SSJ100 with new winglets

Called "Saberlets", Sukhoi has successfully performed the first flight with these new winglets.

On the 21st of December, 2017 Sukhoi Superjet 100 performed its first flight with the installed saberlets in Zhukovsky.

The flight of the SSJ100 tail number 95032 with the installed saber-like tips took 2 hours 42 minutes. According to the flight plan the SCAC crew performed the appraisal of the aircaft stability and manageability under different flap configurations. Different modes were also performed in order to determine the level of fuel consumption at different flight stages. The flight was carried out up to 11 000 meters.

The results of research and experiments showed that the installation of the saber-like tips allows to simultaneously improve the take-off and landing performance and decrease the fuel consumption for not less than 3%.

Looking nice!

I flew the SSJ for the first time last week CPH-SVO and must say I really enjoyed the ride. Was very quiet and modern inside the cabin.

You are kidding right? What was your seat number?
I flew CityJet BRU-PRG and it was as comfortable and quiet as flying AN-2. I will avoid this plane like a plague.

I can't comment on noise or turbulence on your flight but having a seat in a brand new Interjet SSJ was quite comfy for me. Hoping to see more of them.

When you think how much it would cost an engine manufacturer to save 3% (if at all) it's amazing what little BW's can do.It seems so simple but I am sure it's not!

Not kidding at all. Flew in first row of economy, and also spent about 30 minutes in the back talking to FAs, so got to hear both parts of the plane.

Would gladly fly it over and over again, absolutely no complaints about the plane (except that SU parks the night flights on the opposite side of the airfield at SVO and that adds some time for bus transfer, which was somewhat annoying.

Agreed, for me this is the best/most comfortable jet to fly on, well maybe on par with the C Series anyway

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning, but this statement is a little difficult to understand. Do they mean airlines can expect AT LEAST 3% less fuel consumption, or MAXIMUM 3% less fuel consumption?

Either way, the winglets look great and it's nice to see the SSJ continually making steps to improve. Does anybody know how CityJet is liking theirs? And, from what I understand, Interjet had been having some issues with the plane. Were these problems the fault of Interjet themselves or is there something wrong with the plane?

There is no ambivalence in the wording. "not less than 3%"

!<3% = 3% or more.

Some other airframer needs Billiions in PR to get there. :-)

From the pictures I guess they are about 1.5m/60in long. Maybe a little more.
So wingspan should be around 31m from 27.8m

Of course matters such as onboard comfort is very subjective, but I add my name to the list of those who have had positive experiences on board the Superjet. I flew Interjet SJD-TLC and it was a really comfortable ride. Very enjoyable!!!

Interjet was starved for replacement parts, thus the grounding of some SSJs. They asked Sukhoi about manufacturing replacement parts in Mexico so they can get them quicker: https://sputniknews.com/business/201710 ... roduction/

The previous pictures make you think of a horizontal wingtip device, but there is some more angle in these than those of the B787. These are part of the commitment with Cityjet to certify the SSJ100 for operations @LCY.

I flew the SSJ also and thought it seemed very comfortable. I would never put it at anywhere near md-88 or 717 noise levels in the back. It has felt smooth, solid, and quiet a very nice ride. I would love to ride it again . interjet crews seemed to really like it also.

Seen from the side, the engine, wing and winglet combo look a lot like a RR powered A330.

I look forward to seeing/flying this aircraft at London City in a couple of years time.Its doing ok but deserves to do even better imho.Its a great little shorthaul 100 seater.Who knows they may do the stretch one day too.

IIRC interjet's CEO mentioned it was nagging issues with the Sam146 and a lack of spare engines rather than a problem with Sukhoi itself. As of now only 2 airframes are out of service, being XA-PBA and XA-JLG, both heavily damaged during operation.

Hang P&W GTFs under the wings and you are there. :smile: Come to think of it, the engines could be the source of the SSJ's problems. I asked before if an improved PW6000 might be a better substitute engine for it but received no answer. :?

In Russian they are called long-term: "саблевидные законцовки крыла".
"saberlets" is a commercial name, such as "winglets" or "sharklets".

Lol...they don't know what to invent anymore. First sharklets, now this... as if Boeing had registered the name "winglet", which is what they are called at every engineering school.
Anyway, good to see this going from paper to reality, I was expecting it to happen earlier in 2017 though. This is part of the LCY "package" for CityJet.
And 3% fuel consumption improvement is nothing to laugh at.
