I am pretty sure that ACF is an option for A321neo customers and you can still purchase an A321neo with four Type I doors activated and no overwing exits.

I am not 100% sure myself but an Airbus press release says the following:

"The A321neo ACF is an option today and will become standard for all A321neos around 2020.

The A321neo ACF is the base for a longer range variant known as the A321LR."

True it's an option

AFAIK, ACF will become standard for A321neo, LR or not, by around 2020. The current configuration will no longer be available. However, airlines do have options to activate or deactivate some of the doors depending on seat density. So, I don't think the previously suggested seat pitch limitations will be an issue.

That is correct. ACF will be the default standard in the A321neo beginning in 2020, with 2 Configurations to choose from.

And just to make sure people aren't confused...the A321neo with ACF is not necessarily the A321LR, even though the current Test Aircraft (MSN 7877) is both.

Making it a LR is easy - just install the ACTs.

I don't know for sure how Airbus manages the MTOWs for A321neo and A321neoLR. Even if it's paper MTOW change, an airline will likely still need to pay Airbus for increased MTOW, and possibly engine manufacturer for additional thrust. So, it will not be as simple as just installing the ACTs.

You can only install ACTs into an airframe that is designed for it. There is a lot of plumbing and water drains and qty probes and vent sytems and tank pressurisation system that has to be fitted before the ACT can be hooked up. This must be installed on production if you want to fit ACTs later.

I would further add the LR required structural changes for that ACT that is being used to launch more efficient production processes. Airbus must reduce the cost of each airframe. No one buys 100+ airframes at the same price as another airline buying say 30. You always find ways to put together an aircraft cheaper with time. The extreamely example is the new E2 production line. If Airbus isn't competitive, Embraer will walk into the 6 across market.

According to the latest Airbus orders and deliveries spreadsheet, Airbus delivered fewer A320 family aircraft during the first four months of 2018 than during the same period last year. Most probably there are built aircraft that have not been delivered.

I would like to know how many A320 and A320neo airframes are ready, but cannot be delivered for any reason. Where are they stored?

Does anyone have pictures of the stored aircraft? Thank you.

One hundred seems to be huge. I am pretty sure there is not enough room in Toulouse or in Hamburg for 100 parked aircraft. Maybe the number is lower than 100 because between January 2017 and April 2017 Airbus delivered 143 A320 family and between January 2018 and April 2018 131 have been delivered. The difference is only 12 aircraft.

Those huge CFM engines do make A320neo looks like A319! Seems like Royal Brunei is recycling their registrations, pretty common practice actually. V8-RBA used to their first B757-2M6, delivered back in 1986.

Many frames have flown, but there are no engines to deliver them. I assume flown to Francazal and than engines removed and used on other frames or to be refurbished.

I was serious. Francazal is only 20 minute drive from Blagnac. I was puzzled by the comment about A320neo in Francazal. If the issue is engine availability then the aircraft would have not been able to fly.

The explanation given by mjoelnir in comment #286 is very clear. The aircraft flew out to Francazal from Blagnac then the engines are dismounted and sent back to Blagnac for other aircraft.
In the future, they will probably send new engines directly to Francazal and the stored aircraft will be flown out from there for delivery directly or with a stop in Blagnac.

It is a little bit tedious, but there's nothing wrong with it.

That's a very good example of the differences between the A321 models now available, soon to be the only option available. EasyJet is the airline with the most in production so far although I don't think they have finished build at the FAL yet.

Thanks to all.
I think there is no point of continuing the discussion on stored A320neo.

A recent Flightglobal article quotes an Airbus executive, "Wilhelm says he is “pretty sure” that more than 60 aircraft are parked and awaiting engines and he sees that number “increasing a bit, all in all, in the second quarter”."

I guess it means the number is currently between 60 to 80. It is not a disaster if the number does not grow further. This said, it is about two point five billion dollars of inventory.

Why not?its a part of a320/321neo delivery thread.stored A320...okay.its A320 in the end that belongs here

Because I am satisfied by the responses and I have the information I wanted. Otherwise I do not have any objection if you guys want to continue discussing about it.

Thank you.

Wow, impressive. Making a big story more visual. This must be costing a lot of companies a lot a money. Everyone expected the PW1100 powered A321NEO's to impact the market this year everywhere based on their superior specifications. Now they are standing in the sun with all their great brand liveries. If they are targeted for replacing existing aircraft, probably airlines will try keep those flying for a little longer, charging Airbus the missed cost / maintenance / capacity benefits.

For Airbus they can try pass on all compensations to PW. But at the same time they are dependent on them and good partnership and working relations are vital. The PW1100 GTF specifications are a big part of the NEO program success over the last 8 years. You can't hurt a crucial supplier too much... Same difficult situation Boeing had with their supply chain a decade ago.
