I have not read anywhere that 717 fleet reductions are going to begin. In the widebody thread, a couple posters have commented that in addition to the 2 764s and 1 A330 going into storage for the winter for power by the hour/engine overhaul reasons, 3 717s are also going to be down for the winter. I would guess that has to do with overhaul schedules and accounting. SBD is a better place to put airplanes than ATL for the winter. I cannot confirm this, though, and so perhaps one of the knowledgeable DL posters could weigh in here.

The rumor I’ve heard is that 717’s requiring engine overhauls are being temporarily parked. This allows DL to reduce capacity for the season, then complete the overhauls before the aircraft are RTS before S19.

The first of 2 to be stored, that one is 9531 and it will be joined by 9537 (975AT) in a few weeks.

It's for engine savings, and they should RTS in the summer of '19

Does anyone know why 717 N987AT is sitting near the hangar in ATL with engines off and windows/doors all taped up? I’m showing it has not flown since September.

7006 is on ferry flights to SIN. Suspect it's going for 7HD mods. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n865da
9239 ferrying to BYH for retirement. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n939dn
9249 ferrying to BYH for retirement. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n949dn
3906 entered service on Nov 14. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N906DN

In the interest of shortening the list to a more manageable post size, I have removed the lists of completed fleets. MD lists are still included due to active retirements.

Outstanding reporting as usual. The summaries are nice especially for the completed fleets. Perhaps you can keep track of the Number of Units in the 757 fleet in each variation as well as the overall 757 fleet as you seem to do for the other fleets. I know I know I can start adding up the fleet serial numbers but when there are different number ranges it is easy to loose track!

Does anyone know why 717 N987AT is sitting near the hangar in ATL with engines off and windows/doors all taped up? I’m showing it has not flown since September.

Short term storage for the winter for engine savings.

Will any of the parked MD90s be re-activated or are they being scrapped upon withdrawal?

To my knowledge there are some that will come back eventually.

All of them are still intact, minus their engines. So far, all are slated to return.

DL has no need for them. Don't expect them to return to service.

Are they going to come-back in the sense to swap / align engines and airframes that still have time remaining before overhaul or are they going to re-activate net-additional MD-90s again?

Then why not just go ahead scrap them? Your logic is flawed. All of the 90s parked right now haven't had any parts robbed off of them except the engines and TRs.

Gonna have to ask DL. Looks like parts aren't the problem--engines are. But we can be confident that they're not coming back, except for maybe a odd frame or two. New narrowbodies are here to relieve them of their duties.

It's exciting that there are just two aircraft left without PTVs (one 73A and one 320) out of all the aircraft scheduled to be retrofitted! After those are done, will the facilities being used to do the conversions switch to focus on other projects for DL?

A lot of the 737-800 fleet, 757 fleet, and the entire 737-700 fleet are due for new cabins. The IFEs are old and worn out, the 737-700 doesn't have power. I think the next project is updating the older IFEs with those new tablets on the A220s and A330-900.

There are no more cabin updates scheduled for any of these aircraft before they exit the fleet. It is true that the IFE is old on some of the 738s and 752s, but I don't think they are scheduled for new IFE at this time.

That's why I said, "I Think". I'm almost positive the 737s will get them eventually because theyre not going anywhere anytime soon. As for the 757s however.. you're correct they're not going to invest in them due to their retirement.

When you say the 737's getting new cabins will this include the 737-700?

No 737s are getting new cabins. All that was said is some are in need of further updates, but nothing is planned.

Remember that most of the 738s are quite early builds and approaching 20 years of age. The cabins are passable, but don't look as nice as the Sky Interior 739s or the refurb 752/A320 fleets. It is not a situation that is embarrassing like the early build 752 and A320 cabins were before the refurb. I doubt the ROI for a Sky Interior-like upgrade of the 738 fleet would pencil out.

Same logic applies to the 753 and 75S, which are around the same age and have cabins closely based on that of the 737NG. Contrast them with the rest of the 752 fleet, which was originally equipped with the "classic" but now very dated 1980s-design 757 cabin.

Im not sure if they ever would do some sort of a half refurb but having the large sky style bins of the new 757-D added to the 757-S could go a long way on those cross country trips.

I also happen to really like the seats in J on the 757 having just 16 seats up in that front cabin makes it nice and spacious it also makes it feel a bit more special than the 767 J seats with 30+ seats in the single cabin.

I agree with this. Some of the 738s that have the oldest IFE and those awful hard seats are now among the least desirable airplanes in the fleet. But I just don't see the business case for a major upgrade when the focus has to be the reconfiguration of the long haul fleet. There are so many nice narrowbodies entering the fleet that a relatively small group of older 737s is not going to be a major factor. I was just on a 739 and a reconfigured A320 yesterday and despite how tight the overall configuration is, the cabins look fantastic. Very bright, very clean, huge bins, and very functional.

Have any of the MD-88s been scrapped yet or are they still sitting on the ramp in BYH or SBD. Haven’t seen any pics of them post retirement yet.

So the first bank of 737-800s from the late 90s all have new IFEs, but no Sky Interior. The younger 738s that got delivered with the old generation IFEs haven't changed. Also, GoGo has a youtube video outlining the A220`s wireless IFEs and the IFEs are displaying a 737-800 safety video. Not trying to start rumors at all and this is why I stress this only me putting things together, Delta has not said anything about IFE upgrades on the younger 737-800s. As for Sky Interior, I wouldn't bank on then getting it.

I have no inside information but I would bet against any major changes to the 73G, 738, or 753 cabins for the rest of their careers at Delta. The only things that will happen are maintenance steps like replacement carpets and seat covers.

With the 75S, the only change I'd expect would be updates to the international J product to match anything that happens with the rest of the fleet.

Really? Im assuming the 73G is the 700, if it isn't then I'm babbling about nothing. If it is, I don't see why they wouldn't the 700s are only 10 years old and have a lot of life left.

But can they do the new pivot bins on the 75S and 753 without new PSUs?

737-800s 3701-3743 got new Y seats with newer system
3744-3773 still have old Y seats
3775-3777 should have gotten new seats (ex-GOL aircraft)
3774 is the only one with no IFE at all

For the 757s I believe:
the ex-Song and 5650s NW 757s all got new Y seats.
The ones originally going to pasture (684 and under), 691 (N900PC), and the 5640s NW a/c got the older Y seats.

The next B739ER, #3908, N908DN, is currently on its delivery flight from BFI>MCI:

Yes. At this point there are far more 76Zs than 76Ls, so most 763 routes are the 76Z. The 76Ls have more premium seats, and as such are utilized on higher-premium routes. They mostly fly to LHR and FRA, with a few other destinations mixed in.

Also, does anyone know exactly how many 76Ls, 76Zs, and 76Qs there are now, and how many more are planned to be converted?

The Q(and P's, if they even still distinguish the two) are the non-ERs. Same two still left, N140LL and N1402A.
There is also a "T" listed on their website that seems identical to the L. Seatguru says the T has a crew-rest that takes up several D1 seats.

My bad, I meant 76T rather than 76Q... Does anyone know how many Qs, Ls, and Zs there are? Something like 7, 13, and 36, respectively?
