priority pass just makes sense to me

I'd hope for an Admiral's Club... but AA seems to have dug its heels in, in terms of making no exception to whatever premium ratio is required for them to add one to a market.

Sorta sucks that our largest international carrier (BA) has nowhere to place its premium pax.

I guess a Priority Pass, if they build one, will help with that.

they can always just give comp passes to those passengers to the priority pass lounge

Looks like NK extending their schedule to the beginning of April. I'm sure things are still being loaded, but doing a spot check at the beginning of March shows DTW, BWI, and MCO going 2 daily and ACY comes back 3 weekly. I don't see CMH so far, but assuming everything else stays similar that would put them at 18-19 departures in the spring. Seems like we could expect to see some new routes as frequency grows.

Curious to see how many gates NK ends up taking in the new terminal. Right now they have three, and there are several times during the day when all three are in use at the same time. 4 wouldn’t surprise me.

Hopefully they can put some international gates to use in the mornings and afternoons. Many other mid-sized airports are getting international routes on F9 and they don't have nearly as much feed as NK would have. At least PUJ, MBJ, and SAP

Also F9 extended their schedule into February. Both DEN and PHL go daily, MCO 5 weekly, SAT 3 and AUS 2.

Is RDU still 2X weekly? That flight is full, constantly.

Almost forgot about RDU...Seems to be. Such an odd situation with 3 carriers doing a total of 5-6 flights a week, but no one wants to try a daily service.

Thanks. Interesting to add now that AS is adding a second daily to SEA. They must be pleased with the performance of SEA and SFO flights (assuming SFO isn't being dropped). I also suspect this is partially to try to prevent DL from launching their own daily flight.

The SFO flight has done really well this year, so I don't see AS dropping the route. Agreed that AS is trying to counter any moves by DL to add a daily flight to SEA by going 2x daily. The seasonal weekend only service that DL flew over the Spring did better than expected.

Do we know yield-wise how SFO has done? Clearly from the LF numbers just posted it is doing well (about 85% every month recently).

AS to SFO has been averaging about 85% lately - the numbers since the beginning of the year are a bit wonky due to the transition from Virgin to Alaska. In fact they've been doing better than UA to SFO and the MSY route has been one of the best performing of the mid-sized markets they added (IND for example is being cut).

With such high loadfactors, it's odd to see the legacies trimming capacity in so many markets. And passenger growth is outpacing seat growth, which suggests to me that more flights should be on the way, but fairly quiet so far. Will be interesting to see how the final North Terminal gate allotment shakes out and how that may affect schedules.

I'm not sure what is up with AA, DL, and UA. NK and F9 are probably taking some of the lower yielding traffic, but at the same time WN has managed to grow capacity and pax traffic.

quick question about the new airport and international connecting traffic.. does anyone know if someone who is routed through New Orleans but final destination isn't New Orleans how their luggage will be handled in the customs area.. will there be the ability to drop the baggage off or will they have to recheck it upstairs? i know they will be sent through to the main TSA lines on second floor which isn't a big deal but i sure hope there is a way to have the luggage rechecked in customs. Just seems important to me if the airport hopes to appeal to international connecting traffic at some point

Past the exit from the Customs area, there is a re-check room where you can take your bags to be rechecked for your connecting flight.

Wow! Thanks for sharing these pics. Project looks to be moving along nicely from the last set of pictures posted.

Also, in the first exterior shot of Concourse C, I see a row of windows at ground level between C4 and C6. I don't see similar windows on the opposite side of C in another picture. I am going to assume this is the space the United Club will be located in.

June stats posted by the airport today. Monthly traffic is up 5.4% to 1,112,905, and year to date traffic is up 11.3% to 6,652,586. Overall, the airport was ranked 37th busiest in the nation through the first half of the year between SJC and OAK. Also, Condor was indeed moving cargo this year.

yes cargo is a nice added bonus for making a flight economical.. i hope we can get some logistics stuff on the south side of the airport.. wish eventually the airport would buy up all the land between airline and the river

Also with Deltas growth and the need I think to continue competing with AMerican and British Airways.. whats likelihood they add an international flight (not counting cancun)... if so is it more likely we see an AMsterdam/Paris flight or a code share with Aeromexico to Mexico City?

I think a codeshare with AM to MEX is more likely at this point. In fact, that was a route specifically mentioned in the joint venture presentation when they went to get approval from the feds.

Delta really needs to add daily Seattle flights also. Alaska is getting the jump on that route by going to 2x daily.

MEX needs to happen for them. CDG may be a longer term add, we'll see. I think that CVG and RDU would be the next best routes to build up the network. With SEA and BOS they need to decide if losing money fighting AS and B6 is worth the potential loyalty gains. I think DL realizes that although they have great hubs, people get tired of connecting constantly.

I think a codeshare with AM to MEX is more likely at this point. In fact, that was a route specifically mentioned in the joint venture presentation when they went to get approval from the feds.

Delta really needs to add daily Seattle flights also. Alaska is getting the jump on that route by going to 2x daily.

Thanks for sharing. Looks pretty amazing, can't wait to experience it in person next year!

Anyone know if we will be able to access the international concourse/gates on the departure level if only traveling on a domestic flight...aka...explore all three concourses before boarding a plane?

Yes, all three concourses will be open. There’s one consolidated checkpoint and after that you’re free to explore A, B, and C.

It will all be connected past security. The A concourse will have 3 international and 3 domestic gates along with concessions and a to be determined independent lounge.

3 int'l, 2 domestic... the later able to easily be physically transitioned into int'l-capable should demand warrant.

The new concourses really look a lot like C/D of the South Terminal.

The RFP for the common use lounge at the airport is now out for bid... seems like a well done rfp that should result in a nice common use lounge for the airport ... the lounge is supposed to be about 4200 soft total ... same size as deltas sky club lounge .. united lounge will be about 6000 sqft

Can you share any details about the RFP? I'd be interested to see what the requirements are.

Nice, no Admirals Club (which seems like a mistake on AAs part), but apparently, we will get a Priority Pass lounge.

Going from one lounge in the current terminal to potentially three. Not bad.

It’s interesting (maybe just to me) that the United Club will be larger than the Sky Club.

Really impressed at the size of the UA lounge. I was also not expecting that.

also United will be in the actual terminal while the common use lounge and delta will be on floor above that

Some interesting tidbits from reading the rfp:

1 . they want an operator to make a minimum capital investment in the space of at least 1 million $... the winning bidder will also be required to invest a minimum of 25 percent of initial capital investment in 2024 for a complete rehab of the space
2. they must be open from 4 am -9 pm or 2 hours before first scheduled departure and when last plane departure begins boarding... whichever is longer (this includes delays.. they cant close until last plane departs)
3. the facility must have items for purchase and included food and beverage as well
4. people must be allowed to bring into the club outside food and beverage items as well
5. they would really like a facility that offers video conferencing, faxing, printing scanning as well as showers
6. pricing must be within 10 percent of the cost of similar items at local shopping malls
7. different types of food satisfying different types of dietary needs (vegetarian, kosher, halal etc) should be offered
8. there should be a silent/quiet room .. whatever that is
9. the winning bidder is required to pay for and install their own elevator and stariwell

10. heres the layout of it:

Odd to see that the RFP is still including those outdated and severely underestimated traffic projects as well as diagrams with the old gate assignments from when there were only going to be 2 concourses.

Also makes you wonder if UA plans some kind of expansion in connection with the new lounge. At the current rate, they might even drop to 5th largest carrier at MSY in the near future.

i guess they just copied the original rfp for the original concessions and just added the rendering for where this lounge is... they encourage the rfp responders to do their own research anyways so no reason for the airport to spend the money to do new market analysis when its for just a common use lounge... just my two cents .. think the rfo offers enough information for the common use rfp

you would think that is likely because otherwise seems very odd to do that

Unfortunately, AA really sticks to its guns:
they've got to see both aggregate and per-capita minima in terms of AAdvantage elites and in paid premium seats, or they don't grant the club.

Apparently, even with BA there, it's still not enough at MSY. :(

Quick comparison of club sizes puts the UA club at MSY at about 1000 square feet larger than the the ATL club. The DL club will be about double the size of the current one, and around the same size as the club at DEN and SAN (about 400 square feet smaller). Check out these links to get a good view of what both clubs may look like. The DEN club is even on the second level.

In case anyone's wondering what the current DL club is like, here's a pic I took back in the day (circa May 2010)

This image shows about 1/3 the size of the total lounge.
