TU-154 commercial service discussion thread

Thu Dec 28, 2017 7:41 am

Is there any airline left flying the TU-154? I've heard there are still a few of these birds flying.

According to Wiki the only civil operator is Air Koryo with 2 in their fleet. There may be an Air Kyrgyzstan one floating around somewhere. All other operators are military.

Nope. Air Koryo only flies it charter on some domestic flights, while Air Kyrgyzstan flies only B737, if they are still flying...

The only scheduled 154 operator in the world is Alrosa, with 2 that connect Siberia and Moscow each week, aswell as occasional charters to the beach resorts in the South West. I flew it last year from Moscow to Krasnodar for 45 Euros

opticalilyushin, your post gave occasion to read the wiki on Krasnodar and also read the story of Alrosa flight 514, a tu-154 that landed safely without electrical. Alrosa is clearly skillful with the airplane.

It looks like they have 3 Irkut MC-21-300's on order (per Wikipedia). Perhaps those are replacements for the TU154?

It is unknown precisely, but on web-site there is no longer information available on fleet page concerning TU-154. It is the fact

https://www.alrosa.aero/informaciya_dly ... ot-alrosa/

In news feed of Airline last time TU-154 was mentioned on 24.07.2017 with announcement of Retro-Flights on TU-154 until 20 of August.

https://www.alrosa.aero/news/retro-pole ... om-tu-154/

BUT! On Youtube You can find videos of Alrosa flights performed after 20 of August.

Flight report with Alrosa Aircompany onboard legendary Tupolev Tu-154M Izhma operating flight 6R 534 from Moscow Domodedovo airport to Sochu Adler airport on 09 December 2017.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2m6w7ynVEM

This is quite confusing. Seems to be Alrosa still use Tu-154, but on special demand or etc I cannot explain.

Do You have information regarding TU-154 usage by Alrosa in current state? I shared my findings here

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1382251&p=20055899#p20055899

Tu-154 was removed from web-site, Retro-Flights were performed in August, but aircraft was detected in December.

Are there any retirement plan?

I think previous last operator was Belavia until retirement on 29.12.2016.

Are you able to book these online? I've wanted to book a flight on the TU-154 but do not know where to book or see a schedule

Yes it can be booked online but it depends on how much you wish to pay for the experience. It flies between Moscow and Polyarnyj, but that tends to be very expensive, and PYJ is in the middle of nowhere. In the summer time it often operates holiday charters during its downtime in Moscow, but I recommend you book them 1-2 weeks before departure, just in case they change it to a 737.

book it as long as it is still possible!!! alrosa is a great airline and rather open to visitors flying for the fun of it. i flew with them maybe 2 years or so ago, and some crew said that 2017 was it for the tu3 and tu5. currently they still seem to operate, maybe due to cheap fuel, who knows.

if somebody needs help booking, pm me!

here are some videos of my flights with then, aboard AN-38, TU-134B-3 and TU-154M:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDrvQhs5v50
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xYxJ_ZSxAY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkExVUJ0ciI

according to their schedule, they seem to operate MJZ - OVB and sometimes PYJ. transfer flights on TU3 and TU5 are bookable one way, for about EUR 200. for a stay in PYJ, please also pm me, i know somebody there that offers flats for rent. it really is in the middle of nowhere!!! if somebody wants to go to far east, try and catch some AN4/6 as well as their TU3.

during winter they never fly them a lot. currently their winter schedule shows even more TU5 ops than last year or the year before - this winter it seems to be OVB MJZ PYJ ops. same for their sole TU3 "693", there are even some flghts bookable as transit TU3/TU5. they still seem to operate "757" and "684", but mostly don't fly as much as their 738s.

You might be interested to know that I've found a few city pairs from the Alrosa web page, you can look it up if you put in only (booking.alrosa.aero) in the search field, the webpage is only in Russian however.

But 2 to 3 days a week its showing DME-PYJ starting May 2nd, MJZ-OVB begins Feb 2nd until March 23rd, and PYJ-OVB begins May 3rd.

Keep in mind that these flights are only 1 or 2 times a week these are just the dates I can find that they start and end, for DME-PYJ and PYJ-OVB the flights very well could continue as the website only lists 3 months in advance so as far as it goes at the moment is June 6th for DME-PYJ and PYJ-OVB goes until June 7th.

It remains to be seen if these flights will actually use the TU-154 as the website says but I will try and check the dates and times with Flight Radar 24 and check the reg of the aircraft if it actually is used

Hope this helps

Not sure if it is the exact aircraft I saw on FR24 as I think Alrosa may be flying 2 TU-154, but one that seems to be flying for sure is RA-85684

Didn't expect they would have been gone already. Time flies. Loved the spacey cabin & howling engines.

Not many many passenger trijets left.

Newbie avgeek here. Just found this thread while researching opportunities to fly vintage airliners. Planning to travel to Russia in mid-May to catch a few rare birds, if possible. So far have found the Izhavia Yak-42 services but was really hoping to fly on one or both of the Tupolevs mentioned in this thread. Having a real hard time navigating the Alrosa website so was wondering if someone could suggest a friendlier booking engine? Any additional suggestions for flights would be greatly appreciated too! Will be in Russia May 13 to 18.

Ty134a, I'd PM you if I could but just registered so that feature ain't active yet. Thanks!

I'm flying in 90 mins Alrosa Tu154, route DME-OVB. It is about once every 2 weeks or so. Price was close to 100U$S one way. Just get on an aviation enthusiast group on facebook, and you'll get notifications whenever someone knows something...
I read it and bought it on spot. I left work at 17:30, took bus, metro and bus to Domodedovo (about 1h), now having "dinner" (KFC from where I am writing), and leave at 21.00. Land in OVB at 03:50 and fly back (Pobeda via SVX) at 10:00, landing in VKO at 11:30, just on time for entering work at 12:00.
I'll check what to do in OVB, a city I love but I have no time this week... Mostly I'll stay in the airport. So, TU5, seat 19E is for dinner tonight!

PD: Alrosa ALSO flies the Tu134, but is pretty hard to get it. I found a way (some Wednesdays) to fly YKS-MJZ-IKT logging both, TU134 and TU154, but it was too expensive. Getting to YKS is already too expensive... It was about 800U$S for all the flights: VKO-YKS (R3), YKS-MJZ-IKT (6R) and IKT-SVO (SU)

RA-85757, for flight 6R 530 was a memorable one. The pilot made a mention is one of the last flights operated by the airline in that kind of plane, so enjoy and take as many pictures as we want, so we can tell our children how it was. It was a nice remark.
It was surprisingly uncomfortable, and the pitch was worse than modern airliners. Maybe it was just my row (19, just before the emergency exit). Food was great, so was crew. Flight was about 35% full, with over half of then continuing to Polyarny. We had all to disembark in OVB, for the aircraft to be refueled. I made something I haven't seen in other reports, to record the sound of the taxing, of the engines, and of the take off.
A nice adventure!
Cheers @OVB

Sounds like an awesome trip Eielef! Really hoping to replicate your experience, haha. Is there any website for booking tickets besides Alrosa's own portal, which seems to be Russian-only?

The lengths we go to log these...it's like real-life Pokemon.

I remember flying a Tarom Tu154 when I was a kid. My mom and I were visiting my grandma/oma near Frankfurt. It was a cool and wet summer in Germany that year. My older sister recommended to my mom that maybe we should get away from the crappy weather by visiting a Black Sea resort in Romania where she and her boyfriend had visited the previous year. The flight didn’t feel any different from what I experienced on a 727.

Derek.

Alrosa flew them until quite recently but I haven't seen any pop up for about three months. The only other "airlines" that fly them are the Slovak Government Flying Service( I have heard of someone getting on an empty leg flight with them, email them if you want) or Air Koryo in North Korea, who fly the B2 version on charters (Difficult and very expensive). All others are military planes to the best of my knowledge.

AFAIK, the two Slovak Government TU-154Ms are parked and stored at the Bratislava airport. One of them is supposed to be flown to Kosice for permanent display there. They have been replaced by one or two A319s.

Sorry, SGFS does not operate any soviet planes anymore as both TU5s were replaced by two A319s last year. The YAK40s were replaced by F100s.

SGFS is also not an airline, but rather a fleet of planes owned and operated by slovak department of interior for slovak high officials travel needs, civil defense, evac missions etc. Theres no official flight schedule or any official possibility to buy an air ticket.

One TU5 has been already flown to KSC for static display at KSC aviation museum. Idk about the status of another TU5, other than it has been deactivated. Also one Yak40 has been flown to ILZ, to be used as a static display for tech college students, the other YAK40 being deactivated and still probably sitting in BTS.

I got the info on a facebook group about that flight that day. I checked on the website of Alrosa and bought it there. It is in Russian only (so it seems), but I could have used tutu.ru which is a very friendly user search engine, also for buses and trains, that sells those tickets as well. Even smaller airlines can be find there. You can't just write: I want to go to any place with a Tu154. You need to know the route and the date.
Something that eventually helps is www.flightmapper.net I use it frequently..

OlafW thanks for the link, at least it does state that they plan on utilizing their TU-154 for the 2018/2019 winter season, but sounds like the summer of 2019 maybe the last flights for the TU-154 if the SSJ100 comes in by that time like they are anticipating.

It is. I was in the DPRK last September. It flew Orang-Pyongyang the same day I flew aboard a An-24! See these bird roaring off the runway was quite a sight!

Last I can see of RA-85757 is a flight on Jan 5th, almost a month ago where it flew from IKT to MJZ, anyone know if it has a scheduled route still, or is it basically used only for back up and out of service? I checked the website and can't find a route for it.

Anyone with knowledge would be appreciated as I am planning a trip in May, but only if RA-85757 is still flying.

Thanks

SGFS is also not an airline, but rather a fleet of planes owned and operated by slovak department of interior for slovak high officials travel needs, civil defense, evac missions etc. Theres no official flight schedule or any official possibility to buy an air ticket.

Long time ago the SGFS was wet leasing one of the YAK-40's to QS. This is how I got the YAK-40 to my list - flying KSC - BTS with QS. The return flight to KSC was on the Saab.
