It's in short term storage since it's arrival in DUB, hasn't flown revenue yet, due to come online in March, winter schedule didn't require it.

I'm pretty sure that's why the 2 TS 332s are there. They're parked during the winter and brought back into service for the peak transatlantic season.

IINM, the reason for that is because the lease on those frames with AerCap is a power-by-the hour lease, and so it's cheaper to just pay the parking fees than the leasing fees in the winter.

I think the cockpit section was preserved, maybe for a simulator. Saw a pic on Whatsapp but don't know where it came from!

I wonder if that's indicative of how low value A330s with Pratt & Whitney engines are, given that the preferred choice appears to be the RR Trent and then the GE CF6-80.

Doesn't seem to be any mention of European aviation acquiring 10 etihad 340-500s & -600s. Think they also have some other -600s. That seems a lot. Wonder what they have planned for them ?

Sad to see that these birds won't be around for too long. Guess more and more will bite the dust.
On a side note, it's actually the 6th -600 to be scrapped. 2-exVirgin and 3-exHainan frames have been broken up already

How many ?

You'd think VA could make some money on a route such as:

An Australian port/AKL/LAX . NZ has a monopoly on akl/lax & operates up to 3 times a day nonstop + once a week via RAR. Isn't the va/nz alliance falling apart?

Also with the apparent glut of b773ers va should think about getting one more so they can better compete with qf from mel, syd and bne/lax.

LV-CSD (msn 123) was WFS in December, went thru a before-return-to-lessor overhaul and did a flight test last Monday (5/3). The aircraft is now at AR's hangar #5 @ EZE waiting for its flight to Tarbes–Lourdes–Pyrénées Airport in France to be stored. It was supposed to leave last Thursday (8/3) but the airline and the lessor still have a few differences to iron out.

I’d believe that when it happens. I highly doubt VA personally have any interest in AKL-LAX. NZ fly 2 daily AKL-LAX occasionally 3, and a weekly RAR-LAX.

The alliance has taken a few turns and never covered anything but the Tasman, weather it lasts remains to be seen.

It was my understanding that all IB A340-600s had been fitted with the new seating arrangements, so this is odd.
Might it be that the seating shortage situation required that the seats are used as a priority on continuing new deliveries of A330s?

AFAIK there are still a number of A346 w/o the new premium economy, as not very South American station that receives IB A346 service is getting the new PE class.

Maybe it was due for an extended maintenance overhaul, hence why first in line to get the pink slip?

Gotta give it some work since it only does JFK and ATL right now.

Now, as for the EY A332Fs, I wonder if Turkish Airlines might be interested in leasing or sub-leasing them, or even Royal Jordanian (RJ's lone active freighter is 30 years old and received new by them originally as a pax frame).

Unfortunately RJ is not in good financial position to induct new aircraft at the moment (they are planning to shed fleet under restructuring), they even rejected the ex-MH A332F last minute after all preparation was made. Plus they used PW engines for ex-pax fleet, those ex-EY is RR-powered. Only QR, TK, HX, and AV operate RR-powered A332F now. QR and TK are viable, not sure about HX and AV, seems like these two are rather perilous positions.

The A332F in Mojave which ntu by RJ will come to TK. The airline has announced it will be bought.

I hope that TK will buy the 5 A332F of EY too.

Last week I was at MZJ and saw 1164- A330-200F with its #2 engine removed and sitting near the hangers. I was wondering if anyone knows why Royal Jordanian Cargo didn't take up this aircraft. Any Info is great, thanks much! Also saw ex D-AIHM and one other LH 346. This was my first time to a boneyard and it is quite a sight.

Find it interesting that MH is going back to the A332, after disposing of its 2-strong fleet back in 2013. Those two (9H-MKX and 9H-MKW) are noe flying for AR as LV-FNI & FNJ.

Thanks Yakamoz for the information, glad that she is picked up. Was 9M-MUC the one TK leased for some time before returning to MH?

The ex-EY A332F would be good addition for current nine TK has.

Awesome list juliuswong...VS are taking a 4th ex AB A332, what are the MSN's of the remaining stored couple?

There are few sources that states MSN 968 and MSN 1112 are still in storage, not sure if they are going to Malaysia Airlines. However MH has mentioned they are taking 6 AerCap A332 this year. I have a hunch they are taking the newer birds (MSN 665, MSN 822 till MSN 1112, as listed above).

The two other birds still in storage are MSN 288 D-ABXA and MSN 322 D-ABXB, both are in Lourdes, most probably VS is taking up one of these two. All other birds have been allocated to other airlines (if MH is taking MSN 968 and MSN 1112).

Yes, it was wet-leased by TK from MH.

The info I have which I posted on the Malaysian Wings forum was MH are taking MSN's 665, 822, 828, 911, 968 and 1112, this info also correlates with that on an 'insider' on the same forum.

I believe MSN 968 and 1112 are still in storage due to deliveries being staggered to MH, although as we both know things at MAB change overnight and with the A380's now remaining on property will they still take all the 6 leased A332's or say cap it at 4 and not take these 2 later build frames.

The 4th frame for VS looks to be a much older frame compared to their first 3.

Thank you for the confirmation. This would mean TK will add another engine type for their A332F fleet, currently they operate only RR-powered A330-243F. Not that it is a concern since TK operates all engine types GE, RR, and PW for their A330 fleet.

Nice to see you here, Tom. Yes, my friend working at MAS Engineering said the same for MSN 968 and 1112. Let's see how next few month pans out, with MAB you will never know what is happening daily in their office.

Yes indeed, second time is a charm I guess. Malaysia Airlines does not much choice since they need extra widebody capacity for some short and regional route where the B737-800 are too small to meet great demand. They need something fast and cheap and must be PW powered. Hence, the ex-airberlin A332 came into picture right on time after airberlin went bellied up. Those previously retired A332 are really aging (there are some of the first few manufactured), hence the retirement. The new "pre-loved" A332 will have almost similar IFE as those on their B737/A333 fleet.

Mahan Air A340-300 EP-MMT is in storage (either at THR or IKA). According to my Google translation of Persian websites it is in "eternal sleep". It was one of the ex-Olympic birds that was in storage for almost 10 years.

Looks like Virgin Australia is to get some of the EY A330s

Even if the VA/NZ JV falls apart by the end of the year, VA entering on any long-haul east of NZ is very unlikely, as VA had only started to earn money again (although small, it's a start) after a few years of straight financial losses, and the board/ceo had decided to focus most of the A330 workload more on Asian routes (in conjunction with the Hainan/VA JV) once they are able to gain more slots (Currently VA's A330s are on MEL-HKG and shortly SYD-HKG).

Even then, I would personally question the rumour of VA getting some of EY's A330s (most likely on lease like VA's existing A330 fleet if it is true).

VA makes barely any money on their existing routes, so I think something like the ones you suggest are a bit unlikely. :( VA does not have the financials to get into a scrap with NZ as well as QF.

Ouch. Etihad must be really hurting right now. I'm sure that they'll all find new operators soon enough.

Yes, they are hurting really badly from James Hogan's era. They have shed 10 A346, 5 B772LR, 5 A332F. I am not sure how they are going to stomach upcoming delivery: 10 A320neo, 26 A321neo, 40 A359, 8 B777-8, 17 B777-9, 22 B789 and 30 78J. That's 153 new aircraft.

Assuming the 36 neo replaces current ceo (32 ceo now), 22 B789 replacing A330 fleet (24 in fleet now), B777-X replaces 77W (26 in fleet now), that still gives 71 new widebody capacity. Their A330 and B77W fleet are pretty young too........
