Trololzilla wrote:No. There is relatively little demand between Asia and STL (as partially evidenced by TWA's proposed STL - Tokyo route being axed before it even started) and STL just isn't well located for passenger connections from Asia (hence why most U.S. airports with Asia services are on the coasts). The China hub thing was for cargo anyway.

William Vanecek, NFTA director of aviation (For Buffalo), said the authority is lobbying air carriers for direct service to such cities as San Francisco, Dallas, Houston and St. Louis — all of which are high on the business community’s wish list.

I noticed that too - Maybe they are just blocking the first few seats for press/ political figures? Side note: the inaugural still had promo fares on it surprisingly
Jshank83 wrote:Sidenote: I watched MCI's latest airport update. Southwest had a representative there that mentioned "gate constraints at Midway and even St. Louis". I found that curious since I feel like we have plenty of gates. He did mention later their biggest constraint at airports in general is baggage systems because they "crush them". Maybe that is more of our constraint than gates?

WN actually has room to do more flights out of the 14 gates currently used by WN at STL, and WN does have room to do at least 140 daily departures out of STL. WN currently does only 113 daily departures out of STL, and WN currently does more flights per gate per day at AUS, DAL, MCI, LAX, SAN, and SJC than it does at STL.
Is WN planning on expanding beyond 140 daily departures at STL?

I’ll be on the inaugural to KEF, if I remember I’ll post something.

Nice! If you can remember, was the plane showing an a320 or a a321 when you booked it?

The China "hub" being discussed for STL a while back was a cargo "hub". I put HUB in " " because a flight or two a week would not a hub make.

FI doesn’t serve STL. MCI service starts on 5/25. WW will serve STL starting on 5/17

It is also a little hard to compare since they are different airlines products.
MCI - 3 days weekly seasonally on 757 (185ish seat variety)
STL - 4-5 days weekly (I think year round, but I don't know the winter frequency) on A321 (200-208 seats)
So STL will have a lot more capacity but WOW also is cheaper than Icelandic Air. Not sure how that will influence things.

Were you in the C concourse- the place is just depressing? E is always completely full whenever I go.

I was at the delta / united gates, I believe A?
Not much to see there, if your lucky maybe a delta 757 comes around but no widebodies or high traffic or anything. I imagine it used to be bustling with activity from all types of planes.
There was a 737 from an airline I didn't recognize parked at an unmarked gate with what looked to be burn marks from the rudder to the end of the fuselage.

A has always been a quiet concourse. United and Delta never had a big presence in STL (save for a few years DL ramped up flights a bit around 2010). F9 might have run out of it for a bit before it moved to C. The plane you saw was probably a charter. They run out of A also.

Southwest's terminal is of course busy but the old TWA area was looking like a ghost town. 2 or 3 small AA planes is one thing but I wish I could have seen it with gates full of TWA tails.
That plane was certainly a charter but I'm not sure what the story behind the damage to the fuselage was. It was there when I arrived and hadn't moved when I left 4 days later... Time I google I suppose.

Two weeks in a row (Thursday mornings) I noticed the Eastern or maybe it’s Swift now, not sure 737 parked in the A concourse. Is that the one?
Jshank83 wrote:Towards the end of August UA is putting a couple mainlines in the route to ORD. First time I have seen that in awhile. Obviously, it can change between now and then. As of last month there were no mainlines on UA at all at STL. They now have some scheduled on SFO/IAH/DEN/ORD at least for a few months at a time.

That plane is there a fair amount. I am going to assume that is the one he is talking about. You are correct it is swift air now.

I think they are coming May 22. At least that is what I read in the airport board release. Which is probably good because of what happened at BPV this past weekend. Wouldn't have been ideal time for them to be here.
