Someone posted this on another site. After a couple slow years it looks like Pittsburgh got its job creating mojo back. Very strong showing actually, compared to some other cities both large and small. All good news for continuing to build air service.

Out of curiosity, I checked SFO-PIT on UA's website. The 2x daily service appears to now extend through October, flipping between 1x A319/1x B738 and 1x A320/1x B739. Once November comes around, the route goes back to 1x daily as the redeye flight is eliminated while the new afternoon flight is being kept.

I checked PIT-IAD on United's schedules today, and saw they're introducing mainline service earlier than originally shown, as well as extending it later on in the year.

Mainline UA service to IAD will now be operating in three periods:
  • April 10th - April 21st (excl. Sunday)
  • May 7th - May 24th (excl. Sundays)
  • June 8th - October 3rd

May and Jun-Oct is showing a B739. At least on dates that I happened to select.

FWIW, the April dates that I checked via Google Flights showed a 319/320 combo. I guess UA is mixing it up a little bit.

Onejet PIT-PBI starting tomorrow.

In related news, according to Memphis International Airport's Twitter, Onejet will be making an announcement about MEM service sometime during the week starting April 9th. It's a safe bet that the PIT-MEM flights will be covered by this.

Still waiting on news about whether service to CVG and RIC will resume or go the way of BNA...

They also had announced MCI-MEM when they announced MCI-PIT. Maybe this will be the start date for that and PIT-MEM.

Anyone have any idea why Flightradar24 is showing this morning's QR8144 skipped PIT and did ATL-LUX-DOH instead?

The schedules list it as ATL-PIT-LUX but when checking the playback or flight path it completly bypassed PIT, flew over Virginia and Delaware and straight over the Atlantic.

Nice. And also this paragraph too:

Expanded service to San Francisco is part of United’s recent growth in Pittsburgh. United is also introducing mainline aircraft with more premium seating on select flights between Pittsburgh and Houston-Intercontinental, Newark and Washington-Dulles this summer.

One thing I've noticed though is that there are only two dailies to Denver now. I believe there used to be 3-4 dailies on that right? Or maybe I'm crazy.

Unfortunately, PIT-DEN has been twice daily on United for the last number of years. I wish we could see a 3 or 4 times daily frequency on UA. Southwest does operate a 1X daily year round that they bump to 2X daily in the summer months.

DEN has always been 2x daily I think. IINM I do remember one of those flights sometimes being on a 752 before the merger with CO.

Year-round SFO is huge, even the second daily flight is a nice bonus abeit on a seasonal basis.

Have to wonder if the ACAA and their leadership played a role in all of these moves UA has made recently.

UA used to add a seasonal extra departure over the holidays a few years back. They had an 8pm departure at first, then switched it to a 12:30pm flight the next two years. Don't know what they've donce since mid-2015 because the UAX contract Envoy had to work ATW and BTW was replaced by mainline. We would work the IAH, EWR, and CLE flights.

I took a UA 752 to DEN in Oct 2009. SFO was also a 752 a few summers after that.

IIRC DEN was two mainline and one regional jet for 3x daily flights before WN/F9 joined in on the mix.

Since the local tech community has been very vocal about the need for daily SFO service, I'm sure the ACAA was in the mix.

This probably explains where I got that. Been using the route for over 10 years now. Makes sense that one would drop with the increase of U+LCC

Scheduled tri-jet service will return to PIT in the form of a UPS MD-11. It will replace the current A300 and 757 operating SDF-PIT.

Their website needs a lot of help. Says it will take up to two minutes to locate flights when booking.

Also saw this’s the bottom of their booking page: “Travelers that are deaf or hearing impaired can use a relay service to contact us or email us at info@publiccharters.com. An Administrative Fee of $15.00 per booking will be charged for this service.” Is that even legal?

Are you referring to 5X1151 (PIT-SDF) and 5X1152 (SDF-PIT)? And when does that changeover take place? Because 5X has been running A306 on that route over the past couple of weeks.

Also, didn't FedEx run MD-10/MD-11 to PIT? I'm certain I saw an MD-11 parked at PIT in the past, or at least during the past year.

If memory serves, I recall reading that FedEx will retire all MD-10 series aircraft and older MD-11s, replaced with 767 and 777 aircraft. Older A300s to be retired, also.

That seems a little ridiculous. It might technically be legal, but that, at the bare minimum, violates the spirit of ADA, in my personal opinion.

Meanwhile ... $400 + taxes for a PIT-AVP round-trip? Ouch...

Yeah that route won't last a month if that's the norm. I'm flying to LAX on WN at the end of April and it wasn't more than $300.

Glad to see the tri-holer back at PIT on a regular basis.

PIT-SDF has had a 763 swapped in at various points this year, most recently as 3 weeks ago.

FedEx rarely brings the MD-10/11 into PIT. The last time I saw one here was when the Pirates sponsored charter flights down to SJU for hurricane relief this past fall.

Yes, those are the flight numbers. FX never operated MD-10/11 to PIT on a scheduled basis.

Yet it is WN that is cutting back on PIT-LAX, not surprising considering that ridiculously low fare. If Regional Sky can get two people to pay that fare on a Navajo the flight will print money. I don't think it will be a problem with the oil and gas industry.

1 flight from SDF. PHL remains a 757.

Looks like wind at PIT is creating diversions. AA2196 diverted to CMH.

AA is reducing PHL-PIT from 7x/daily to 6x/daily over the final four months of 2018. Is there an upgauge to mainline to account for additional seats on the route or is this another AA cut?

Still showing a mix of E175s/E190s/A319s. I really wouldn't put too much into it at this point since the schedules and equipment on AA's site that far out usually aren't finalized.

I should have stated this in my previous comment, but the above was posted in Enrilla's weekly OAG recap post.

I saw today that the airport was using 28R and 32 for arrivals this afternoon while 28L was being used for departures. This is because there's taxiway construction being done on Bravo 1 and it's safer to have 28R take arrivals rather than departures.

I noticed that 28C was used absolutely zero times today as I imagine 28C departures would've conflicted with 32 arrivals since most of them would exit onto Quebec and then Echo, whereas departures on the southern end of the field would always take Echo directly to 28C. Meanwhile departures today would taxi Foxtrot->Papa->28L, out of the way for 32 arrivals going to the terminal.

With this whole controversey over closing 28L lately I'd though I should toss in my observation. ;)

I departed (as a passenger) from 28L/P today as well. No conflicts with intersecting operations on 32 or on the taxiways. Everything seemed to move as smooth as ever. What a concept ;-).
