Agreed, then again the 350 is such a good looking plane it's hard to look bad!! The one I like least has to be QR.....

the china eastern livery is far worse than qatar's imo

The A359R is a normal A359 with less thrust and reduced MTOW of 250ton (so it should have less maintenance costs) but the big thing for me is that the A359R can be converted to a normal A359 with MTOW of 268ton by "paperwork".

Can be converted to a normal A359, with front end payment to RR, and higher monthly maintenance payments thereafter. Presumably an R fleet also provides RR somewhere to hang older engines with performance decay.

I think that there is more to it than just the possibility of converting back to a long haul aircraft.
The A359 is a slightly heavier plane than the B787-10, so there must be something else that pleaded in favor of it other than the reduced MTOW and a low price.

Things that come to mind:
-The XWB has a wider fuselage, enabling faster turn-around times in the same 9-abreast configuration. This is significant for a widebody on domestic/short-haul missions.
-The XWB engines are bigger engines so they can take the cycles at a lower cost. Where the smaller Trent 1000/GEnx will quickly use up the cycles on the hot section parts doing mutliple daily runs, the Trent XWB will be hauling the same 250 ton MTOW with much more ease, saving a lot of money on engine maintenance.

This should be a "Regional" with 250T MTOW, correct ?
Does anybody knows if there's some progress on selling the prototype frames ?

There is one A350-900 prototype sold MSN5.

MSN1 and 3 are not expected to be sold. MSN 1 is still doing test flights. MSN3 is judged to expensive to rework.

MSN2 and 4 are either just in storage or being converted to sales configuration.

MSN59 is still doing test flights. MSN65 and 71 are in rework to be sold.

Likely candidates for the two A350-1000 seem to be Virgin Atlantic and French Bee.

I see that qatar only have 4 900's left on order after they have converted some to 1000's. Jet there have been assigned 7 msn numbers to them labeled as 900’s. Five are already build. See msn 211,214,237,249,257,275,361 How are they going to solve this.

Perhaps the reference was more about the fact they were early-build A340-600s? I dont know the details but I heard that they were heavier aircraft and Airbus had hoped to sell many more to CX but CX were not that impressed and went for the 77W instead.

Up to now the parts have not arrived in TLS and have not been seen somewhere else. But that does not tell us a lot, as frames are not arriving at the FAL in strict MSN row.

If I recall right MSN303's first parts are in the FAL.
