This is great news if this will materialize!

Yes, it will most certainly come true just like the examples of Lucky Air and Beijing Capital Airlines have shown! And you could probably add Tibet Airlines to that list as well.

The route makes zero sense in the current situation and especially with AY already on the route. It would not surprise me if that was simply an error in translation.

Haha, very funny. I think China Southern is more likely than those other Chinese carriers as CZ would probably get the permission to operate to Finland easier than Lucky Air, Beijing Capital Airlines or Tibet Airlines as CZ already flies to Europe and is much bigger airline with probably better ties with CAAC. I wouldn't say "the route makes zero sense" either if you look at what CZ is doing at CAN, not to mention that Guangzhou metropolitan area is one of the largest in Asia by population. As Finland is getting more and more popular, especially among the Chinese, I believe China Southern will come to HEL sooner or later, given also their huge growth plan.

It’s not about permission or no permission. Both Lucky Air and Beijing Capital Airlines were given the green light from the CAAC but still nothing came out of those routes. The point-to-point market is simply too limited for two carriers and with no feed for CZ as long as they don’t join Oneworld it’s just more empty talk yet again.

Finnair continued to grow in September. Unfortunately, cancellations due to the storms and typhoons in Asia affected the passenger numbers (except for NGO that saw 14 weekly flights instead of 7 flights for a week).

Finnair Traffic Performance in September 2018

In September, Finnair carried 1,159,400 passengers, 7.8% more than in the corresponding period of 2017. The number of passengers grew in Asian traffic 5.5%, in European traffic 10.0% and in domestic 3.1%, while it decreased in North American traffic by -1.0%.

Finnair's overall capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) increased in September by 13.2% year-on-year. Finnair's traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPKs) grew by 7.2%. The high ASK growth rate was reflected in the Passenger Load Factor (PLF), which decreased year-on-year by -4.6% points to 80.8%.

It now looks like this wetlease will last all the way until the end of March 2019 with Wideroe operating "some flights" to TXL and VIE.

I guess it hasn't been mentioned here yet that one A330 (OH-LTS) from AY has been stuck at ORD for the last two weeks due to some kind of damage to the rear of the plane (probably from a high loader?). As a result AY has been cancelling flights every day this month. Must be quite some damage for the repair work to take this long, AY is being very tight-lipped.

They did consider PE, instead of a new travel class their widebodies now have around 40 Economy Comfort seats each. That means a Y seat with 3-5 inches extra legroom, noise cancelling head phones, a modest amenity kit, free WiFi for one hour, priority boarding and exit. Otherwise an ordinary Y class service, including Y meals and drinks.

It was actually pretty good ! Even thought the seats were not fully flat bed, it didn't bother me at all. Slept like a baby through most of the flight.

There is Wi-Fi, but it was pretty expensive. Not standard AY offering but Air Italy:s own terms. Soft product was standard AY, the Italian crew was still learning the AY service concept (this being their second flight).

It's a bit weird actually that UME didn't have a single links to Germany, considering how many Germans are here in Umeå. I'm an international student at the university and 80% of the people I've met were Germans. Also, connecting via ARN is super expensive and for my last trip to London, LHR-ARN-UME almost cost twice than LHR-ARN! Even DY charge more than SK for my travel date.

I ended up staying in my friend's place in Uppsala for 3 days waiting for SJ's high-speed sista minuten (did I spell it right? lol) ticket. If you have a choice of A320 with a £3 coffee vs a A359 with a free coffee it is not really surprising...

AY and BA have joint venture anyway. And BA and AY have flown the route wingtip to wingtip. So there is really no reason to choose BA over AY on the route.

It looks like BA will drop HEL from 2x daily to just 1x daily in S19. Really quite unfortunate and not least for connections, but at least AY in the same alliance salvages a bit.

Hopefully, AY or D8 will increase flights to fill the gap. It's useless to think that a new airline would step in...

Dropping 1 daily flight will cause a gap? I doubt that Norwegian will rush to add another LGW rotation, and I doubt AY has a slot for another LHR rotation.

AY does an additional flight on Sundays, departing HEL at 1125am. (Do they still do that?) Could they have any chance to get slots at least for two or three more days a week for this flight?

Qatar Airways seems to deploy a wide-body aircraft also to the 2nd flight to HEL (QR308)!

- As of 10 Dec 2018, A350-900 will be flying to HEL (in addition to A330)
- eff 14 Jan 2019, QR will be flying to HEL 2x daily with Airbus A330 (2nd daily flight with A330-200)

No changes to S19 schedule yet, but I expect to see 2x daily wide-body operations also during the summer season.
