In my estimation, it is looking like Alaska is going to be the last 737 operator actively taking deliveries to get their first Max. True?

I think that is Ryanair. They have to wait until the MAX 200 end of 2019 I think. Alaska’s first was planned for earlier at least I think that year. Unless all changed. Could be others too not sure.

Great to see the first 9 for Copa! My hunch is there is more 9's and 10's hiding in the undetermined pile of MAX orders than we all might think and glad to see that hunch confirmed. Found reference to 5 9's for Copa, does anyone know if they've got more than that ? (The article I found just said they'd get 5 9's this year didn't clarify whether there were more coming down the line)
Thanks!

If you look at their investor site, in their fleet plan, they are planning to receive 5 B737 Max 9 this year and 10 next year: https://copa.gcs-web.com/encrypt/files?file=nasdaq_kms/assets/2008/09/08/0-00-00/Fleet_Plan.pdf&file_alias=2601, but this fleet plan is from June 2017.

If you check their 2017 Annual report https://copa.gcs-web.com/static-files/350c9563-6aab-455f-82dd-f7041f019b16, they have a slightly different schedule: for the B737 Max, but they don't specify the model: Total number of B737 Max (no model specified): 5 (2018 or +5), 13 (2019 or +8), 22 (2020 or +9), 34 (2021 or +12), 46 (2022 or +12).

From press releases, they have stated that they have 71 B737 Max on order. 15 are B737 Max 10, at least 15 looks like B737 Max 9 (from the fleet plan slide), thus 41 could be a mix of different versions.

Thank so much for the information! I had missed the investor report, by my numbers that means there's at least 150 9's identified. Not bad and a lot better than I think most would have thought after the 10 came on.

A question,: Does Boeing have a glider storage due to misisng engines as well, or is the turn out running smoothly?

If aircraft are coming out of final assembly without engines, as a lot of the above are, then they are behind on the engines. However, they certainly don’t have 80-100 gliders hanging around like the A320neo although that problem seems to be getting solved.

I have no idea how many MAX are awaiting engines but not a huge number and there aren’t year old aircraft in storage waiting either like a few NEOs.

Pardon my ignorance, but does Boeing still produce non-Max 737's? or are all of them MAX? And if so, are we going to eventually discontinue the normal 737NG and produce only MAX?

They still produce the 737NG. Currently building both until last of the NG orders are done. After which it will be discontinued and all future orders will be the MAX.

Airbus is doing the same building A320ceo and A320neo. Again they will stop building the A320ceo and all future deliveries will be A320neo.

I believe unless changed by the end of 2020 no more A320ceo or B737NG will be left and all neo/Max. There are about 300 A320ceo left to build and probably similar numbers of NG left in a backlog of well over 4500 for each of the neo/MAX. Not many left to build.

What are SpiceJet going to do when they run out of spice names for the huge amount of 737s they have on order? There are a lot of spices but not that many and most of them are already in use on their NGs. :scratchchin:

It's not running smoothly and from my casual observations the Max models are starting to pile up. There's currently a 62 frame gap between the earliest Max still to fly and the most recent NG flight and the gap is growing. The engine supply backlog is certainly not reducing. 737 Max test flight activity this month as a whole has been really low when compared to, say, 12 months ago.

I foresee storage problems at RNT before the end of the year as they're pretty much using every available bit of space to put them already and it's not like they can fly them to BFI to ease the problem as they're missing a vital component! It must be a real pain in the ass for the ramp workers constantly shuffling them around like musical chairs. Every time they need to do a compass swing they have to move 3 gliders out of it and put them back again afterwards. That takes a lot of time.

There are currently 13 frames without engines at Renton, and of those 4 are currently getting engines installed after rollout. Boeing took away a large parking lot and is storing 4 frames between the final assembly and wing building. Unable to verify whats there as there is no good viewing spots. Can only see parts of them between the buildings as you drive by.

I'm sure this question has been posted, but how long does it take to paint a 737NG/MAX? I know it also depends on the airlines colors too.

Pardon my ignorance, but does Boeing still produce non-Max 737's? or are all of them MAX? And if so, are we going to eventually discontinue the normal 737NG and produce only MAX?

I believe unless changed by the end of 2020 no more A320ceo or B737NG will be left and all neo/Max. There are about 300 A320ceo left to build and probably similar numbers of NG left in a backlog of well over 4500 for each of the neo/MAX. Not many left to build.

Right now the 737NG will cease production towards the end of 2019 — there are about 150+/- left to build.

What about the military variants based on the NG platform? Some are scheduled for delivery well into the 2020s.

P-8 has its own production line, won't be affected.

The 1st MAX 200 should be in final assembly towards the end of Sept based on the current rate. Line Number 7285 is the 1st one from what I was told by a Boeing Employee familiar with it.

Thanks, WN is about to get a bunch though and should pass Air Canada. How many will AC have at the end of 2018?

According to the Q2 2018 fleet plan, no more for 2018, but another 18 in 2019 for a total of 36 MAX8. There are also MAX9s on order but they have, from what I understand, been deferred. It wouldn't surprise me to see them converted to more MAX8s, or MAX10s, or even passed up altogether for A321NEOs or LRs. AC seems to really like the 321.

Thanks for keeping the updates coming. With the increased production rate over past years, it's a lot of work. Appreciate it.

A 737 MAX 7 (N7201S, I assume that's the second aircraft now?) is out on a flight to EUG today for the second time this week... I missed it earlier but maybe I'll duck out of work and try to snag a picture.
