Alaska Fleet Repaint Thread

Sat Dec 30, 2017 9:46 pm

N923VA is believed to be the last Airbus delivery in VX colors. New A321neo deliveries are getting a special livery, while rebranding of the current A320 fleet has commenced.

N848VA, an Airbus A320, is currently in Greensboro, NC where it’ll be fitted with the Alaska livery. Also, the carrier’s next three Airbus A321neo deliveries will feature special paint schemes.

N925VA left the factory in Hamburg with a plain white coat of paint. After arriving in Miami for post-delivery configuration on Dec. 2, the aircraft was fitted with decals titled “Most West Coast.” The airline wants to pay tribute to its growing West Coast presence, an internal memo read.
N924VA, also an A321neo, is expected to wear the SF Giants livery. Sources also expect that N926VA will likely wear the “More to Love” special livery, which can also be seen on an Alaska Airlines 737-900ER registered as N493AS.

One of the aforementioned sources expects N923VA, an A321neo, to be the last delivery in the Virgin America paint scheme.

I wonder how long it will take AS to paint all of the Airbus airplanes. In the meantime, will all of the unpainted VX airplane remain in VX colors? If so, will they paint over "Virgin" and add an AS bumper sticker?

exactly. same people in every thread. Who cares. As if Alaska would be the first airline to have Boeing and Airbus in their fleet. And before anyone says, "Alaska touts itself as all Boeing". Things change. Move on.

It is just funny because Alaska has never been all Boeing. And now they certainly aren't even with whatever backwards logic they can come up with.

When they sell tickets on e175s or Q400s or Saab 340s as Alaska airlines flights. They are putting that product out as Alaska airlines. Alaska Airlines is more than just 737s to the only thing that matters. The flying public.

Crazy that nearly two years ago it was very hard to imagine seeing the A320 at AS. I cannot wait to see that A320 in AS colors!

That A321neo in the More to Love livery should be a stunner too!

Your right they are Saab 2000s now. PenAir is a CPA partner with AS all the same as OO or QX. They operate the ANC/DUT route as a full CPA.

Also, FlightAware shows N848VA being at GSO since 11/28, just over a month.

I know it usually takes 12-20 days to paint a narrowbody so 4 weeks seems a bit longer than usual.

So I wonder if the aircraft is complete but AS is holding it until a specific date (SOC?) or some other reason... given what we've seen with them waiting to apply AS titles to 924 and 925.

Alaska has a lot of its maintenance and interior work done in GSO, and it hasn't been uncommon for aircraft to be there for over a month. So it is likely that the aircraft is in maintenance or if they have started cabin reconfigurations already, that could be going on as well.

I believe that you are incorrect. When you buy a ticket on a Horizon Air Q400 painted in the Alaska livery, it says, "Operated by Horizon Air". Same for SkyWest. All three have their own operating certificate. Therefore, Alaska; prior to the merger, was all Boeing. What he public thinks makes no difference.

But they haven't always been All Boeing. AS used to operate a sizeable fleet of MD-80s within the decade.

Those are operated by different carriers with different certificates. They may choose to market themselves as "Alaska," as part of an agreement, but legally and operationally, they are not Alaska Airlines.

32andBelow wrote:

LOL, where on earth did you get that woefully inaccurate factoid from.

No authority gives a damn what "the flying public" believes, when it comes to the concept of airline identity.
If you don't believe it, then review the crash of Colgan 3407... and look at how quickly/successfully CO was to distance itself from that incident.

True, that has never been in question. The "Proudly all Boeing" wasn't put on the planes until the MD's we're gone.

As a generality per Anet, anytime Airbus cracks an all Boeing (though a sliver of its existence) airline its enlightenment and progressive. All Boeing fleet is regressive and boring. Note, this does not apply to airlines with Airbus fleets. Just keep that simple thought in mind and Anet threads will make more sense to you.

There's a very good explanation for this: No airline with an all Airbus fleet has bought any Boeing aircraft, while the opposite is true.

QR was all Airbus before the 777-300ER/777-200LR and subsequent 787/777 orders.

Gulf Air is all Airbus, with inbound 787 orders.

Royal Jordanian was all Airbus prior to the 787's, excluding RJ's.

In a more extreme example, Air Jamaica was all airbus, and is now all Boeing.

Why? Do you fly Alaska?

I do and I really look forward to the Airbus product at AS. I find them personally much nicer and a little bit more comfortable than the 737. A few inches of cabin diameter isn’t much but in today’s flying world of cramped seating I will accept every extra inch I can get.

My only qualm with Airbus is that damn barking dog system in the wingbox area of the plane. Haven’t flown the NEO yet has that been fixed to a quieter system?

This merger is a cluster you know what, I refuse to fly on AS until this mess is sorted out, which could be years. They don't know what they're doing up in Seattle.

Yes, excited thought to see an A320 in AS colors.

the AS product is in a bit of a limbo right now as AS figures out exactly what it wants to be, and what it should look like. We've had a lot of things chipped away from VX that should probably live on in the NEW Alaska, but I doubt it. And those travelers who are loyal to the VX brand are feelin pretty bad right now because their numbers aren't big enough to cause an impact at AAG to keep the VX product, or even parts of it.

I've been an MVP or higher with Alaska since 2009 and have seen them morph into the transition we have today and its OK. Its not great like it used to be, but its still a step above other domestic operators. I hope next year we start to see that 'great' come back.

I don't understand why rebranding takes so long after current airline mergers. In the past, the new airline's name went on the planes as soon as the company had SOC. There were a lot of AirCal planes flying in AirCal colors but with the "American" name on the fuselage and tail. The same is true with Republic planes after the merger with Northwest.
