According to the latest Airbus orders and deliveries spreadsheet, Airbus delivered fewer A320 family aircraft during the first four months of 2018 than during the same period last year. Most probably there are built aircraft that have not been delivered.

I would like to know how many A320 and A320neo airframes are ready, but cannot be delivered for any reason. Where are they stored?

Does anyone have pictures of the stored aircraft? Thank you.

Here are a few more recent photos (March 2018) of Frames stored at Hamburg (XFW) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/digro/alb ... 8945711190

Wow, impressive. Making a big story more visual. This must be costing a lot of companies a lot a money. Everyone expected the PW1100 powered A321NEO's to impact the market this year everywhere based on their superior specifications. Now they are standing in the sun with all their great brand liveries. If they are targeted for replacing existing aircraft, probably airlines will try keep those flying for a little longer, charging Airbus the missed cost / maintenance / capacity benefits.

For Airbus they can try pass on all compensations to PW. But at the same time they are dependent on them and good partnership and working relations are vital. The PW1100 GTF specifications are a big part of the NEO program success over the last 8 years. You can't hurt a crucial supplier too much... Same difficult situation Boeing had with their supply chain a decade ago.

Although PW engine issue is the biggest factor why the planes are stored, there are other ones (such as the Certification of the NEO models in China).

What certification issues are there in China? It seems PW powered NEO's have been in operation in China for 18 months now.

Yes, but China has been extremely slow with full Certification. Here is an article about it: http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/12/news/co ... index.html

It wasn't until March 2018 when French President Macron visited China to push things forward until the NEO got fully certified by the CAAC (Chinas Aviation Regulatory Body).

I do not expect Airbus needing to do the tests with the GTF. The increase to 242 MTOW on the A330 was tested only on the GE engines and later supplied at least with the T700 too.

Iirc, they have reverted back to the older hub seal design until they can properly fix and test the new hub seal design.

Just to expand, most of the modifications worked. Many little fixes have been implimented that improve the engine reliability and durability. New seals and a more durable combustor are still required. But the day to day dispatch reliability is very much improved. Those are longer lead items, mostly due to costly testing.

Pratt isn't out if the woods, but they can see sunlight finally.

They use their first on STN-EWR and STN-BOS. They don't need an LR for that

If you are asking whether the above aircraft is an LR, I would have to say no, as certification for the LR may not have been signed off yet!

I do not expect Airbus needing to do the tests with the GTF. The increase to 242 MTOW on the A330 was tested only on the GE engines and later supplied at least with the T700 too.

Field performance with each engine is quite different. Pratt must prove 35k opperating. Sadly, a good chunk of the delta cert must be repeated. It is possible the new seal is required for 35k operations.

The A330 242 with Trents was flight tested in customer configuration. Perhaps with some seats removed for water kegs. Meh... Since the amount of testing required can be done in a week for the A330 (2 or 3 weeks for the pw1100G, my estimate), meh... Plus two weeks for paper approval (plenty of time to put the seats back in).

What matters is PW1100Gs are finally being delivered in quantity! : hyper:

Ghad... Pratt gave up their EIS advantage.

It seems the 2nd neo for IB (MSN8256?) also has the mask, which probably means all will have it:

The mask on the A320neo family is now a factory option by Airbus just like the A350 that any airline can select.

It hasn't started final assembly yet as far as I know. All Indigo frames I have seen are A320's so far. Do you have an MSN for It? I believe it is due this year however.

Thanks Pug! The guys I got the info had recieved the info from Indigo airlines staff which I am suspecting is probably just a random talk between them. They did not send any MSN # for it.

I will stay tuned here to await news of the Indigo A321 when it comes. Thanks.

It hasn't started final assembly yet as far as I know. All Indigo frames I have seen are A320's so far. Do you have an MSN for It? I believe it is due this year however.

Does anyone have any info on the first A321 for Indigo Airlines? Some one I know mention it was in final assembly. Is this true?
