LATAM also flies LIM-BCN nonstop with the 763ER, and that is around 200 miles longer than the GRU-LAS flight.

Neeleman expects to add a fourth city in 2015, although he is coy on where this might be. “We are going to fly to any cities where Brazilians want to go… [Brazilians] like Las Vegas, the [US] West Coast, Europe. We will start with these three cities and then make that decision at a later day.”

But both LIM and BCN are at near sea-level. LAS is at 2500 FT/ 762 M, hot and very dry. What sort of load would the afternoon departure be able to take in summer?
And is there much market for this route anyway?

Maybe in a few years when the A350-1000 comes into the fleet. GRU-SFO is just beyond the reach of an B763 even with winglets (when accounting for a diversion airfield outside of the Bay Area). Such a route would require an A350-900, but given that those planes have 348 seats in LATAM's configuration (J30Y318), is that too much of a plane to fill, even at just a 268t MTOW? The B763s are only J30Y191---much easier to fill.
That said, what one COULD do is up-gauge one frequency GRU-LIM from an A320 to a B763 and run the route GRU-LIM-SFO on the same plane.

They also are planning new international flights out of Brasilia, their second most important hub in the country. I guess that wil be limited to MIA & MCO, which were previousvly served before.

Again, if travel agencies have priority and flying via LAX is cheaper and with plenty of connections or even a pleasant car trip is available, why even consider this flight?
As always LATAM makes noise but nothing avenges... why there was no announcement that LATAM's YYZ failed, for instance?
Good luck to those unfortunate who come to get stuck in the stone age 767 that LATAM operates with the level of service they offer with the prices they ask...

This is OT, but is LATAM going to retrofit the older 763s or are they headed for retirement?

Actually JJ's last announcements shows that the 767 flying from REC / SSA / FOR will have C18Y220 layout, it means some more aircraft is about to come soon.
Also, it's been discussed elsewhere that JJ will probably operate LA's fleet without changing their rego. Nothing has been confirmed yet and I did not get the idea as the Brazilian airlines must have Brazilian registrations under ANAC's law. However, who knows ....

So that probably means that a sub fleet with a different configuration will be introduced for these operations, as all of LATAM's 767s are configured C30/Y191, across all franchises.

LA operates a few 767's C18Y220, I don't know which oh them, but I flew LA751 GRU-SCL in 2010 that had a smaller business class.
