Now that Farnborough is fast approaching, should we expect any orders from PAL? Maybe an option conversion for them? Or a surprise A330neo order?

This blog seemed to be hinting that the four A339N UFOs in Airbus' list were for PR..... :airplane: .....

At the right price, two pairs of 251T A339Ns might work for PAL...offseting the higher fuel burn and potential risks of the less developed engines with a lower capex outlay -- as compared to the competition. This is especially true if Airbus could help PR swap A339s with the two-class A330s to remove excess capacity on their ME network. They could use the A339Ns to launch new NA and European routes instead. Guess we'll just have to wait for any official announcement.

However, all of PR's fleet upgrades will have limited benefit if their main hub at MNL remains bogged down in bureaucratic red tape and marker returns..... :hissyfit: .....

Quote:
"INFRASTRUCTURE work to improve to the country’s local and international airports are ongoing, but the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stopped short of promising that a new international gateway would open in Metro Manila before the term of President Duterte ends.

Speaking in Filipino, he said, 'The new terminal in Clark will be surely finished by 2021, and will be inaugurated by our President. It’s been awarded, the work has started, and by the end of July, the bidding for O&M [operations and maintenance] will take place. So it will be finished within the term of our President.'

Tugade said the government will definitely convert the existing Danilo Atienza Airbase at the former US naval facility to handle general aviation. This means private planes and charter operations will have to move from the Naia to Sangley, an idea earlier raised by the Aquino administration.

'While there is no decision yet on the project, improvements there will continue. There is an ongoing asphalt overlay and a plan to put up three or four hangars,' the DOTr chief stressed.

'In the Naia, whether it will be the seven taipans or the government, we will finish the improvements and renovation there.' Tugade said, though, that the government work on the Naia will be more on the 'improvement of facilities in terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4.' Not a new terminal. Not a new runway."

The last quoted passage casts doubt on how their proposed improvements at NAIA will be able to handle the expected large increase in the number of passengers/flights and relieve airspace congestion there. :alert: The DOTr always warns about the dangers of a single company running the major airports in the country. The agency seems to have forgotten about the monumental delays inflicted upon the traveling public and the harm done to the national economy -- by multiple companies who worked on NAIA Terminal 3! :stirthepot:

Interesting... Could we see the A330neo as the true A343 replacement, instead of the A359?

Also, it was quite amusing to see a bunch of people complain about you liking the A338 too much on the comments section

Well, at least he's being realistic. A new airport in Bulacan would still require some reclamation (a lot of areas in Bulakan are below sea level, after all), and it would take quite some time to finish that up.

As for turning the Danilo Atienza Air Base as a GenAv alternative to NAIA, there at least seems to be some movement regarding that. IIRC the project was already bidded out last year and they expect to finish the improvements by next year.

The DOTr/MIAA seem to be actually serious about at least improving NAIA a bit (no matter how incremental the changes may be), and they are about to start replacing T1's airbridges. https://twitter.com/DOTrPH/status/1011859422992363520

If NAIA still remains terrible, though, and any new airport project gets cancelled, PR always has the option of establishing an ATL-style transit hub at CRK or CEB for future growth.

It all depends on whether the NEO could do most of what PR needs it to do, and that the price delta between it and say, a regular weight (HGW not required for U.S. west coast/continental EU) variant A359 justifies the lower end choice. Of course, a standard weight A359 limits PR's flexibility to cycle it on a nonstop polar route. BTW, PR's second A359 is said to be on the flightline already...anybody got any pictures? :camera:

The long, tedious work is for subsurface settlement/stabilization, earth compaction and shoreline protection. As a natural flood basin, critical attention has to be given to airfield drainage and tidal effects around the area. Am familiar with the site conditions having lived the first fifty years of my life in the vicinity.

Yes.....the T1 airbridges were screaming to be replaced. Let's just hope they wouldn't mar those with large advertisement posters..... :crossfingers: .....

Considering that the department and the proponent could not quite come up with definite answers to the questions posed to them, might it not be better and faster (via some modifications) to just proceed with this proposal..... :scratchchin: .....

Quote:
"'When we take delivery of the right aircraft, we will again consider flying Cebu to the US,' said Philippine Airlines (PAL) president and chief operating officer Jaime Bautista at the sidelines of PAL’s Mabuhay Lounge unveiling at the Terminal 2 of the Mactan Cebu International Airport yesterday.

PAL first launched the Cebu-Los Angeles flight last March 2016 as part of the company’s 75th anniversary celebration. The thrice-weekly flight was the first direct flight between Cebu and a US city.

PAL explained in a statement that the temporary suspension of the Cebu-Los Angeles service is 'being carried out as PAL rationalizes capacity on the route.' Bautista assured that plans to mount long-haul flights for Cebu will continue, especially now that Cebu’s new terminal will commence operations on July 1.

'It will all depend on the delivery of the aircraft,' said Bautista, adding that they will likewise continue their flights to Japan (Nagoya, Osaka, Narita), South Korea, certain cities in China and to Bangkok from Cebu."

So...will it be the A359...or this?..... :airplane: .....

They don't serve the business class meals like in that photo.they serve them in trays...new plates and stylish cutleries are needed...when will they change the average-looking set of plates to porcellaine,a more stylish one?...much much more personalization (f.e trapestry design on plates) etc. is needed. but nice that their thin blanket will be now 3 layers (photo above) and hiring better chefs for the filipino cuisine @ business class, which is a step by step improvement.

Btw,are those new plates?they seem to be bigger

And i'm still for the welcome appetizer: lumpia shanghai.not 1 carrier in asia is servimg the most loveable eggroll as appetizers to passengers.philippine eggrolls are the best.

With regards to PAL Business Class Meal Service It can be inconsistent at times based on my obersvation. On most long-haul flights to north america it's done more personally while for most other routes liked to Australia they used trays. As for the plate the design looks a bit different from what they are currently using however the shape remains the same with the old onces but I do agree that PAL those need to improved both presentation and quality of there inflight meals.

I'd rather they don't...the last time they were fawning over him and it came across as very artificial and contrived. The poor guy was clearly uncomfortable but politely went along and said nothing. It was not the kind of unobtrusive attention that the airline should convey to the flying public and fellow a.netters.

Seat map for the A321neo and A350-900 are know available on PAL website.

A321neo
https://www.philippineairlines.com/en/t ... mapA321neo

A350-900
https://www.philippineairlines.com/en/t ... apA350-900

One Intresting observation is PAL has classified the A321-200 to the A321ceo which does make sense since both are technically designed as A321-200. so the ceo and neo make it easier to different each type.

Seems the dice are loaded anew. I said in #247 that if Bulakan got more traction, a scope reduction might be inevitable for the NAIA Rehab. And also wondered in #253 what would become of CRK T2 if Bulakan pushed through. Now, there may not even be anything M/GMR could look forward to in MNL. :expressionless:

PR nonstop to JFK is scheduled to start in October. Could there be some last minute A359 requirements for the route authority?

Thanks for posting. Almost ~3 hours was ample time for a photo op and a short meeting...commensurate with a potential PR A339 order which could possibly be a conversion of their six A350 options. But no matter how small it may be compared to others' orders...all the obligatory due diligence have to be satisfied first before any i's are dotted and t's crossed (as in D7's case).

So...Magellan has landed in the Philippines again...only in Manila this time around, instead of Mactan. A pity...TAP's vibrant colors perfectly match the festive (albeit very warm) atmosphere at MCIA T2. :sun: Airbus may have to brush up on their Tagalog though...the time stamp was 6:06 AM and they were greeting everyone "Magandang Hapon". :cheerful: But props to them for trying...maybe they should learn Sugbuanon next time if they want to reconquer Cebu with their A339neo. We might see if they succeeded at Farnborough. :airplane:

Melbourne is going daily from OCT 28 onwards. And will be operated by the A330.

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/ai ... -oct-2018/

A bit surprised with the capacity increased in MEL, going from just 3 times weekly to 5 weekly in June and then going daily after just 4 months. I do expect PAL to used a mix of A321neo and A330 in MEL once CEB start flying this AUG 14

PAL finally announces the inauguration of the A350 to JFK! At the start of winter schedule the A350 will be deplyed on Manila-New York nonstop.
But a big surprise added here, is that PAL will increase the route from four to five weekly flights at the same time, which is a great development!
And as we know, they announced LHR to be operated by the A350 too. But what I noticed here was that they changed the schedule on the outbound MNL-JFK flight, which I think was done to allow PAL to operate LHR and JFK with only three aircraft, instead of four! Smart move my PAL and very efficient use of aricraft.

PR720 MNL1300 – 1925LHR
PR721 LHR2150 – 1945+1MNL
PR126 MNL2100 – 2315JFK
PR127 JFK0145 – 0715+1MNL

If they do the same with the next batch of A350s, they will be able to operate four daily flights with their six aircraft, instead of only three as many feared...

not one 4 star airline will follow, this move is disastrous to pal.they gained so much respect.
Better complain now through fb chat, before this gets featured in media.

I can't realy get it..the question: alliances.someone already tried to explain it to me.but i think i don't still understand.cathay the biggest foreign operator in the ph will block pals entry in one world due overlapping routes?but cathay don't fly to guam,to honolulu,to davao, and puerto princesa, where the tourists are heading to.again,i didn't get it.why should cathay block pals entry to one world?to dissapoint costumers?cathay is a loyal airline to ph.and their interest is not to distract passengers.they should better work together because of the points they'll earn from rising middle class tourists!

Complicated policy of alliances.i just can't get it.
I think its the investor that will show where pal belongs.i'm deeply hoping its One World!

Of course CX will do whatever it takes to block out PR from One World.
Simply because CX makes solid loads/profits on flights from/to the Philippines and is not willing to give up its share on that market.
The fact that they do code share with PAL on CEB/MNL-HKG has no influence on that.
... and CX just extended their commitment to the Philippine market by adding DVO to their network recently (by means of KA).

I wish that PR would join Oneworld, though.
The next best would be Skyteam - which I would consider much more realistic because of much less local overlapping of ST members networks.

It appears PR may receive their A359s in quick succession based on hkcanadaexpat's (kudos to him BTW) updates in the A350 P&D thread. The first was contractually delivered June 28 and is set to fly home on July 14. The second has had its initial engine run and RTO and will conduct its FF tomorrow, July 9th. The third is said to be in cabin fit still. If all goes well, the A359 may even alternate with the A340s at LAX on lean days for part of its route proving flights... :crossfingers: ...(though LHR will likely get priority) .....

Who knows...if we're lucky, we might even see the eventual phase-out of the ex-IB birds when CEB-LAX resumes...as PR complete their evaluation to make sure (paraphrasing TF) the price is right, engine is right, PDP (pre-delivery payments) is right...and performance of the 330 251-tonne is right..... :goodvibes: .....

The study has to satisfy these for that to happen.....

The details of the updated ASA with Spain have been published.....

http://philippineairspace.blogspot.com/ ... srael.html

Alas, the ex-IB A340s will be doing a homecoming of sorts by opening the said service. Apparently, PR is not inclined to use their three-class A330s although those may manage the one-stop routes with some seats blocked. Below are a few possible combinations.....

I certainly hope that more new aircraft (A330Ns or A359s) will join PR's fleet so that the well-knackered A340s could be put to pasture soonest..... :crossfingers: .....

I think they need more A350s before openning new long haul routes.it would be a shame, if they deploy old ex iberia back to madrid.the irony.haha.

Pals 3rd A350s looks nice,i'm in love!!
A330neos should replace the 7 unrefurb A330,if they can't sell them.Madrid via Tel Aviv is a top route (catholic-route)

The fourth is in the paint hangar being painted per the A350 production list. The fifth and sixth will follow early next year.

I just saw it through fb.yes they removed it...but they used more orange (hallogram-effect depending light, matching the sunriser logo).i like the tiny stripes.it looks somehow more modern...i can't explain why.but if they will refurbish their other A330 they need the droplets.
