According to the Standard PAL is seriously considering Converting its option for 6 A350-900 to the larger A350-1000.

thestandard.com.ph/business/biz-plus/270482/pal-aims-for-five-star-rating-with-modern-tri-class-aircraft.html

I prefer the option to remain as the same, However the -1000 is a natural progression of the A350XWB series so there still comanality. Can the 316-tonnes MTOW varitant fly all the way to JFK if PAL decides to up-gauge from the -900 to the -1000?

Why would they fly the -1000 to JFK, though? I was under the impression that they needed the -1000 to supplement their LAX/SFO ops. It's supposed to be their bread and butter, but they're being squeezed by the competition, so they need a good payload-hauler to the West Coast to supplement the 77Ws. Besides, there are enough A359s on order to do JFK, LHR, and maybe even YYZ or ORD.

At a certain point, though, PAL will have to tone down their expansion a bit. They've got a lot more aircraft on order, and they've been starting routes left and right, so I hope they're not biting off more than they can chew. It's very telling that Cebu Pacific has been extremely disciplined with its capacity in recent years while PAL keeps growing.

PAL's growth plan post-LT buyback is significantly tamer than Ramon Ang's rather lofty ambitions during his reign (hell, he was even considering MNL-GRU for a while, AND wanted to order the 747-8). Also, the other aircraft on order are mostly replacements/additions to their short/medium-haul fleet - 6 A350s and 10 777s will not cut it for their long-haul expansion.

On a side note, 370 seats? That's pretty much the same seating capacity as their current 777s. Should they decide to convert the options into -1000s, I wonder if they'll just put the existing config on the 77W on the birds.

The existing config won't fit in an A35K. If they want 370 seats, they need to reduce the seats in the J cabin. It's theoretically doable if you have the same number of J and W seats as the 359 and reduce the pitch in Y.

Unless PR is intent on moving to an all-Airbus fleet and a potential A35K order would save/earn them considerably more money over their 77Ws moving forward, maintaining the status quo for now may be the more pragmatic approach. Their six existing A359 options are adequate to address additional capacity needs and allow more flexibility for their planned NA and European routes. That is, if they are not ending the leases of their earliest 77Ws.

Moving on to NAIA.....Philstar reports that the Super Consortium is inching closer to getting original proponent status for the airport's rehabilitation.... :ill: .....

Not sure how "the multi-billion peso makeover seeks to transform NAIA into a regional hub that will compete with Singapore’s Changi Airport and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport" could be achieved without extensive airside developments..... :scratchchin:

Perhaps "OPS" is the way by which the Government may return the "favor" mentioned below?..... :eyebrow: .....

I'm quite impress with what Zodiac Inflight Innovations did with The IFE of the A350 which allows passengers to pair there PED (either Tablet or Smartphone), to the IFE which allows passenger to control through it. I'm still wondering why PAL even bother to added remote control if the Pax can just used there own devices?

I think i'll get depressed if they'll announce joining skyteam.i still bellieve they'll join one world, because i already flew 4 times with qatar.and 2 with cathay, but then i was not yet a member (qatar).im pushing pal for the one world.nothing else!i'm not interested for other european airlines in star alliance,(swiss,i don't care,no ife in any intereurope flights, same to 4 star:) Lufthansa), not losing a word on Austrian.i have to.it was bad!you need all to know that european flights don't mostly have seatback ife.and Lufthansa is 5* haha.the mother of swiss.their long haul routes are exquisite btw,but not shorthaul:) some star alliance members are great, skyteam with aeroflot, delayed air france, and overproud garuda indonesia with those ifes ...bye bye.no thank you

I was impressed with the IFE systems on PAL's A350.  Not a single 5-star carrier (i think) doesn't even have those features! :bouncy:
I was shocked when he removed the screen. Maybe they could upgrade the screens when needed? or does it need to be in the same resolution?
And the device paring is a better alternative vs. an exquisite remote that could get broken. With these improvements, I think PAL will get to the top 30-40 next year. And their 5-star ambition is starting to become a reality.

-----
SleeplessInZh are you okay with PAL joining Star Alliance? With the direction PAL is going (changing to Altea, and the investor rumored to be ANA), it looks like PAL is joining Star. Plus Cathay will probably bar PAL because PAL is competing with them on their routes (eg Philippine routes, and Seattle route, etc.)

Deliberation on DOTr's recommendation to MIAA re the grant of OPS to the Super Consortium for NAIA's modernization was supposed to take place Thursday, July 19. However, no reports on it have come out in the media. The NEDA is to render subsequent action but there's nothing to act on. How then could the airport's renovation proceed..... .....

https://www.philstar.com/business/2018/ ... udits-dotr

Quote:
"Not on the COA list, but still waiting for DOTr action is the rehabilitation of the NAIA, also a NEDA-approved project left over from the previous administration. There are now two unsolicited proposals to do the NAIA rehab waiting for DOTr to decide.

It is taking Tugade a long while to understand that two or even three airports for Mega Manila would be alright as is the case in New York, San Francisco, London among other mega metropolitan areas. We will still need NAIA for the next 15 years while a new airport complex is being built.

Now Tugade is hinting he wants government to undertake the NAIA rehabilitation, in other words, himself. Maawa naman sa madlang public. We are suffering enough for his inability to execute projects quickly."

According to Arianespace on his own aviation forum, the MIAA has approved 'in principle' the original proponent status for the NAIA Consortium, and they're just waiting for the ink to dry to make it official.

I still believe they will strech the leasing agreement with the B777 and will refurbish them.a surprise, maybe with a new business class design by 2021

Hi guys, I have been a silent reader here for some time. I must say this is one of the few best threads I am currently following. Thank you for all contributors. The Philippines is a beautiful country, I hope I can return some day.

Congratulation to Philippines Airlines in attaining A350XWB and A321neo successively. What a momentemous occasion!

If I may add, Phillipines AirAsia finally is down to last IAE-powered A320-232 RP-C8995 after her sibling RP-C8994 left few days ago for Dubai. They are being replaced with pre-loved A320-214. Hopefully they will start receiving A320neo soon.

I've heard from the other forum that the leased contract for 7777 & 7776 where recently extended so looks liked there sticking in the fleet for a while longer. As for the remaining B77W, 7775, 7774, 7773,
& 7772. Are self-owned while 7778, 7779, 7781 and
7782 are on long-term leased so there no going any where as far as I'm concerned.

Speaking of B777-300ER This CAPA analysis I read about TG considering to introduced premium economy class to there fleet, also detalis about other airlines in South East Asia that offeres PE including PAL. It stayted that PAL has so far at least for now there no plans to refit the B77W with PE class.

Why am I thinking that 'unforeseen operational constraints' translates as 'we are shunting all these transfers between T1/T3 and T2, but we don't have the vehicular capacity to do it, and we don't have the road capacity if we did.'

Has anyone heard about intentions for Cebu-Brisbane. Saw an article today and wondering if it is legit and a possibility?

It appears 5J has actually put its long-haul, low-cost aspirations on the back burner for now. :|

Meanwhile.....PR's next A321N, RP-C9933 is pictured here at XFW..... .....

Speaking of A321 PAL will start using there 321neo to Port Morseby this august 9th, the frequency will be reduced to 3 times weekly then increased to 4 times weekly by 4th September

Meanwhile 5J is bringing its A321ceo to SGN this month. Will operate flight 753/754 service which is three times weekly.

Word on the street (TBC) is that MSN 228 (PR#2) was contractually delivered on Monday (7/30). #6 in July. #46 in 2018. Will fly home in early August.

So, final delivery "in country" must be imminent...have a little patience as no exact delivery date was given.

In the meantime, enjoy this photo in the database of msn 236, PR's third A359 on its first flight (to be RP-C3504)..... :airplane: .....

Asiana Airlines fell few notches down, but is still a 5 star airline?if speaking to skytrax, why don't they downgrade airlines from 5 stars to 4 stars?!malaysian airlines is still not rated,it is now 3 years!i think they are 4 stars?!often, i don't really understand these ratings by skytrax. For example: delta airlines is rated high in the world airlines awards, but delta airlines is not rated 4 stars. So???
we never know,if its all about money..?

I had a talk today with my boss (gategourmet/hna) and he told me that he flew pal several times zrh-mnl back the days when pal had many flights to zrh.he said pal was better than singapore airlines before and the flights with pal to asia were the best he can still remember.
He flew out of frankfurt with the B747-2 because they had a technical problem @zrh,so passengers were deported to frankfurt in a swissair flight!
He told me that pal was the best airline for him that time.
Feeling So nostalgic to hear this story!its always a delight to hear so many good things about past Philippine Airlines.

Why am I thinking that 'unforeseen operational constraints' translates as 'we are shunting all these transfers between T1/T3 and T2, but we don't have the vehicular capacity to do it, and we don't have the road capacity if we did.'

It was announced few months ago, and the September target date was a bit too soon for such a large shift at once. I don't think it solves the much bigger problem of the air traffic congestion at NAIA, though I won't be surprised if some airlines still will volunteer to move from NAIA 1 to 3.

PAL might go for SkyTeam since Business class passengers from Vancouver have access to the SkyTeam Lounge since July.

That is quite a stretch... you've put 1 and 1 together and made 100 there...

In SYD & MEL they use the SQ Kris Lounge so therefore they will join Star Alliance?
In BNE they use the QF lounge so therefore they will join OneWorld?

Interesting. Don't really see any of the current operator taking a F50 beside skyjet may be?

Since we´re talking of a single aircraft it´s unlikely to end up with one of the "big" players.
Maybe one of the local charter/contract operators needs an additionl aircraft ... ?
Or maybe it´s a small start-up for regional/domestic off-the-beaten-track services ...
After all the F50 is a solid aircraft - if a bit heavy (in terms of weight/payload balance) by todays standards.
Not sure that Skyjet would need F50 - well, except maybe for flights to USU after they found out that Bae146 is the wrong a/c for that runway ...
