787 Production/Delivery Thread - 2018

Mon Jan 01, 2018 1:53 pm

Hi Everyone

As its a new year, I thought that it would be appropriate to start a new thread.

Refer to the following link for the last thread

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=593773&p=20039277#p20039277

To start off in this thread I thought it would be an ideal time to preview what is ahead for 787 Production/Delivery in 2018

Information has been sourced from

http://www.boeing.com/

http://nyc787.blogspot.com.au/

During the course of 2018 based on a production of 12 per month we should see 144 787's produced and delivered plus the 3 787-10's which are currently being used at test frames, so a total of 147 787's are planned for delivery.

The first delivery of the 787-10 to Singapore Airlines is expected in late March, of course that is provided that the aircraft is certified in time

During the course of the year we will see 10 787-8's, 121 787-9's and and 16 787-10's delivered. From PAE we will see 80 787's produced and delivered (10 787-8's and 70 787-9's) while from CHS we will see 67 787's produced and delivered (51 787-9's and 16 787-10's)

This year we will see 8 airlines become a new operator of the 787 while another 6 airlines will take delivery of a new type of 787.

The new operators of the 787 in 2018 are

AIr Tahiti Nui (787-9)

China Eastern Airlines (787-9)
Eva Air (787-9)
Gulf Air (787-9)

Air Europa (787-9)
China Southern Airlines (787-9)
Etihad Airways (787-10)
LOT Polish Airlines (787-9)
Royal Air Maroc (787-9)

Air Canada (5 x 787-9)
Air China (2 x 787-9)
Air Europa (2 x 787-9)

LOT Polish Airlines (3 x 787-9)
Neos (2 x 787-9)
Norwegian (11 x 787-9)
Oman Air (3 x 787-9)

At the start of 2018 637 787's have been delivered. Taking into account that if all 147 787's are delivered, boeing would have delivered a total of 784 787's by the end of 2018.

Notable how few are going to US airlines. Boeing treads a parlous line with its challenges to globalization.

I think the fact that there are only 2 US airlines operating the 787 is the issue.... Especially since the UA deliveries are basically done outside of the 787-10, few more 789s left.

Considering there are only three US airlines that can effectively make use of a frame like the 787...

And two of them are 787 customers.

And those 2 787 customers collectively fly 10% of the worldwide 787 fleet

AA 34 787's (20 x 788's and 14 x 789's)
UA 33 787's (12 x 788's and 21 789's)

Awesome work! Thanks for keeping this going!

637 787s already?! Wow, a lot can happen in very little time. Still have not had my first 787 experience, though. Seems almost inevitable, though, with about 1000 being in service by 2020. Something to look forward to!

With 787-8 production declining and an unfilled orderbook of just 63 , I looked to see how many of the remaining orders were candidates for conversion or cancellation. There are 4 orders where delivery has not started which look potentially doubtful. Aeroflot ( 18 frames ), Astana (3), Biman (4) and Rep of Iraq (10). I think Biman are due to start taking theirs in 2018, what about the others ?

Aeroflot transferred their 22 787 orders to Avia Capital Services in November of 2016. ACS is a lessor and is owned by the Russian Government (as part of Rostec). While I would normally consider it a way for SU to shed the order without paying the penalties for doing so, I am going to hazard a guess the order is still "safe" for the moment with the current strong political ties between the US and Russian Executive Branches.

Thanks , that’s not how it is shown on the Boeing website. Shows as 18 orders for Aeroflot Russian Airlines.

Using this excellent source

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... FCRaT-iqgo

It looks like about 10 787-8s for delivery in 2018. Includes the last 3 for BA and the first 2 for Biman.

784 787 aircraft delivered in a span of nine years, wow! Aside from the 737/320 mega-productions, has any other single commercial jet airliner been delivered in such numbers?

Seriously, let’s say 6(+ a little) years and the answer is no. A350 may beat that.

What`s the "issue"? Delta went with the A350, I see it as a healthy representation of sales worldwide of both
Boeing & Airbus. Some will see Delta`s overlooking of the B787 as some kind of slight toward Boeing, when in
fact all they`ve done is gone with the product that suits them best. There may be more issues to come, so brace
yourself.

Notable how few are going to US airlines. Boeing treads a parlous line with its challenges to globalization.

I think the fact that there are only 2 US airlines operating the 787 is the issue.... Especially since the UA deliveries are basically done outside of the 787-10, few more 789s left.

There may be more issues to come, so brace
yourself.

What are you talking about? Think you replied to the wrong person.

I didn`t. What`s the issue you suggest with "only" two US airlines ( AA & UA ) operating B787, when both have
made huge orders for the type, but that the remaining airline ( Delta ) hasn`t? As I pointed out, it cannot be
expected, even in the USA, that Boeing can win all orders for a certain segment when there is decent competition.
You sight issue, to me at least, as some kind of rebuke that Delta purchased A350, when in fact, looking at sales
worldwide, there is a healthy cross spread of sales for both types. There is no issue.

Who the heck is talking about DL? The person I replied was talking about how there weren't many 787 deliveries to US Airlines this year. All I said was that there were only 2 US airlines operating the 787 and they already have large fleets. I don't care about Delta, you're reading too far into my reply.

I was lucky enough to fly on both the -8 and -9 last August. After many recent 767, 777 and even lone 757 and 330 TATL trips, I found the 787 to be the smoothest, most comfortable plane of the lot. The only thing that irritates me is the "Outer Limits" takeover of the windows. I like to look out the window, even at night. That's why I request a window seat. Someone mentioned that not all 787's have the dimmer-switch controlled windows? PS: the A380 is in a class of it's own, solid like a planetoid.
