No. There is relatively little demand between Asia and STL (as partially evidenced by TWA's proposed STL - Tokyo route being axed before it even started) and STL just isn't well located for passenger connections from Asia (hence why most U.S. airports with Asia services are on the coasts). The China hub thing was for cargo anyway.

If Southwest partners with another LCC it's likely to be a European one (not sure SW wants an agreement with Volaris or Westjet again, though Westjet might not be a bad choice this time around) like WOW or Icelandair.

DL and WS plan on forming a joint venture, and WS is going to be discontinuing its codeshare relationship with AA on July 31st. WN codesharing with WS is unlikely to occur with DL and WS planning on forming a joint venture.

WN did previously have an interline and marketing agreement with FI that allowed passengers to connect between WN and FI (with transfer of checked luggage) at BWI, but that agreement was discontinued in January 2007. WN could possibly partner with FI again, and WN could also possibly codeshare with FI.

WW charges for carry-on baggage like F9, NK, G4, and SY do in the US. At least in my opinion, WN would prefer to partner with an European carrier that doesn't charge for carry-on baggage over partnering with WW or another European airline that charges for carry-on baggage.

Might be a possibility we see BUF-STL on WN sometime in the near future? I would guess ORF or RIC comes first but at least we know BUF is lobbying for it. They could feed it into a bank with a short layover to the others listed.

William Vanecek, NFTA director of aviation (For Buffalo), said the authority is lobbying air carriers for direct service to such cities as San Francisco, Dallas, Houston and St. Louis — all of which are high on the business community’s wish list.

On the O&D topic, where would someone find this information about STL? I would be really interested in seeing the number of people who depart each day to Asia, Europe, etc.

Interesting ..... i knew BUF / NFTA wanted San Francisco, Dallas, and houston. DID NOT know about St. Louis!

Can JetBlue start flights to Mid America Airport? Thinking a Midwest "hub" here.
Why endure the nightmare and congestion of LAX when BUR, LGB, ONT & SNA is so much easier to fly in and out of.

I would highly doubt they would go to MidAmerica. The only other airline I think would even consider it would be Spirit. Jetblue doesn't come across as an airline going to a secondary airport. Midamerica couldn't support any sort of hub anyway without a major construction project. It only has 2 gates and already had to add a remote stand just to support Allegiant flights. I am doubtful they hub at STL, but if they do STL has plenty of gates available still for Jetblue to start up and have pretty much as many gates as they want.

Reading through the March minutes from the airport commission meeting:

Three Kings opens in May.

May 22-24 Southwest is sending 80 employees from its revenue planning department to tour the St. Louis Area. It has been visiting each of Southwest's top ten cities and makes decisions regarding new routes. Explore St. Louis will be providing the tour. (It would be nice if this includes talking about a crew base of some sort, but that is some wishful thinking)

Wingtips meeting expectations so far.

Sidenote: I watched MCI's latest airport update. Southwest had a representative there that mentioned "gate constraints at Midway and even St. Louis". I found that curious since I feel like we have plenty of gates. He did mention later their biggest constraint at airports in general is baggage systems because they "crush them". Maybe that is more of our constraint than gates?

I honestly think southwest should add another daily flight to ICT. Whenever I fly that route it is always full on the morning flight to ICT and the dawn flight to STL.

Signage should be going up soon. They officially got approved for space at the April airport board meeting. I am a little bummed I'll already be in Europe for the inaugural. I would have liked to have seen it fly in. I'll just have to check it out when I get back.

Speaking of WOW flights, they have a seatmap for a 320neo on one of the days, May 19. There is no way that can be right, correct? I would think it wouldn't have the range for that flight.

The China "hub" being discussed for STL a while back was a cargo "hub". I put HUB in " " because a flight or two a week would not a hub make.

I noticed that too - Maybe they are just blocking the first few seats for press/ political figures? Side note: the inaugural still had promo fares on it surprisingly

WW also changed their naming (at least in STL) so that the "business seats" now say premium on them.

I think WOW might always have "promo" fares until the flight is full. They just increase the price but still call it a promo.

WN actually has room to do more flights out of the 14 gates currently used by WN at STL, and WN does have room to do at least 140 daily departures out of STL. WN currently does only 113 daily departures out of STL, and WN currently does more flights per gate per day at AUS, DAL, MCI, LAX, SAN, and SJC than it does at STL.

Is WN planning on expanding beyond 140 daily departures at STL?

WN uses 16 gates at STL (not 14) and has access to a 17th that just needs a jet bridge to start using. They will be running 119 flights on Sundays over the summer.

Its has shown a 321 every time I checked. I think only Saturday's flights shows 320.

Right, but the implication was that it would lead to some sort of Asian passenger flights too.

It is also a little hard to compare since they are different airlines products.

MCI - 3 days weekly seasonally on 757 (185ish seat variety)
STL - 4-5 days weekly (I think year round, but I don't know the winter frequency) on A321 (200-208 seats)

So STL will have a lot more capacity but WOW also is cheaper than Icelandic Air. Not sure how that will influence things.

Too early to tell but not all that great. They should have kept Portland, IMO.

This was 2017 total for AS. SAN was only for half of December. Portland had the best loads and it was cut. Seattle had bigger planes though and more passengers. Obviously more than this goes into it.

city.....................outbound...inbound.. total
Portland (PDX) 83.63% 85.89% 84.76%
San Deigo (SAN) 83.20% 72.68% 77.94%
Seattle (SEA) 81.43% 82.55% 81.99%

SAN for Jan 2018 (on AS)
outbound 62.7%
inbound 61%

I only download Missouri stats so MCI as comparison for January on AS

SAN
inbound 41.7%
outbound 67.4%

SFO
inbound 46.5%
outbound 44.1%

I was at the delta / united gates, I believe A?

Not much to see there, if your lucky maybe a delta 757 comes around but no widebodies or high traffic or anything. I imagine it used to be bustling with activity from all types of planes.

There was a 737 from an airline I didn't recognize parked at an unmarked gate with what looked to be burn marks from the rudder to the end of the fuselage.

A has always been a quiet concourse. United and Delta never had a big presence in STL (save for a few years DL ramped up flights a bit around 2010). F9 might have run out of it for a bit before it moved to C. The plane you saw was probably a charter. They run out of A also.

Probably one of the charter airlines that operates to Caribbean destinations for Apple Vacations. IIRC, they board in the A concourse but drop passengers off at US CBP in E.

Southwest's terminal is of course busy but the old TWA area was looking like a ghost town. 2 or 3 small AA planes is one thing but I wish I could have seen it with gates full of TWA tails.

That plane was certainly a charter but I'm not sure what the story behind the damage to the fuselage was. It was there when I arrived and hadn't moved when I left 4 days later... Time I google I suppose.

Two weeks in a row (Thursday mornings) I noticed the Eastern or maybe it’s Swift now, not sure 737 parked in the A concourse. Is that the one?

A has always been a quiet concourse. United and Delta never had a big presence in STL (save for a few years DL ramped up flights a bit around 2010). F9 might have run out of it for a bit before it moved to C. The plane you saw was probably a charter. They run out of A also.

That plane is there a fair amount. I am going to assume that is the one he is talking about. You are correct it is swift air now.

Towards the end of August UA is putting a couple mainlines in the route to ORD. First time I have seen that in awhile. Obviously, it can change between now and then. As of last month there were no mainlines on UA at all at STL. They now have some scheduled on SFO/IAH/DEN/ORD at least for a few months at a time.

Yeah, I was looking for flights to Denver through United and it looked like they had one mainline going once a day.

Yes, thats the one. The rear fuselage near the tail looked all burned up and blackened.

So I was going through my frequency database for June and updating it. Southwest made a few changes from their original schedule release.

Added an extra flight to Orlando every day but Friday. (to 5x m-th, 4x on fri, 6x sat/sun)
Added an extra flight to New Orleans on Friday only (to 3x).
Added an extra flight to Tampa on Saturday only (to 5x).

So it will now be 116 flights Mon-Friday.
99 on Saturday
120 on Sunday.
799 a week.

They could have just added one more to Saturday to make it an even 100 and 800 total.. but I like round numbers...

I'll have the entire thing up later in the week.

Nice! I agree with you, why not add one more flight on Saturday! Haha. Hoping while they had their tour of St. Louis this past week they decide to step it up to the next level.

I think they are coming May 22. At least that is what I read in the airport board release. Which is probably good because of what happened at BPV this past weekend. Wouldn't have been ideal time for them to be here.

Oh okay, gotcha! Thought they were here this past week, my mistake.
