for STL-CVG service by adding STL-CVG nonstop service, and CVG also used to have nonstop service out of STL on more than just DL back in the days of the TW hub in STL.

With STL-IND being less than a 4 hour drive, I just can't imagine why anyone would opt to fly it rather than drive it, especially since they're both cities where you'd more than likely need to rent a car once you land. I get why you'd fly STL-MDW/ORD - parking at a downtown Chicago hotel can be 70 bucks a night and public transit will get you anywhere you need to go, but that's just not the case for STL or IND.

If they can route connecting traffic to and from IND through STL, then that makes sense. Going to need a lot of people connecting to fill a plane IMO.

Kansas City is closer than Indy and they run 4x a day. That's with KC's airport out in the middle of nowhere compared to the city and driving. There are connections on both ends but I think they could make IND work once a day if they run it into a bank to places IND doesn't have nonstops.

Where are they arriving to? Can the international E gates accomodate a 767?

I am pretty sure it can but I am not sure anyone can use E31 while it would be parked at E29 (or E33).

IND is actually closer to STL than MCI is by the driving distance between the downtown areas of the cities, by the driving distance between the airports serving the cities, and by the great circle distance between the airports serving the cities. According to the Great Circle Mapper, STL-IND is 229 miles whereas STL-MCI is 237 miles.

I believe C28 & above were capable of handling the TWA widebodies. Not sure if you could have all the gates filled with them at once ... as I've seen pictures and recall something like this, and variations thereof....

C28 widebody
C30 narrow
C32 widebody
C34 narrow
C36 widebody
C38 widebody

And I believe C2 & C6 could be used, too, but not sure about the blocking restrictions of the other gate for a 767, etc.

At the time I wrote my post it said the TIME to drive between the two was faster to KC than Indy, not miles. But anyway the point was they are basically the same distance apart and one is flown 4x a day and thus I think the other one could work for once a day. Most of the STL population is on the west side of downtown which puts it closer to KC than Indy anyway.

Interestingly enough, flight manager puts the flying time IND-STL at 40 minutes with IND-MDW at 33 minutes. I recall flights on TWA between IND/STL with very fast, no b.s. drink service if the flight wasn't completely full.

Wasn’t C30 the gate that the 747 pulled into during TWA times? I may be completely off.

I know when I was little I would see Paris and London at the end of C. I pulled up some old aerials and there is one parked in 1996 at C35. Another widebody of some sort in 2002 and 2003 at C36.

Now they use C28 for one off widebody charters usually. The 747 that came last year or the year before used that gate.

According to STL's Facebook page, there will be an announcement tomorrow (Tuesday 6/26) regarding a new airline coming to Saint Louis.

New airline announcement tomorrow. My guess is Spirit or JetBlue, doubt it would be a major international announcement.

Gotta be Spirit or jet Blue, right? B6 has reached the point that adding St. Louis - still a major business market - is almost a necessary evil from a network connectivity standpoint.

I suppose Spirit to markets like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Fort Lauderdale could make sense as well.

We shall see. British Airways or Condor would be quite a nice surprise.....

I think signs are pointing to Sun Country.

We have a discussion going here.

I caught the end of a segment on KSDK last night’s 10 pm news that said “Sun Country did not return a phone call”. Will be shocked to see what happens here. If they do MSP and MCO they will get hammered. I am all for more traffic at STL, and hope whatever the routes are that it works for SY. Welcome to The ‘ Lou!

If it is Sun Country, it'll be nice to see them back. I remember when they flew the great three holers in - cool livery.

If it's between JetBlue and Spirit, my bet would be Spirit. STL aggravated JetBlue too many time IMO for them to reconsider. Spirit actually doesn't make to much sense with BVL a stones throw away. Whoops - had Allegiant on the brain.

Sun Country is in the lead I think. We'll see soon.

All the news outlets are reporting it is Sun Country. Still interested to see where they fly. I don't think they will do MSP, I think they are going to get away from that model. Like the previous mention I hope not MCO, everyone flies that. Pick some new places.

In non new airline news, the Swift 767 is back. It is a different one than last time. Parked near the end of C again.

Also, DL is running a 757 from MSP today and tomorrow. I see them come from ATL sometimes but not MSP usually.

If they are say flying 3-4 times a week out of STL they may as well sell a few seats between MSP-STL. Better than ferrying an empty aircraft. I doubt that they would base an aircraft in STL.
