Nice. They had some really good deals when they first announced the flight. I considered taking the wife on a trip to London in J, but the financials didn’t line up at the moment, and then the moment was gone.

I can't understand WN at BNA. Now they have 14 gates and ~115 flights. They can easily add 10-15,flights if not more with those added gates. The question continues to be is BNA a bona fide focus city or what?

I still think they like STL more than BNA. Shame honestly.

I would agree. I think the best BNA can expect is WN right-sizing ATL and moving more connections through Nashville. At least open up a couple of international destinations besides CUN, even if they aren't daily.

You never know, May 31 could be a big expansion with the new gates. 2-3 new destinations, adding frequency on a half dozen or so routes, you never know.

STL just has more room to expand. You can pretty much be as big as you want there because it’s built to be a 30,000,000+ pax airport. It may be slightly better positioned to be a connection point too. I think we’ll eventually overtake them though, especially if WN decides to slow down at ATL.

STL only has 7-10 daily more departures than us. Plus they have more destinations. We keep beating a dead horse in this fourm, but they could add SJC, OMA, IND, and PDX for sure. Then you could look at possibly seeing BDL, international stuff, LIT, PBI. They could do a lot more here. This concourse D expansion will let us know where Southwest stands in Nashville. We'll see what happens May 31st. I'm confused that OKC is only operating on Sundays.

I think this is a big reason. They pretty much have unlimited space to expand in STL, in their own terminal that they don't have to share (except for a few international flights). So they can pretty much dictate how the terminal is setup and run. Plus as mentioned, it is centered really well for connections. They can move connections from MDW easily. Also, they don't have the competition in STL that BNA does. So they can get a bigger slice of the pie on anything they add, as well as charge more for O&D flights.

WN could always move flow from ATL to BNA (like they are from MDW to STL) to grow it.

Add on Edit: I also don't think it has anything to do with liking one more than the other. They obviously like both of them a lot since they keep adding flights to both. They don't have that big a difference in flight count. I don't really see it as a competition between the two. They both can do well and keep growing for WN.

Keep in mind that WNs fleet size is still smaller than prior to the retirement of the Classic fleet last fall- and will remain so until the end of the year. This is why they’ve scheduled much earlier departures and much later arrivals than they have before. Come late 2018 or early 2019, I am sure a growing market with a healthy economy like BNA will see additional WN service.

Apparently they’ll be serving hot chicken on the London to Nashville flights. Looked at the seat maps for the inaugural. Full both ways.

Wasn't winter always supposed to be 4x weekly? If they do well in the summer and fall, they might keep the 5th frequency.

Yes, we've known since last fall it would go down to 4x during the winter. It is better than IND-CDG, which is going down to 3x during the winter.

Hopefully, it is successful enough that they can not only add back the 5th frequency, but up it to daily. I will be really curious to know the load factors on this flight once it starts.

I was surprised to see it launch 5x a week rather than 4x which MSY and AUS started with.

I believe AUS started 5x weekly and went to daily within two months (and then the aircraft was upgauged a year and a half later).

I am just hoping for it to become daily, but I doubt there will be enough demand for an upgauge to a 789/777.

I dunno, 789 is not that much of a leap. Now a 772 might be a little too much, unless they have less than daily service. I'd rather see a 788/789 daily rather than something bigger with less frequency..

A 789 is more premium heavy though. 8 F seats, 42 J seats and almost 30 less Y seats. Unless there is a ton of premium demand on the route, I can’t see a 789 coming. I really think the best we can hope for right now is an upgauge to daily 788.

I don’t think BNA currently has a gate capable of handling a 777. The new IAB gates will be able to, but those won’t come online for another 5 years.

Megan is visiting family out of state and wouldn't have been a part of this anyway. The current mayor, David Briley is giving the annual "State of Nashville" speech at this very moment, so he's not on the flight either.

I will be at the reception this evening (I have friends at BNA airport operations) so I look forward to seeing the 787 up close at its new destination.

Sorry, I thought you meant that Haslem was on the incoming flight. Yes, the Mayor is supposed to be on the outbound flight. My error.

An interesting quote from MNAA CEO Doug Kreulen from this Nashville Business Journal interview about the new BA flight (it's locked behind a paywall).

https://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2018/05/04/nashvilles-london-flight-takes-off-today-heres-why.html

At the end of the interview, Doug says this.

The feedback we've received, is that we look stronger now than New Orleans and Austin did when they started, so we want to keep the momentum growing. If we have the demand, they'll produce the aircraft to go daily, and at the end of our [1.2 billion expansion] we'll have a lot more gates for them.

Very interesting. I wonder if I’ll be able to have a conversation with Doug tonight.

Ask him about Iceland, concourse D, and future WN expansion if the opportunity presents itself :)

Well Nashville, it’s certainly been a blast! Thanks for looking after the first crew so well!

We will see ‘ y’all ‘ at the gate tonight! Enjoy the celebrations!

Looks like it came in over I-40 and landed 20R. Hopefully somebody got a picture from the interstate.

I wonder how long it takes for pics to make it here :-) It has to be weird going down I-40 and seeing a BA jet flying overhead.

They’ve already got a video of it landing on BNA’s Facebook page.

I know ‘UnattendedBag’ who works at BNA is working tonight. I’m sure once he gets home and gets them uploaded

Yeah, seeing videos shot from locations like that makes me want to reconsider my career choice.

I was able to talk to Doug for a few minutes. Great guy. Seems like we got a good dude running our airport. He told me he can't say much regarding BNA vision as of now, but he said PDX and an Iceland flight are most likely to come this year. He couldn't give any details.

Eh, I'm worried an Iceland flight will affect the BA service. I'd need to see it become daily first before actively seeking additional TATL service.

What about TPAC service? Did he mention anything about what the airport is pursuing in that regard?

I think if it was WOW, that BA service would be fine, I'd venture a guess that they are capturing a different set of passengers for the most part. The other day, I was pricing out BNA to LON and for the most part a connection was cheaper than the non-stop. I think the price conscious customers that would take the cheaper connection in order to save a few bucks will be what the Iceland Carriers would capture imo
